Hi!
I’m going to hear a character with ascended Viper and I can’t decide between these two. I’d like to know which one is better for end game content like high level fractals and raids. Also, condi engineer is more expensive due to leather so, there’s that. Which one should I gear?

That would easily be the Berserker, since it can fill both the roles of the Burnzerker, or the condi-PS. every raid party will want 2 berserkers so you basically join 20% of the raiding facility. After that, they can do fairly decent DPS as a burnzerker, so you’re flexible too. Engineer’s aren’t unwanted in raids, but I think it will be easier to pug and get into groups/raids with a berserker

Just wondering but my berserker warrior is running almost full trailblazer (ish) gear with perplexity runes. I built this as a troll set for WvW simply because it sounded fun at the time. While I don’t play a “meta” build, would this still work if I wanted to try out raiding a bit?

I honestly don’t know. But it’s quite easy to get an exotic set.
Meta would be Viper for the Burning Berserker or Berserker for the berserker Berserker (I understand that sounds weird) but you can easily get them by buying a set of exotic Bladed Armor or Leystone Armor.
Burning Berserker uses a sword/axe+warhorn and a longbow, focussing on burning of course, while berserker Berserker uses a greatsword for damage and often a hammer or longbow as offhand for the CC

I agree that the condi ps is better to gear up, as it has a more assured role in raids, OP should be aware that condi ps and burnzerker run different runes and sigils. So its not like you can have a single set of armor and weapons and fill both roles (well, unless legendary armor comes with a revamp to how legendary equipment handles upgrades).

True, however. Groups will still accept you in the dps role on a condi PS, if you just swap your traits to dps traits, even without changing sigils. I’ve done it several times and groups tend to have no issue.

There are a couple of ways to answer the OP’s question.

  • With which will fractals be easiest to PUG? With which will raids be easiest to PUG?
  • Which of the two choices will be effective in high level fractals?
  • Which of the two will be effective in raids?

The answer to the first is: warrior — it’s much easier to PUG a warrior. It’s generally accepted (for reasons both good and bad) that a poorly-played warrior can still be a benefit to completing content, while a poorly-played engineer can ruin it. The perception is (again, for reasons good and bad) that only an expert engineer is worth taking.

The answer to the other two questions depends on how good you are and/or how much you enjoy the class.

On the whole, success in both raids and fractals depends more on people understanding mechanics than on build or comp. 5 good warriors can clear fractals, but so can 5 good engineers.

tl;dr play what’s fun for you (as long as you accept that other people find it more fun to invite certain classes over others).

If your going to do this, please be upfront and tell the group your not actually running dps warrior. My group has had 2 (and only 2) supposedly dps warriors join us, only for their dps to be below our condi ps’s dps. As a result, my group developed a bad perception of dps warriors as being bad builds. Fortunately we had a good warrior join recently, but still community perceptions are quick to develop and slow to change.

There are still large DPS differences among any build played by a skilled player, an average one, and a poor one. In many cases, I doubt more than a few players are good enough to figure out whether it’s the build or the player (even using DPS meters).

That said, I strongly discourage anyone from lying about their build. If you don’t like the commander’s requirements, don’t join; if you do join, accept that they have a reason (good or bad). (If there’s time, there’s room to negotiate with a good commander anyhow.)

On one hand condi berserker is the more valuable class overall. On the other hand good (or at least adequate) Condi wars are a dime a dozen while good Condi engis are quite rare so if you can master engi you will be more valuable as an individual. On the third hand warrior is one of the god classes that has always been an optimal pick for every raid boss since raids were introduced and anet will probably never change this. While engi is a mere peasant class that is actually subject to balance changes that could potentially remove it from the meta entirely as has happened many times in the past.

Please don’t pick condi engineer as your first condi character to gear (or worse, first endgame character). The rotation is tough and the spot in raids only works for condi dps.

Go condi warrior. As cPS you have 2 slots in every raid group, as cBerserker you have 4-5 dps spots to you can fill. That and the rotation is not to hard to learn. Also works great for fractals as cPS.

No, this is assuming you spoke to the group about it. The only time i do that is when we get like 4 warriors or something like that(which is very common these days). Which i just say ill swap to dps triats, and people have no issue with it.

There is a difference between that, trying to fill in as a dps warrior, and just saying that you will change your traits for more dps because you have too many warriors. I hope that cleared things up.
