After trying for 10 minutes to get into CoF I have given up, frustrated with this “contested dungeon” crap.

It’s so frustrating to be denied entrance into an instance because of some stupid event chain that resets every 30 minutes. It’s just annoying and forces everyone to abuse the “guesting feature” just to get into a dungeon.

Why do we have to jump around different servers just to get into a dungeon?

It’s just BS.

What’s worse is that no one bothers to do these annoying events anymore because of this so occasionally you are left with no access to the dungeon whatsoever.

Having contested dungeons adds absolutely nothing to the game. It’s just a massive nuisance. Please get rid it asap.

Well i agree that some of those events are fun but i don’t get why they should force some people to guest or do the events when all they want to do is enter in the kitten dungeon.

Anet should raise the time it takes for the dungeon to get contested again. 30 minutes for CoF was reasonable in the past since you could have lots of people on the dungeon’s gate, so it wasn’t difficult to gather a few people to do it.

But now there is no reason to have such a short time to have it uncontested, in some times of the day you dont find any uncontested server and the escorting event takes much longer than running p1 or p2.

I was confused about this too. My first time in CoF earlier tonight, and i even wrote a post about my bad experience. Overall, this was frustrating for new players like myself. It’s just bad game design.

I dislike contested dungeons also.

For example when I run with a PUG, and we’re doing well, finished 1 or 2 paths, preparing for another one then bam, entrance is contested and members of the group fizzle out.

Or another, friends and I are preparing to go to a dungeon. Sometimes they get indecisive and then when we finally get to it, entrance gets contested. Now we’re back at deciding what to do next.

I never could solo the Infinity Coil Commander: he resets way too fast. :-/ Has anyone ever soloed him?

Because the game had an idea at first (to make the world a living thing, so events and stuff just kept happening unless players countered them).

Unfortunately, they failed and nobody care for their game. Players play 5-10% of the current game.

Zerk is the average Joe build. Don’t pat yourself in the back too hard.

Contested dungeons weren’t so bad a year ago when all the zones were filled players now it’s just an annoyance that has to be circumvented by guesting to servers that have the dungeon open, or -shudders- PUGing and letting the pug open the dungeon. I do not recommend the second one, ever.

I understand the intent with the contested dungeons and I am sure they looked great on paper. I am also sure that there were cool for the first people to do them and discover they’ve unlocked a dungeon, but I also think it is time for them to change, or just go.

It is a cool ‘idea’ that the world is dynamic and players can gain access to new parts of the map by completing dungeon events, but these events repeating over and over again not only ruins immersion, but it just becomes an annoyance.

Rarely if ever does a group actually get together and complete the events required to unlock a dungeon, they will just guest, or at least one person in the party with have it available.

I think events like this are best left for introducing new content. If you release a new dungeon or a new zone or a new jumping puzzle, have server wide event that takes an update cycle to unlock the thing and be done with it.

Good way to improve this would be to make the dungeon inlocking event a daily one. So people just do it once and it stays open for 24 hours. And all the participants get daily chest with the usual rare\green stuff.

Perhaps if the goal is to incorporate the dungeon into the storyline of the area, instead of making it contested until the event chain is completed (which everyone has already noted people just guest to get around). Instead completing the event story arc allows an NPC there to be talked to and a 30-minute boon applied for that dungeon. Boon would only be applied for people on their home server. (Similar to not being able to enter WvW while guesting)

So now you have a choice of guesting without the boon (could be game mechanics oriented or just money/drop/loot oriented), or completing the event chain to get the boon.

Well I think the simplest solution is to simply not lock the dungeons anymore.

Keep everything else, the events, the mobs etc but just not lock the dungeon.

It’s the most convenient and simplest way to fix this issue.

Guests retain guild bonuses from their home world and any influence earned will accrue to their home world’s guild.

I’m pretty sure any time I guested onto another server to enter cof it always had the dungeon start on my own server anyway. Regardless of where I would guest, when I opened it. I’m also fairly certain that influence is based on your completion of the dungeon and not necessarily where you completed it.

There’s no reason to uncontest CoF anymore. Not sure if they did anything about this, but keep trying to walk inside, dodge too, and you can get past the “barrier”

Try to apply a long lasting condition on him, that’ll keep him in combat. Did solo’s quite a lot on my ele. Just dont get knocked off the platform since that results in an instant reset

Yes please get rid of contested, i feel like I am wasting my time guesting to servers then relogging back to my server for events also checking external sites can be a little dubious and shady for in-game security.

Contested does stink. I don’t mind guesting to where it is open, but sometimes nobody has story done, so guesting is pointless. If anything were to change with dungeons, I’d like to see story mode become account bound if at all possible. People with more than 2-3 characters don’t want to do story on every one of them, because let’s face it, doing story for the actual story is only cool the first time, and you get nothing from story to make it worthwhile to repeat. I enjoyed them all the first time through, but it’s just tedious to have to do it on every character. And most players have the max limit on characters, not just 1 or 2.

Honestly, this is the most frustrating thing to me about dungeons. I run CoF frequently and need to run CoE more so I can transmute the armor. If Anet made an option to allow an underflow server for each zone (if a zone from all severs has too few people then they would all be dumped into one underflow so they could play with more people) then I might change my mind. However, as it stands the contested dungeons is more frustrating and a hassle than something fun and interesting.
