Cliffside fractal is too kitten annoying
Not impossible if you mess up.
Protip: Use line of sighting.
Pro tip, It is kittening kitten and it shouldn’t be in game!
Pro tip – condtion removal
Pro tip – guard/war with soldier runes
Pro tip – sigil of generosity

Ok, I just lol’ed there.
But cliffside’s tenuous part is the dual arm seals.
There are a few strats to run on it which work – only 3 of which I have tried, I’ll try to explain it here.
Method 1: Single Side tanking – This can be done at lower level fractals, higher level is extremely hard. Position 1 person on one of the arms to tank the cultists so they cant heal the arm seals. The main team goes back and forth charging the hammer on the opposite side so that they can run faster between the two seals. This strat breaks down if the person tanking gets too much aggro and doesn’t have enough evade / invuln / block / healing. This can be done with mesmers S/F.
Method 2: Kill only 1 target – This can be done at any level fractal, but involves more teamwork / communication. If you don’t kill both cultists on either seal cliffside will NOT spawn more cultists to overwhelm your team. Target the cultist to NOT kill and make sure to charge the hammer on the opposite side. You can use either side to charge, but once you choose do not kill the 2nd cultist on the other side.
Method 3: Quick portal – This can be done at any level fractal, but requires teamwork and a mesmer with portal. Hit the first seal after killing 1 cultist, having the mesmer lay down a portal near the seal then run to the second seal. At the second seal, kill 1 more cultist hitting the seal, drop the hammer for another player to pick up. Have that player kill the 2nd cultist, have the mesmer toss down portal exit and the player with the charged hammer goes through the portal to the first seal and hits it again, then uses the portal to come back to the second seal where they charge the hammer hit the 2nd seal. IF the team does it right the same player will be able to charge for the 3rd and final hit on the first seal before the portal wears off and the entire team should run to the first seal to swap out the hammer bearer.
All 3 above methods rely on destroying 1 side first. Once you are able to do so it is simple to drop the 2nd seal.

The only thing I don’t like about it is that it takes too long for a trivial reward.
Was it fun? Yes. But it is something I never want to do again.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
As Vox stated.
Method 2 is my preferred way since it does not require mesmer and requires less coordination than method 3.
If you have teammates that don’t even listen to “don’t kill the targetted mob” then you have more problems than that event anyway.
This is one of those many fractals that is actually easier in the 30+ range, because most players know what they’re doing by that point.
Bottom line on this one, is if you screw up on the arm seals (and don’t communicate well enough prior, saying, DO NOT KILL TARGET), you’re going to have a Bad Time. It’s doable once both sides are popped, yes, but it’s a bit of a nightmare, takes ages, and will probably see your party wipe enough to ragequit before completing this part.
Hasn’t happened to me in a while, but it sucks when it does.
Thus, it’s always good to pause before the arm seals and make sure the whole party is on the same page before rushing in. If the arm seals go well, the fractal goes well.
It’s one of those ‘either,’ ‘or’ fractals, no doubt about it.
That said, the health pool on the cultist when the level starts should definitely be nerfed – that part is easy but boring, because it takes forever.
2 things I want changed… one of which is needed, other is nice to heave.
Needed, arms should reset. Seriously, even at 40s it’s still possible to mess up and it’s a giant waste of time to do the seals once you wipe once.
Wanted, please shorten it. It’s the longest fractal, barely anyone wants to do it and I know groups that would gladly redo swamp if they get cliffside as the second fractal just because of the time commitment.
Oh please, it is not that long. Dredge fractal is much much worse. Cliffside is really not that bad. The only issue sis arm seals not resetting on wipe, but like many people said it rarely happens.
Dredge may be longer, but at least Dredge has good loot. Cliffside has abysmal loot and it takes a long time, which is what makes it so painful. Also the boss at the beginning is a major waste of time.
Hell, both of them takes upwards of 30 minutes depending on setup and player concentration at the time, but yeah, as Dusk said, Dredge at least gives me 30-40 bags. Only thing Cliffside gives me is a headache and time to get a drink when someone falls off the puzzle.

I would say dredge is worse after the stealth kit nerf.
For cliffside as long as your teammates can pay attention and not kill the targetted mob and only kill from one side to charge the hammer it’s pretty straightforward.

Yes, that’s why I said it’s a wanted thing not a needed thing. The issue is that if you wipe on the panels it doesn’t pop 3x the amount of mobs from before. Cliffside does.
I would rather wipe 5 times on dredge than having to deal with 2 sides of super veteran cultists at 40+. That and the 40 bags after helps….
Just to make you feel better i just recorded this.
No more crying on soloable paths please

Don’t wipe?
Don’t wipe?
kitten happens?
I haven’t read through all the replies, but if the initial strategy doesn’t work, either person not paying attention or just accidental, I found it best to minizerg together back and forth. Don’t let the hammer holder be the first person to enter a room or he’ll get downed very fast, and picking up the hammer under his downed body creates havoc and wipes. Goodluck
No more crying on soloable paths please
Every fractal bar a few with events that prevent it (like Swamp or Dredge) is soloable at the pathetic level 1 difficulty. Seriously, try the water fractal or the ascalon fractal; they’re even easier.
However, your argument is rife with logical fallacies; just because you can solo a fractal on the lowest possible difficulty neither means the fractal is appropriately designed or worth the time investment. What this fractal needs is loot being dropped in the events, and if Rob thinks that’s unreasonable, then a change in the events such that it is reasonable. Seriously, it’s important to justifying the time investment.

Woah there big fella, looks to me like you tried to use me as an excuse to rage about how you feel that your not getting the pixels you deserve, you know that this game isn’t real right? and that those drops you want so bad will not go towards anything you want in life? unless your sellng gold, but a job at subway pays more then you’ll ever make playing gw, unless you live in china of course.
I don’t see a problem with the drops, the problem is that the bosses have FAR to much hp in the game causing things to take to long. So what if you don’t get a rare every chest, get over it homie
But back to the point that the op was posting about, i posted the solo to show him that difficulty depends on the players and not the game. This game is extremely easy for some and really hard for others. If your in a group with a war that has 5 signets in the party interface, or you have 2 nec’s 2 rangers and a engy as a party then maybe you should back out and grab another group.
If you join a group where no one is using food, or if someone is stacking magic find then this is a good indication that you should back out. If you feel like your better than everyone else in the group then back out, also don’t be afraid to kick people if their not up to standards, thats what the kick option is for.
Arms are actually quick. The most annoying part is the initial boss fight as he has way too much hp. A tip for the arms, leave the one mob up at the initial encounter instead of on the other side, it’s faster.
