CoF Magg Setting bomb event
Not sure if thats how it is supposed to be but for right now you just gotta kite. What my guild does is send 1 person in at a time and let them kite in a circle in the room. When they’re getting ready to go down, next person enter the room and continue. We’re able to get it first try now with this trick if we are set up for it (ie speed buffs, cripple/immobilization removal. Basically warrior warhorn.)
It has been posted multiple times that it is possible to kill all the mobs in this encounter.
We tried the 1 person at a time, run back from waypoint ASAP method and we ended up dying too quickly. The firewalls they drop killed Magg most of the time too.
Maybe it’s possible if you have super exotic gear and the perfect group makeup but for us mortals killed 3 elites withing ~20 seconds isn’t a feasible option.
Idk how you can only last 20 seconds in there. I play warrior and start it. I manage to live till 40% give or take with warhorn and “shake it off”. Ill even spawn a Banner of Disipline for whoever is next so they have 33% speed. If the next people are squishy (we have 2-3 thieves) we’ll send them all in at the same time to kitten with them. 1 makes Magg invisible at the end of them before last person comes in. After that last person enters I’ve already WP back and am waiting to kite again.
We dont have a “perfect group” but all of our builds do compliment each other very well.
This is a video of us doing it and it was quite a while ago

You can do this encounter with rare/masterwork gear and almost any combination of classes. A simple search would’ve shown multiple threads on this topic, providing very detailed tips on how to completing this encounter properly.
My pug did it the other night with 3 groups (first group had one person, the others had two each). It took 2 or 3 tries with this mostly experience group. I don’t know what our secret was- speed buffs seem incredibly important in order to run back from the WP, and packing as many survival skills as you can.
PS- I don’t know why we did it this way instead of 5 groups of 1.
our guild group can kill everything that pops up.
2 in 3 out, and keep rotating in and haul kitten back when you die.
My group has had a similar profession setup (minus thief) as you stated in the OP, and we were able to kill everything. It wasn’t easy, but with a little coordination and proper tweaks, you can get far.
If your group is one where people have not learned to tweak their skills to the situation, then that is probably why you’re having problems. I feel that a lot of the difficulty of this fight has to deal with the ranged damage. The guardian’s shield of the avenger can negate a lot of projectiles for at least 20 seconds. The mesmer’s feedback can reflect more projectiles. The guardian and mesmer should be grouping the mobs together via AoE pulls (binding blade and temporal curtain, respectively). The engi, thief, and ranger should have snares/immobilizes after the pulls, and should be the main ones doing the damage to key targets (i.e. smokelords). You honestly have one of the best profession setups for this fight, but utilizing it is another thing.
In my opinion, if you’re using this event as an opportunity to kite, you’re purposely depriving yourself of pushing your limits as a group and learning to play your professions. It’s definitely not impossible, and I have to say that getting through that without kiting is a satisfying feeling. I don’t know if this will work with PuGs, but if you have an organized team, I definitely recommend mastering it.
