Can we have more Dungeon?
I’d personally love more dungeons. I’d have loved new dungeons in the expansion. A new dungeon in a new map would be nice.
Wouldn’t even have to be a full 3 path dungeon but it would be nice to have the “final” battle of every new living story to be a 5 man dungeon instance (with its own unique rewards like old dungeons, so people actually replay the dungeon and it doesn’t become a “do once and forget about it” kind of dungeon.
I doubt we’ll get any new dungeon though.
It’s a shame what they decided with dungeons, I really hope they come back to their mind and introduce a couple of new dungeons soon or with the new expansion. I remember when they said they planned fractals as the ‘new hard 5man content’ and since then one new fractal (a conglomerate of already existing parts of old fractal dungeons) got released. That’s just a bit embarrassing.
They even dissected the then by LS1 introduced molten and aetherblade dungeons and mad it to fractals instead of just letting them be. What in god’s name were they thinking?
‘would of been’ —> wrong
They removed the dungeon team, and instead focus all their resources on raids and fractals, with as result 1 new fractal where they promised several
I’ve been playing GW2 for years and still love running dungeons, hopefully Anet brings them back at some point.
Raids are fun to though, but sometimes just need an easy relaxing run.
If Anet ever adds anything to a dungeon, it would most likely be an extra path. Similar to the Aetherblade path they added some years back. I doubt we will see any new dungeons any time soon.
If Anet does add a new dungeon, it would need to come with a bunch of extra stuff to be on par with the rest of the dungeons. Such as new armor sets for all armor professions, all new weapon skins, another token currency, a story mode with 3-4 different paths, etc.

I think the community would be ok with new dungeons without all the extra skins that take months to develop. I can speak for myself and say i just want new dungeons, dont much care for the cosmetics.
ANet no longer has a dungeon team and has committed its resources elsewhere. We will not be getting more dungeons, and quite frankly I’m OK with that given the positive trends for Fractal and Raid development.

OK with 1 new fractal and broken raids?
Do you think Anet said ohh crap we need to change something since people are 3 man killing raid bosses?
Right like your old dungeon content is super easy because it was set up for exotic armor and 30-30-10 stats. Now we have 30-30-30 stats with ascended armor and buffed up HOT spec lines. Now people have found problems with the HOT spec lines that can exploit raids.
I mean if Anet wants to say that raids are the challenging end content fine but can they at least make it so classes/teams play the way it was suppose to be played?
I mean they have killed PvP/WvW/ and core Gw2 stuff and come to find out that there high end content for TEAM PLAY can be soloed cant be a good thing.

You forgot the fact they are going to release another raid wing in November and we will have to wait another 6 months for maybe one true new fractal because I don’t consider Chaos Isle fractal to be new, it’s recycling content in another form and to me, only Thaumanova Reactor was new 3 years ago.
They should just get back to dungeons with some raid/fractal mechanics to avoid stacking or be forced to pick an unoriginal meta build.
I’ve been farming TA and HOTW the last few days to finish off the collections for the trinkets. And yes it’s a shame they are abandoned. The issue is not just designing new dungeons but also the armour sets that would go with them and then the tokens would probably be tied into new legendaries. That’s if they followed the vanilla system of course. Either way, it’s been fun blasting through the old content with Elite specs.
But when we get one regurgitated fractal after 3 years (chaos), I’d say new dungeons are next to zero chance of happening.
A kitten ton of other MMOs, smaller than GW2 manage to release raids and dungeons. Why not GW2? Why I always hear “this needs resources”, “they have more important things to do”. Sorry, but those are bad excuses. No, they just need to release them and for the rewards: they release like new skins for the gem store every month. So, apparently they have resources to do this.
Dungeons is for a lot of people an essential part of an MMO and this game is the only one I know to be so stubborn to release any new ones.
They made several mistakes in the past: the two dungeons released during LS1 got shut down, dissected and squeezed into fractals and the only one that was in the actual dungeons was too gimmicky to be run casually (aetherpath) by replacing an existing path (two mistakes!).
After they noticed that Aetherpath is almost never run by most people they though it is wasted time/resources. But instead they just should’ve released a less gimmicky dungeon. People just want to kill bosses and run thtough it. Take Ascalonian Catacombs for example. People like is run regularly.
This shows just something that was the issue with this game since the release of 2012: they don’t know their own game. They don’t play it they don’t know why TA Forward/UP wasn’t run by many be cause the boss was broken (their explanation was simply: most people don’t run it anyway). And also they don’t had a clue about how long/hard certain paths were. Otherwise I couldn’t explain why SE2 rewarded you with 1g and SE1 1g, but faceroll AC gave you 1.5g each per path.

Dungeons were replaced With fractals, for them it is easier to implement Fractals than it is to implement dungeons, they fill the same roles Fractals just give a more diverse feel due to difficulty scaling while providing increased rewards, quit asking for content that has been abandoned for multiple years now and enjoy the Dungeon replacement know as Fractals.

If all you’re looking at is the 1 new fractal, then you’re missing a lot of the great changes they’ve made to Fractals this year.

No.

They can and do. Constantly.
I mean they have killed PvP/WvW/ and core Gw2 stuff and come to find out that there high end content for TEAM PLAY can be soloed cant be a good thing.
Neither PvP nor WvW are dead, and PvE the way it’s currently being developed is also fine.
I agree with you OP. It’d be great to see new dungeons. I stopped playing because there simply was no new content like it, and what we had was stale, old, and neglected.
Raids look fun, but it’s hardly something to do casually. Dungeons were great because you could pick up 4 random guildies and go have fun, pretty much whenever, with whoever.
Fractals are close, but when I played they were plagued by the RNG level selection. This has improved since I quit, but they still suffer from the staleness. Hopefully they’ll pick up the pace with the new fractal releases, I’d hate to see that turn into another disappointment for this crowd.
Every so often I feel like I should just log in and run some dungeons for the hell of it, but then I remember that the HoT powercreep would have killed any enjoyment I got from them.
My fondest memories of this game was running dungeon trains with guildies for hours each night, or duoing several Arah path each night with a buddy once it started getting hard to get a group together. They really were the pinnacle of small group social play in this game (IMO), and I’d love to see them return.
If they started adding new dungeons to the maps, I’d return for sure. They could reuse the art assets from the map, build off of the new boss mechanics from raids, and use their familiar dynamic event system instead of the fragile, custom scripting used by the original dungeons. Make one new armor/weapon set for the new map, and have it available from both dungeon tokens and meta event rewards. This should be more than feasible for a company the size of ArenaNet, and it would give this game a bit more life for at least this player.
BTW, @Dusk — I notice your specialist title is gone. Did they stop the program, or is there a new dungeon rep?

My solution to this is to low-man dungeons! Also, pubbing dungeons is arguably harder than ever before even with power creep as most of the other players are underleveled / undergeared / underexperienced.

They ended that iteration of the program. My understanding is that there will be more in some form and at some point, though I have no idea what form it’ll take or when it will be.
