Before you say “oh, learn to play” please read my post.

Being targeted by the snipers near Myra Kindleshot is unavoidable. You’re knocked down in one hit and then swiftly defeated. I want a challenge but this is just an arbitrary kittenchallenge that burns through your wallet. I dodge, use heals and work as a team with my friends.

Please, sort it out. Add more champions, whatever you want. But this is completely unfair for a party to be decimated over and over like this.

You are talking about story mode, aren’t you? Can’t remember it, but you can use some skill to remove conditions or resist/break stuns for that fear ability.

It’s not like they spam it over and over. Just coordinate with your team and it should not be that hard. While you easily take them down one after the other. I did it first time with a normal pug completely blind. No particular problem.

I’m not saying they spam it over and over. It’s each mob using their fear once that does us in.

We call a target, bam we’re feared. We run off the fear, resume attacking. BAM. Feared again. Clearing the trash first is the only way to go before the silvers, and we got through it eventually.

I knew it seem counter intuitive, but if you pay attention to sniper’s ability it’s clearly said “More damage to moving target”. So if he target you, stop moving and stay still, using any defensive ability you get and you should survive.

Yes, you should, but you don’t. It’s completely random.

It’s not like they spam it over and over.

They do. I mentioned this on another thread; GW2 doesn’t seem to have a basic thing present in all other MMOs which is some form of chain-CC protection (i.e., once you’re knocked down / feared / etc., you get immunity from CC for the duration of your current CC plus at least half a second after that CC ends). The result is that people frequently get chain-stunned / chain-feared, etc..

Several dungeons in GW2 (especially CM, I’d say) feel like you’re just fighting against a random number generator. If the RNG is in a good mood, you take almost no damage at all. If it’s in a bad mood, you get one-shotted or stunlocked for 10 seconds.

This kind of randomness doesn’t make dungeons “challenging”, it just makes them not fun.

Don’t play CM story, thats what you do dont play it. I don’t. Its annoying in the number of ways you just get a cheap death. The over all hardness of it is not that bad….its just a lot of random getting CCed and killed or flat out burst down in a second.

Exactly. It’s a shame to see such a great setting as that manor get ruined by such boring bosses and such random mobs.

When I saw a screenshot of that big room with the fireplace and straircases for the first time I expected things like falling chandeliers, a boss running to the fireplace and throwing out embers, or climbing up the stairs and throwing down books, players hiding behind furniture, etc..

Instead we get a boss with a huge HP pool that just stands there, and a ton of mobs that will 1-shot anyone in light armour if the random number generator is feeling grumpy. What a waste.

Utility skills to do what, exactly? Break fear on my entire party? You’ll be telling me to dodge next, aleiro. Come on, seriously be constructive.

Thanks for the advice about the snipers, though. Hadn’t realised they also did more damage to moving targets like the sergeants. Problem is that once you’re down you’ve not got a chance in hell.

We finished the dungeon, but I had a 15s repair bill and got 3s and 22k xp for my trouble. Like someone in another thread said, I’m out of dungeons until this is balanced. I really like CM, but it’s just not worth it right now.

Its a sniper, what do you expect?

I certainly wouldn’t expect a sniper to do more damage to a moving target than he can do to a target standing still. Does that make sense to you? To me it feels like a jerk move by the dungeon designers to force people to read the text (making you “play the UI” instead of “playing the game”). Anyway, that’s not the issue. The issue is that, whether you’re moving or standing still, if you’re a level 40 character in level 30-40 light or medium armour, the snipers (and even the sergeants) will generally 1-shot you. Even my toughness-build elementalist in earth attunement got systematically 1-shotted by snipers and sergeants in CM story mode when he was of the “appropriate level”.

Get lucky with the RNG, you take no damage. Get unlucky, you die. It’s not “challenging”, it’s gambling (where you’re not even the one throwing the dice).

So we have dungeons where you need a specific party composition or specific classes? Isn’t that exactly what Arena Net promised (over and over, before launch) that GW2 would not be?

So, an enemy out of your range downs you with a single shot when you cross some invisible threshold. What utility skill do you use then? Five different enemies cast fear (or knockdowns, or a stuns) on you and / or on your entire party. What utility skill do you use? A stun breaker? Sure. Then they cast it again within a a fraction of a second. And then again before the previous one is even over. What now? Equip two stun breakers? Three? Four? Oh, you’ve just run out of skill slots (even assuming your class has three stun breakers).

The issue isn’t the players, and people saying “learn to play” clearly don’t do dungeons very often. The issue is the random and unbalanced design of several of the mobs (and the boring design of most bosses, but that’s a separate issue which at least Colin Johanson seems to get – although it would have been nice if he had “got” it before release).

You don’t see people complaining about Kholer’s harpoon pull, for example; people know that if they get pulled it’s because they didn’t dodge or hide fast enough. There is actually a bug near Kholer (one of the pillars lets the harpoons through), which people would have every right to complain about, but the fundamental mechanic is honest: dodge the harpoons, stay away while he spins, and you’ll generally be fine. It requires awareness, positioning and timing. It’s challenging.

CM is a crapshoot.

We killed the sniper up on the tree by me (Ele) using focus in my offhand giving my party aoe destroying projectiles and I used mist form to get up to him, used tornado and he was just bouncing and bouncing without doing anything. That bought my team enough time to deal with the rest of the mobs around and after that came to assist me with finishing the sniper.

In the “treehouse” i always pulls the other mobs behind a the second rock, where the rest of the group will be waiting, and kill them there before going to the snipers (shots dont get you there, you need to double dodge backwards btw to avoid being obliterated in the pull).

The dogs are bullkitten, even with a CCbreakers its way too much fear, we dont wipe on them, but usually one person always dies, and its not fun to just watch your character running in fear, burn target, run in fear, burn target, run in fear…

CM went from a pleasant puggable run, at a difficulty level appropriate for STORY MODE, to a nightmare that rips pugs apart if you don’t have a Guardian with both Stability Circle and Reflective Wall. Which makes sense, because it’s STORY mode, and STORY mode is designed to be a brick wall for elite players that have specific comps, coordinat… what’s that? No? Huh. Could have fooled me.

And sometimes even if you do have said Guardian, pugs still fail this STORY mode dungeon hard. To the point of ninja logging, or leaving the group (which occasionally resets the entire instance, which should be classified as griefing). Oh yeah. There’s much FUN to be had in CM Story now.

The changes made to CM story are just terrible, and the fact they haven’t been selectively reverted says volumes about ArenaNet’s intentions regarding Story mode Dungeons – nevermind Exp modes. Most blatant anti-player changes I’ve seen in any game in a very long time.

Readjust your traits, so you can ignore the fear 1 or 2×. There are many ways you can avoid the fear. Its just part of the dungeon. Dont like it, do a different path or another dungeon. Cant handle them all because of 1 part or more? Dont do Dungeons, its not your thing. If you want to dungeon, live with it or report it to Anet in the suggestion box to alter this in return for a change here or there. It might improve the dungeon as a whole.

Take healing spring on ranger, shake it off on warrior, healing rain on ele, forever bye-bye to fear.
Though I’m not sure if the ranger/ele one need to be traited or not. Point is, any class has aoe condition removal, use multiple and you’ll laugh at them..

Here’s another idea. Range them. Just kite them with some chills/cripples and their fear won’t even hit you. It’s just one pack of dogs with only two champions in it or so, you’ll be through all of them before you’re hit by one. This way sure requires less/no coordination and is very easy to execute.

DKP, let me try again since it looks you didnt get what im saying with your “Dont do dungeons”.

The dogs in CM are not hard at all, just annoyng with the chain fear even with CCbreakers. Heck, we kill them without CCbreakers in the first time with just 2 deaths on our part and the “surprise” to see the amount of fear going on for the first time.

The encounter could be improved to not go against a simple “you lose the control of your character” mechanic, fells a cheap move. But meh, as you said we live with it, and carry on, its not a OMGCANTPASS, just annoy the hell out when chainfeared in sequence.

When did they change this. Its was daftly fast and easy story mode granted, but it had no decent rewards worth farming it for or any income worth your time, so why buff it so much. went to do it with a 4man alt grp today aswell as last few times it was very easy, and my god the frustration. all the normal mobs are like elites now, and they ALL kick you back with the most vexing attack ever, made me want to punch the screen and Ive been someone sticking up for the dungeons so far, as I really like alot of the explorable, but i cant keep defending them forever, i want my mates to stay in game so i dont have to pug runs, anet pls dont drive them away with this turdness :P
