I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
Can I get banned for this?

At best you will get a temp ban. But anet doesnt seem to crack down on griefers much. So you will probably be fine. In future i recommend being a bit more aware of the groups you are joining. You basically just helped a griefer steal someones instance. An honest mistake but still pretty horrible for the one being griefed.
Did you not reinvite him back to the group and kick the griefer? You could of salvaged the situation if you had.
You done did it now. Ban hammer time.
I doubt you will have any action taken against your account. There was this guy who stole peoples instances for like 5 months straight and only got a 3 day temp ban after the whole thing.

The meta is changing at an alarming rate!
I still see LFG with “Badleaf’s hijacked runs, come get a path free boss 1%” every other day, so I would say you’re unlikely to even get actioned. Banned people don’t buy gems.
Well regardless what happens I think its quite silly if I would get any form of ban due to this “mistake”. How could I know if the guy was the owner or not.
But thanks for feedback, always nice to see it from different angles.

I think you should be temporarily banned for your first instance of serious griefing, yes. Even if it was a mistake on your part, that doesn’t relieve you of responsibility for your actions.
If you could claim it was a mistake and get away with it everyone would be doing that.
I doubt you will have any action taken against you though considering how rare it is for proven griefers to recieve punishment.
But when the guy whisper you, why didn’t you invite him back into the run?
So basically I came home from work and started doing my daily runs of payed dungeons for quick exp on alts. I eventually joined a run with 2 guys, where one initiated a kick on the other. I didnt think much about it and accepted the kick as Im used at people kicking those who dont pay or understand that it was a payed run. Then I realize that the guy I accepted the kick on could’ve actually been the dungeon owner, as he whispered me right after saying he recorded it all and is going to report me and my supposed “friend”, and get me banned (note that I didnt initiate the kick). I told him I didnt know much better, but it left me thinking what the policy says about this “system”? Selling dungeon paths in general must be a dodgy area, for instance I have had runs where Ive payed gold only to see it was a scam, and naturally I thought Anet couldn’t done anything about it as we put ourselves at such risk (when the system didnt intend us to use it this way).
Feel free to share thoughts about the subject and experiences. I understand there could be other threads about this, but I just wanted to voice this perticular case.
Shot answer: No, you will not get banned. There is a voting system to let players kick other players. If kicking was not intended there would be no kicking option. It also does not let 1 player alone kick others, you need more people accepting.
How could I know if the guy was the owner or not.
Why didn’t you ask this before you decided to kick him out? If you actually were remorseful, then why didn’t you reinvite him?
And selling dungeons is not “dodgy.”
Just posting to inform you all that selling dungeon runs its NOT against the rules. People are free to do so. Please, exercise extreme caution to avoid getting scammed.

The only thing “dodgy” is you claiming both innocence and ignorance for kicking someone from a party for no reason.
why didnt you reinvite him? why didnt you know who to send gold to (as in, who was leading)? why did you click yes to a kick without thinking about it? all valid questions.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
I can see that I overstepped, but at the same time my impressions from such daily runs is that people tend to buy them to save time. For instance if you dont pay up within a certain time you often end up kicked, or so I’ve seen. That makes it much “easier” in just kicking since we’re all here to get what we pay for, and since I was in a rush I followed up on someones initiate for a kick, just to get the run going. Had gold not been in the picture I would’ve given it more thought.
And to answer @Thaddeus, it wasnt till a few minutes after I had left that the suposedly orginal owner whispered me.

In theory, you should be banned. In reality, you’re 99.99% safe from any form of punishment.
