I used Sanctuary when I did it on my guardian. Other classes probably have skills (AoE pushbacks, AoE fears, …) that, if even not powerful enough to get the job done by themselves, can be more than enough when used together by 5 people.
There’s also probably a simpler and intended way that someone after me will explain :P
This works every single time for me.
Do not aggro the group, pick up a barrel and run it to the closest Way Point. Drop the barrel there, do this till you have around 20 barrels stacked up. Then create a path from the Way point to where you pick up the barrels, they need to some what close together to ensure they AI will keep chasing them down the line. As you are creating the line of barrels you will almost reach the edge of the house that the barrels are behind when the NPCs take off. Once they do everyone walks up and drops a barrel, BOOM.
Once inside go around the corner to the right and wait for the mobs to charge in, kill them off, proceed with the dungeon.
It takes longer than some other ways I have seen done and heard of being done, but never once had a problem with this strategy and its worked since the game was released.
I’ll be honest. I just glitch and be done with it because that part isn’t fun. The uphill battle against snipers and cannons, on the other hand…
I am a mesmer so it was kind of easy to do. Drop a portal entrance at the barrels and let 3 people including yourself run with the barrels to the wall. Once you are there drop the second portal entrance. (during this time numbers 4 and 5 are distracting the bandits) They will then pick up a barrel and go through the portal. Everybody then drops their bombs at the same time, voila you have now destroyed the wall.
Zero effort required.

I’ve seen guardians do it. They coordinated their skills (I don’t know hat that particular skill is called) so that enemies couldn’t get past. I’m betting necros could stack chills. The rest I don’t know yet as I’m not yet familiar with their class mechanics.
Just have the group keep placing the barrels and keep running back to grab more then again run back and place, repeat over and over, the npcs do have a limited amount that can be out at a time so sooner or later they just cant pick them back up.
Personally, before we discovered how to fool the AI, we just had one person stand and constantly chuck out barrels to the left and right while the rest placed the barrels. The NPCs should be too busy with all the extra barrels.
Alternatively you could just have a two-three people grab a barrel and run away as far as possible, taking all the mobs with them, while the rest line the barrels up at the door.

The normal way and is always ease the 2nd time around is:
1) Everybody grab a barrel and drop them near the primary mansion building.
2) All run back and grab a barrel. Go to the circles near the gate and do not drop barrel until your avatar is in the circle.
Rangers and their Entangling Roots elite are a charm for this part =)

Very very easy (it’s my favorite path to run in CM to be honest).
4 of you grab a barrel. Get a tough person lure the enemies towards the barrels and make him spam picking the barrels up and putting them on the floor. All enemies get really concerned with that and will be busy picking the barrels up and smacking the tough guy. In the mean time you have enough time to put down your 4 barrels, to run and get the other one and plop down the 5th one (the enemies will be completely ignoring barrels all the way over there because they will be worried about that barrel spam happening with the tough guy), though beware your tough guy will die eventually, but as a strategy to win time it works.
If you have a thief just use Shadow Refugee :P
Pick up the barrels. Go a little to the west of the mob.
Have one player put his keg down to aggro the mobs while the other 4 run to place their kegs and the last team member catches up with them with a new keg. It’s that simple and for some reason players seek to complicate it.
a) 1-2 guys drop kegs near pick-up zone and kill thrash. Rest deliver kegs.
b) Drop bit more far away, etc.
c) Put keg on table.
Pick one based how legit you want to be.
have 2 people pickup and spam barrel throwing etc and the other 3 place them. gets a bit annoying for the 2 people once alot of the bandits have barrels and start chain stunning but it should be over in 1-2 mins.
