Budget raid setup
That doesn’t even account for Sinister trinkets (best in slot condition damage) which are all almost completely achievement bound or via bandit crests from farming 2-3 hours of SW. Again, not that big a deal.
Actually no. Sinister trinkets aren’t the best for condition damage. Vipers are. It is just that the only place to get Viper’s Trinkets is in raids.
Just going to reply to this since, once again, you are wrong.
Since Viper’s expertise caps condition duration at 100%, using viper’s trinkets are a waste. So no, viper’s is not best in slot. Sinister is. Just so people who actually came to this thread for information do not get missinformed.

No offense but I think that Blood Red Arachnid is having some real severe health issues if not having some sort of autism. We are having a player with similar habits in the german forum. One discussion was going over 2 thread sites and stopped first after he admitted of being autistic.
Usually BRA has some valid points and is constructive in disscussions. Not sure what his deal is today.
Seems he is bored and feels like trolling a perfectly fine thread. I don’t really care for that any more though. Anyone interested in the video/reddit thread is able to get them from my OP.
Wait a second… people actually thought ascended gear was required?
I’m not moaning about you bringing up weapons. I’m questioning how you added weapons in to strength a weak point. Yes, ascended weapons are expensive IF you build them (no where near as armor) and are literally the ONLY expensive item you currently need for a decent setup. That’s not even considering alternative methods of getting them which will occur over time if you play the appropriate parts of the game.
I don’t even think ascended weapons are that expensive to craft.
There’s, of course, a good amount of gold involved that you won’t get because you’ll be using your crafting materials for a different purpose, but the amount of gathering needed to reach 400 is actually quite low and can be achieved naturally just by exploring maps while leveling.
Going from 400 to 500 is far from expensive as long as you take your time and don’t try to rush it (for Weaponsmith and Artificer, you can easily do it for free and even get a positive revenue).
Most of the materials for the ascended weapon itself can be obtained by regular gameplay. T2-T4 wood and ore are usually the ones causing the most trouble, and are really easy to gather as long as you know what you’re doing.
Because it is so funny to answer, I’ll keep going. ^^
All it is.
Ok!
Dude, just admit that you brought it up, and you were wrong to do so. Is that really so hard?
In this case it is hard because I couldn’t find the right words for you to understand. I just wanted to say that there are players playing out there you will never believe of how bad they are performing. When I played League of Legends there was a streamer who played with his feet due to a severe disease. He was doing quite well but obviously he couldn’t make it out of higher casual tiers (Gold/Platinum) in ranked games. On the other hand there were thousands of healthy players that couldn’t reach his skill level (“Bronzies”).
Sometimes I play with a friend of my best GW2 buddy. She is not very good at the game and she is clicking everything besides 1-5 (weapon skills). All that slowly as it could be and she has to be carried in every single dungeon except CoF and some easier parts of other dungeons.
Another example, my casual guild, not the raid guild, went into spirit vale with me. We were wiping several times on the first three bosses and after over 30 minutes (no joke!) we got to VG. Our best attempt this evening brought us to 95% of his health pool. So wow, we did 5% damage in total. Important to mention: 6 out of 10 had full ascended gear, the rest mixed. Later on I jumped into Spirit Vale again with my raid guild, we killed the first 3 bosses with 7 guys and our first attempt went to phase 3.
Till today, the majority of my casual guild is not able to beat VG despite having more than just mixed exotics/ascended gear.
You have no idea what cherry picking is.
Yes, I have. You did it, I did it. It’s ok, bae.
I.E. only focusing on vale guardian when the raid has more than that.
I told you why I was focussing on VG. People aren’t complaining about Gorse or Sabe. They are doing it with VG. I could understand whining posts and complaints if they are related to them but not on VG. Behind closed doors VG is actually called “noob filter”.
Regardless, this part of the discussion is a dead end. Mostly because I don’t like watching people fail.
Hmm, I didn’t see me failing here but np. If you can sleep better with it. Think what you need to think.
The problem doesn’t go away just because you want it to.
Which problem? Acquiring asc gear? Or beating the encounter? The timer? Playing risky?
Get the skill, get your gear wether its asc or exotic and you will succeed (both was shown). No timer will stop you.
Whining or complaining won’t bring the success.
Your mechanical performance gets more room for error when you have ascended. KING didn’t disprove that at all. In fact, it is recommended for that very reason.
Yeah, ascended will give you more room for errors but exotic is still enough to have room for errors. Ascended gear will just increase this room.
I will stay on my numbers here. Almost 20% of the time left on the clock from a speedrun guild should provide enough room for any other organized peeps.
VG isn’t the raid. If an enrage timer is necessary to prevent a full tank group against only one of the bosses, then that just means that the boss isn’t super well designed, while the other ones are. Even then, I’d still see failure as something that can happen in a full tank squad.
Failure can happen, yes. But it becomes more and more unlikely if you can play as defensive as possible. There is no opponent that would directly take advantage of your defensive playstyle like in sports or anywhere else. So facetanking is quite a good strategy while your (group)heals will neglect any incoming damage immediately as long as you keep 4 people in the green circle.
The question or discussion in this thread was never if the VG is well designed or not. Compared to the content Anet has given us the last year I consider the VG not being a (total) failure.
But they haven’t been proven at all. KING just showed that if you have a really good group that the timer is extremely tight, and then recommends that you should go with Ascended to start with anyway. The ticking clock on Sabetha and Gorseval themselves are enough to make Ascended a requirement for any practical purpose.
1.5 minutes out of 8 is extremely tight? I doubt so. Same with 50 seconds out of 9 minutes on Sabe.
They have practiced in exotics for about a week as it was said in the video. It’s more than likely that there is also room for improvement in their time management. I’m sure time will tell.
You just said that the timer prevents a bunch of nomad guardians. Therefore, it is removing a passive strategy, and encouraging one that forces maximum DPS. Stay consistent now. While this means a load more for gear prefixes, ascended is just yet another outlet for increasing DPS. Much like build and rune choices.
This is why asc gear is recommended but still not necessary at all. I agree you could implement other mechanics to prevent a facetank gameplay. But I am sure it just pushes bad players into the next round and they will search for excuses and find them why the content is toxic, not casual-friendly or whatsoever.
This doesn’t make sense. I’m assuming that you mean “Exotics plus a good execution means that ascended gear isn’t necessary”.
That’s what I was trying to say.
But it doesn’t.
Yes it does!
It just means that you can barely power through in the more extreme circumstances, to which may players are not capable of doing. For any practical purpose, Ascended is a requirement. At least the weapons and trinkets are. This is encouraged by both Deroir and the developers.
Yeah, many players won’t be capable of going 1.5 minutes left over in exotics. But these 1.5 minutes are the room for errors and equal to almost 20% of the whole time which is a lot.
Nevertheless, you have the option if you don’t want to reach or struggle with the time limit you can purchase rings very easily. Think ahead, possible 1.5 minutes in exotics and now you are playing with better gear. This will lead to more and more space. In the end a full ascended group shouldn’t have any problems at all with the encounter. Reality is telling us a different story. We have speed run guilds clearing the raid in full exotics and many peeps not even killing the first encounter in full ascended!
Look, I’m not going to lie: this discussion isn’t productive. Right now, all you are doing is taking each individual quote, then posting whatever retort that comes to mind regardless if it is relevant (or even rational). When I say things, I’m not even sure you understand them.
No, I am just arguing about the different spots you opened till here. There are no short answers from your side. You could make your points way more clearly. But no, you are discussing around. Posting wiki links about psychology and so on instead of making 2-3 bright statements.
Your video itself says that you shouldn’t try what the video did, and should have ascended. It literally disproves itself. You’re whole case is “ignore what he says, thinks, and his advice based on his experiences regarding this content, and just look! He beat it!”, and you are adamant about ignoring that contradiction. You’re spending your whole time championing around a video while anyone with a sense of reason would look back and laugh at how crazy you are being.
The others already responded to this passage so I will make it short.
Deroir is far from saying “Don’t do this at home!”. It’s obvious that he is recommending the best gear available. I, myself would recommend to acquire ascended gear if possible – for every content in this game. But he and his mates have shown with this video that it’s not necessary.

I can probably do it in green gear first time if I have 9 players from King carrying me.
@OP- You really want a budget build? What if I told you that you could get FULL Viper armor and weapons without spending a single gold? All you need to do is complete the HoT PS for each toon, up until the “Bitter Harvest” quest to get a “Box of Viper Gear”. Do this nine times, and voila! You end up with 6 boxes for armor and 3 boxes for weapons! I’m currently working on my 8th character, so it’s only a matter of time before I filly kit out my Burnzerker (you still need to spend money on crafting your Sinister trinkets though).
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016

Good recommendations, but not really part of the topic.
The title was chosen on the basis of the guild KING running budget builds.
Stil, the easy/cheap availability of viper gear boxes does help gear a condition damage character.
I require ascended from pugs, i don’t require all people on ascended with guildies, 99% of people will do that.
If i am getting a pug (which i learned to always expect the worst, and i believe everybody does that) i will at least look 4 the best available gear.

I couldn’t resist.
