Breaking FoTM Party - Remove it pls
Really? That sucks, I wonder if ArenaNet knows about this….
I’m afraid that this problem is just as old as the game itself.
FotM was designed specifically for players to lose their progress randomly. It’s part of what makes fractals FUN!
I’m sure this issue exists somewhere on an internal bug tracker that hasn’t been checked since Robert left.
Oh now I’m sad again :-( I miss community-involved devs Q_Q
Not until you say please.

The way it currently works in Fracts and dungs is terrible.
Fix this.
My only fear with this is that when you host an event you cant be kicked right now but if the instance stayed when the host was kicked then people would start kicking you and inviting there friends or sell the path/fractals at the end. I started hosting all the time after 2 people kicked me and everyone else in the party to sell the lvl 50 fractal when we where at the final boss. Anet would have to think carefully about how to do this maybe not being able to kick the host or something.

Always looking for fights gvg’s etc just hit me up!
maybe not being able to kick the host or something.
That’s the simple workaround I’ve been suggesting for months. At the very least, add some UI element to indicate who the instance owner is to prevent accidentally kick the owner when they sign off, etc.
Now that they seem to catching up of the backlog that built up during the LS clusterkitten maybe we’ll see this addressed? Only one thing is for sure, we won’t hear from anyone who actually knows anything about their plans on this forum.
Right now when you create a party for FoTM you have a host player that opens the fractals. The problem is that if that player leaves the party the other 4 players are kicked out of the fractals and all progres is lost. I think that this is flawed mechanics.
Today we had a random party gathered using the ingame LFG and we went trough all 3 fractals and on the bonus fractal the host left and we did not get to fight for the daily chest. So if we wanted to get the daily we had to start all over.
Remove this host player thing so if anyone leaves the party we can just invite a new player to fill in the spot and continue playing instead of starting over.
Yeah, this happened to me several times, and it’s extremely annoying :@. Can’t believe they still didn’t fix it.

Oh man. Robert Hrouda.
That guy knew what he was doing. A huge loss for anet.
Even though I get annoyed by hosts leaving, there’s not much you can do about it. If you could just have someone (or pay someone) to open up lvl 50 or whatever you want, then have them leave and take someone else without any kind of penalty, that would also be a flawed system.
The level is changed to the highest PR of anyone in the party upon rolling a new fractal. Even if you had them open and roll swamp, then leave, once you rolled the second map it would reset to the level of the higher PR in the group. If you had them stay with you for each time you roll then it’s essentially like having them in the group regardless so that would be the same as it is now anyway.
Why you would even want someone to open up level 50 for you anyway is beyond me. The only reason I can think of is you’re with a group of friends who all don’t have PR 50.
Personally doesn’t seem like there are many problems with having no instance owner to me. Even if it created some minor problems it’s probably worth it.
It’s a technological issue. It’s just the way the game is made.
It would require too much resource to rework that system, it’s very low on their list of priorities.
Its a flaw in the way instances are handled. There is most likely an “owner” of any instance (including map areas – though their owner is probably “System”). When the owner leaves the instance, the instance is destroyed and the players ejected. If there was no owner, all instances would remain open indefinitely. It is a natural clean-up device that makes sure there are never too many instances open at the same time.
Say the party owned the instance instead of the opener. It would depend on how parties are implemented in the game to determine if that would work. Are un-partied players really a party of one? What if you join someone else’s party – do you then lose your instance since you are no longer in your party of one?

ofc. You’re posting in the dungeon forum! :-/
This is likely the issue, and they really should just bite the bullet and refactor their ownership system to not be strongly tied to a single player. It’s been well over a year now.
Something like putting instances that have had all players leave the area/dungeon into an inactive queue. If the instance remains inactive for 5 minutes, remove it. In this way, the instance wouldn’t be owned by a player, but rather some watchdog that monitors instance activity.
Let’s just hope they learned something about going kittens-deep investing developer resources into LS horsepurr and continue putting some time into, yanno, maintaining the rest of the game…
…Working as intended.
