Change ooze from Aetherblade path
You just have to approach it differently, it’s very doable.
The reason people don’t do aetherpath is that it’s full of gimmicks and not everyone finds that fun, especially not repeatedly.
i can solo 1 side of ooze puzzle as engi…
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
Hes not wrong in that most people avoid the path because of the ooze and other puzzles.
My friends and me used to run it with a party of guard/ele/engie/ranger/thief. Works fine, you just need some communication and people who know how to play their class/aren’t afraid of switching up their utilities for more CC/survivability when needed.
The puzzle is doable with any amount of people, in my opinion there is no need to change it.
to get past the ooze part you need like 3 guard + 2 mesmer or get really lucky.
I can see it’s l2p issue. I duoed, trioed the puzzle numerous times, and even soloed on mesmer. I don’t think ANet should change this just because people can’t do this. Games shouldn’t be adjusted to level of the players – the players should adjust to the level of difficulty. Why people aren’t doing aether is only because the reward for completing this rather “hard” and long dungeon is almost like doing ac p1.

This.
Idk, I rather like the ooze section. In fact, it’s a mechanic that a lot of players who don’t like the “DPS Meta” should enjoy. It relies pretty heavily on controlling and guiding the oozes.
Shrug I still like it. I could do without the cutscenes in the dungeon but the puzzles are not bad.
You can pull the eles to end of the room. Just let two people enter the room, kill the oozes and guide all eles to the end. The other three people have to wait for them outside of the room to avoid getting aggro.
Now those three people can “safely” pull the respawned ooze to the end of the room. Often it won’t get attacked by the eles before it reaches the gate (depends on luck/position) – and even if the ooze gets attacked you will be close to the gate. Bring some defense (wall, blinds,…) and try to pull it quickly into the gate (pay attention to the other ooze, both should start pulling at the same time to reach the gate at nearly the same time.) You can also try to kill the eles before the oozes get too close.
There’s no need to fight in this room, no need for three guards or something like that.
(good spots for tanking: on the “left part” close to the gate on the left hand behind the burning oil up the “hill”; on the “right part” in the corner on the right hand of the gate).
You just need a bit of communication to do the ooze bit. Which is rare in dungeons, and why people avoid aether.
Kite/pull all lavas to one side/corner closer to the door, begin escort of oozes, when they get close to lavas, kill them then, oozes will make it to the gate before any lavas have a chance to respawn. What you have to communicate, is NOT to kill the lavas till oozes get close to the group (which is normally half way through)
If you’re having troubles, it means either you, the rest of your group/party or both just don’t have the skill level/patience to actually do it in one go.
I duo’d it together with a guildmate as well as I did it with three people.
If you know what to do, it is easy, so there is no reason to change it.
The only thing I’d support changing with it is making it so that everything in the room resets when no one’s in it.
Ooze is why I don’t do it. As much as I would like to see that removed, I won’t ask for it, because I understand why it’s there.
Perhaps the “problem” is that those who put in the effort, put in enough effort to have their methods perfected.. Leaving it no longer as a challenge.
So we end up with one group who don’t want to do it because of the learning curve, and another group who have left for another challenge.
Is there even a solution? Is it possible to have a loot table with no items less than green? Aetherized skins? (Shooting my own investment portfolio in the foot.. But it’s not about me.)
Since i soloed this room with my warrior (and sublimatio seems to had done it with a mesmer) no change is needed. You just need people to know what to do.
Mesmers and guards? seriously? if you need that for the ooze room i’d suggest you to re-learn your proffesions. As a warrior, one of the most useful CCs for this room is the 4 from bow that causes blindness on area, allowing me to make the attacks of 3-4 elementals don’t hit ooze, you just need timing.
I also agree with what Saint said. Those who doesn’t like the DPS meta, we really enjoy the ooze room
That said, what jockum and chochobo said is the most easier strategy, just 2 players join and move all elementals to the end, and then 2 more join the room and move oozes. You don’t need to defend, no need to fight, it’s piece of cake. Just make sure you kill elementals more or less when oozes have done half of the path or the eles will go and attack it because of proximity.
- If you got troubles finding people, just put “Aether, only patient players” in the LFG or even “Aether, join if you have good attitude” and you’ll get Aether done, all it takes is time(1-2 hours) and communication.
Allisa, the room itself is learnt in about 30 minutes if you speak with your own group of players. I really hate when nobody speaks in dungeons and i’m fighting with “that guy in there”. It’s why i don’t do CoF anymore, nobody ever says anything and they just run to end the path fast. That doesn’t feel like a dungeon, that’s a joke. I love when people have names and they share their thoughs, it creates a bound with players, and because of that Aether is a really nice place.

We trio’d this last night, and it went smoother than some of the 5-man parties I’ve done it with. It really just boils down to whether the party can coordinate. One person pulling things badly or not paying attention can make this part a nightmare.
We use the approach described above — kill oozes, then two of us (guards) pulled the eles to the back of the room, while the third (warr, but it doesn’t really matter) kited the oozes to the triggers. We killed the eles when the oozes got close.
I retraited my guard to 2/x/x/x/6, taking all of the spirit weapon duration/cd traits and master of consecrations for wall. This let me keep nearly 100% projectile defense up while entertaining the oozes, using Shield of the Avenger and Wall of Reflection. GS + sword/focus are good — use Binding Blade (GS5 to pull the eles) and focus 5 or renewed focus as blocks while the shield/wall are both on cooldown.
Hope that helps.
Now…what they really need to rework is the kitten electricity puzzle. Requiring 4 people at that point is the only thing keeping us from low-manning the entire dungeon. Lame.
