First off – the group does not have full exotics. We just recently started doing explorer modes. In fact this was our second one ever.

Did CoF Explorer Path 2 for the first time last night against the warning of multiple people standing around outside the dungeon swearing up and down it was now un-doable. We finished it in about an hour or so but did have two problems throughout the dungeon that we feel Anet might need to take a look at.

Forgive me for not knowing names of npc and mobs and such as this was our groups first time running CoF on explorer mode, however I will do my best to explain in detail.

Issue 1
The part were you have to escort the npc across the river of lava and use the fire extinguisher to put out the flames so you don’t become a bbq burger. Getting across the river to the red blob on the other side and back to the side we came from was no problem. We just spray lots of blue stuff with our extinguishers (it’s spammable) there and back and ignore the mobs till we are safe on either side then dps down whatever follows us. we moved as a group keeping the fire down and healing anyone who was getting beat on while crossing the river.

The issue arises with thekitten npc who is also trying to cross the river. If he were a real person he would have to ride the short bus to school and would probably be walking around with drool hanging out of his mouth stabbing himself in the chest. After we finally managed to get the idiot to the other and discover the blob of orange stuff on the other side we had crossed it back and forth probably 20 times and killed about 10 or 15 of those blobs that take forever to kill. The npc was constantly just standing around in fire and dying while we were all safe out of the fire due to our extinguishers. He seems to try to follow at a long distance which would be fine if there wasn’t lava and fire everywhere but since there is he dies over and over and we have to make multiple trips out to rezz him, escort him over to the other side, then the idiot runs back out to the middle, dies, has to be rezzed again then re-escorted back to the other side. this cycle happened about 20 times – him running out to the middle by himself and standing in fire until he died while were all standing on the banks thinking what an idiot he is.

That npc needs to stay closer to the group and needs to not be so dumb that he keeps running out the middle on his own while were all chilling and drinking corona’s on the other side.

Issue 2
The fight where you have to defend the npc who is building a bomb or working on a bomb or some such and the room fills up with char’s wrecking everyone’s day. After numerous death’s we found a way to get past it but it just seemed cheesy and cheatish. We had 2 people in the room and three people outside the room. The two in the room ran around whacking them and generally staying away from the ones they were whacking around with slows and snares, in the beginning, while the three on the outside stayed out until more spawned. When more spawned one of the three on the outside would pick up one or two and kite them between the room and the hallway on the outside. The mobs will only follow you a short distance outside the room so you shoot them a few times and they follow for about 10 ft then turn around and go to run back in, snare them when they turn back, whack them some more and they come after you again. the three on the outside are constantly pulling two mobs out of the room so thats 6 mobs running back and forth for three players on the outside and 4 mobs chasing our pals on the inside. Its total pandemonium but as long as everyone has thier two mobs we had no problems keeping the bomb repairer/builder alive and getting past the event.

The issue here is that the mobs spawn so fast and have so much health that we just could not dps them down fast enough. Granted most of us are in mish-mash gear as we were all just starting out in explorer’s but even if we were all pimped out in oranges I don’t see how we would have the dps to focus fire them down anyways. They need less health so they can be killed as they spawn. Unless of course this is the way the event is supposed to be done which is possible since there is no door preventing you from running out of the room?

Those are the two issues that we think need to be looked at? Some feedback from Anet would be fantastic if this is “as intended” or if it is inf act a “bug”?

PS… Everyone got 60 tokens for the dungeon so that appears to be working.

Hmm did this the first time last night around 22:00 CST and got 60 token like all my other group members. Did it just now at 11:50 am and got only 20 tokens?

Why is that? It’s like 12 hours between runs… thought the DR was supposed to be 1 hour?

EDIT: This run today took about 45 minutes to complete also. This time the dumb npc who likes to take baths in the lava just disappeared instead of taking a lava bath and we all ported back to the first way-point and ran back and he followed us across no problems.

“If you are experiencing Diminished Returns, it is due to clearing dungeons too quickly. If you feel you are unfairly being punished by our DR system, please post about it and we will review it when possible to see if the system is working as intended. The more info you give us the better.”

Previous run was 12 hours prior to this run. Why did i not get 60 tokens again and only 20? Additionally it took us about an hour to clear it the first time and then 12 hours later it took us about forty-five minutes. Same path Same dungeon, no other dungeons were ran between then and now. We did no exploits as far as i know unless pulling the chars out of the bomb room is an exploit but if it is, why did i get 60 the previous time and we did that room the exact same as this time? Is that what caused this or is it a DR bug of some sort?

An answer would be nice. Ive been pretty patient today…

“I just wanted to update everyone on where we stand with this. So far we have found a single bug with the system that is causing certain players to get stuck in a state of reduced rewards without actually exploiting. A fix for this has already been made and is being tested locally now. We are going to do more significant testing on this new version but we also believe it is more bulletproof to begin with. Please keep posting data as these cases are somewhat rare and are hard for us to find with internal testing but seem to be exposed quickly when thousands of people are playing the dungeons.

All rewards are susceptible to our code that is dealing with people who are speed clearing dungeons. This means that if you are speed clearing and then play some new chain for the first time it may not reward the full 60 tokens. If you find yourself getting less rewards consider whether or not your rate of dungeon completion is extremely high."

So if I am getting DR on the second run because we cleared it too fast then that would mean our dps is too high… were clearing it too fast and speed running it on our second run ever on explorer mode, however we still cant dps fast enough to keep the char’s in the Bomb room knocked down so …

either the DR system is crap and I’m getting ripped off on tokens or the char’s need thier health knocked down, right? Which is it?

Purina, you got 20 tokens on that run because it was your second run of the day, not your first. The day doesn’t reset until 12 AM GMT, not your personal timezone.

Game day is 12:00 AM GMT to 11:59 PM GMT. Nothing resets in between those times!

Additionally if I go back in there in a couple hours when the rest of my group gets ready and we complete path 1 are we going to get 60 or 20?

As for the other issues, lava field is still hit or miss and no one who wants to actually complete the bomb planting room actually attempts to fight them. As far as I know, no group has actually successfully fought all of the mobs through the entire 200 seconds. At some point or another you need to kite. With random groups or less skilled ones you should just kite from the beginning.

That DR is still there. But the 20 token run was not DR…

Per the latest patch notes, each dungeon run awards 20 tokens at completion, with an additional 40 if it is your first clear of the day (this day being game day and should have been made more clear by the devs.) So 60 tokens first run of the day, and 20 tokens every run after, without DR. Since that is exactly what you got, you were not hit with DR. The day has not reset yet…there is about 5 hours left to go for the game day to reset.

Game day is 12:00 AM GMT to 11:59 PM GMT. Nothing resets in between those times!

No it was a different day… I went to bed… had some fun with the misses.. slept all night… got up and ate breakfast… got online and ran it again… my calendar even showes it was a different day?

Each dungeon path awards 60 tokens for the first clear of the day. 20 are given for each run afterward. There is no difference who you run it with. The tracking is done for each person individually.

Game day is 12:00 AM GMT to 11:59 PM GMT. Nothing resets in between those times!

Sure, it was a different day for YOU! Why do people not listen to what is actually being said?

IT IS NOT A DIFFERENT DAY IN THE GAME! The game day is 12:00:00 AM GMT to 11:59:59 PM GMT. Have you ever noticed that your daily achievements don’t reset based on your own personal timezone? Your dungeon clears don’t reset either…these are all based on game time.

Game day is 12:00 AM GMT to 11:59 PM GMT. Nothing resets in between those times!

12:00 GMT for me means 6:00pm CST. And I notice this too, around 6pm in the evening, the dailies I finished start counting again.

If your in the United States / Canada, 12:00 GMT means anywhere from 4pm PST to 7pm EST (West coast to East coast), so judging where you are at, your talking a day is from late afternoon / early evening to late afternoon / early evening tomorrow.

Judging from your 1st post OP, you mention you did a dungeon late last night, had fun with the lady, went to bed, woke up, and ran a dungeon at or around 12 noon…

Using the time zone calculations above, both runs are actually in the same day. You will likely not see it reset until you run the dungeon again later tonight

Alright so I got the 20 tokens at around 11 am that I was whining about earlier, did cof path 2 again around 8ish pm (same calendar day) and got 60 so that confirms the time zone gobbeldy guk that was mentioned above. Did TA forward-forward around 1am and got another 60 tokens as well.

Definitely the time zone was what hosed me.

Same lava bather in every stinking COF path 2, bug’s out every time resulting in the group porting to the way-point and running back to get him to act right. PLEASE FIX THIS?

Still cant kill any of the char’s in the Magg bomb room and can only get past the event by kiting them out of the room and playing yo yo with their leashes. Please don’t put a door there or the dungeon will be undo-able, just reduce their health.

Did Twilight Arbor forward-forward the night before last with some guildies and one of my guildies was level 78 and it was his very first dungeon run ever. He has never stepped foot in any dungeon and upon completion of this run he got 15 tokens.

Everyone else got 60 tokens including myself. Why did he only get 15 on his first dungeon of the game?

Additionally, there seems to be an exploit with the lava river event in cof path 2. Did it with some puggers last night and immediatly after the event where you pretend its an east egg hunt with the bombs bringing them to the npc, everyone waypoints back to the start and the part were the npc has to cross the lava river does so on it’s own without anyone there. The puggers said this is how people are doing it now. Thats pretty lame and needs fixed.
