I’m confused on the new fractals info, will +5 infusions be disappearing with the advent of +1 ones and combining them? Should I be hoarding them at this point?

I barely understand the wording myself. Let’s look at the exact wording.

Agony Resist Infusions:

To assist you in your ventures into the mists, a new agony resist infusion slot has been added to all infused rings and backpacks.

  • All current infused rings and backpacks will start with a +5 agony resist infusion (this replaces the +5 agony resist that was previously on the item itself).
  • Players will be able to find +1 agony resist infusions commonly in the fractals after level 10.
  • Artificers of at least 100 skill will be able to combine two infusions of the same level with a Thermocatalytic Reagent to make an infusion of the next level. For example, you could take two +2 infusions, combine them with a Thermocatalytic Reagent, and create a +3 infusion.

So, let’s use the three items as examples:

  • Fractal Capacitor (Infused) backpack – has innate +5 agony resist and an empty infusion slot
  • Althea’s Ashes accessory – has Versatile Simple Infusion slotted with +5 agony resist
  • Ring of Red Death (Infused) ring – has innate +5 agony resist and Versatile Simple Infusion slotted with +5 agony resist

So presumably after the patch, if I have the wording correct, since all ascended items have an offensive or defensive infusion slot anyway, a second slot will be added to infused items in a similar fashion to two handed ascended weapons which have two infusion slots.

So, with the three examples above, they now become:

  • Fractal Capacitor (Infused) backpack – has unknown named infusion slotted which gives +5 agony resist and an empty infusion slot
  • Althea’s Ashes accessory – has unknown named infusion slotted with +5 agony resist
  • Ring of Red Death (Infused) ring – has unknown named infusion slotted with +5 agony resist and Versatile Simple Infusion with +5 agony resist

As +1 infusions will be dropping, I am presuming that the +5 agony resist infusions will still be on sale using relics to purchases?

Yeah that’s what I don’t understand either. The current basic +5 AR infusions are very easy to get from the relics vendor, so why implement something that few people would ever use? Unless of course, the new extra infusion slot can only be exclusively filled with the new infusion drops/combined infusions. Or of course, that the current vendored infusions would be disappearing. I’d much rather spend my relics on obsidian shards to go towards my legendary, if we could get some clarification on this that’d be awesome.

This is how they will work (I believe):

There will be 2 types of slotted infusions:

(1) An offensive/defensive/utility infusion slot which is found on all ascended items. This is the aspect remaining unchanged and is equivalent to how the current infusion slot works. This will hold the 5 AR, +5AR/5stat infusions (the ones you create in the mystic forge with claws and such (the expensive ones), or the ones you buy from the fractal vendor for 35 relics (the simple infusions)) and cap there.

(2) An agony resist infusion slot to be found on the backpiece and two rings which cannot be purchased using relics, and also not created in the mystic forge. This will take the place of the inherent +5 AR found on the infused backpiece and rings. For those people who already have an infused item, you will see a +5 agony resist infusion in this slot. This slot is upgradeable in what appears to be an unlimited manner. While I do not know if there is a cap, this second agony resist infusion slot can become, say, +10, for example. From my understanding though, it can go as high as you want it to, though seeing as how the costs start to become much greater the higher you go, that appears to be the “soft cap” so to speak.
