Disclaimer: This isn’t some kind of “How To” to breaking a speed record guide, its a guide to relatively smooth, quick, and easy runs for new players at higher lvl fractals.

This guide is an introduction to each fractal, and shows the most common and effective methods, so when you’re in a pug, you can at least be on the same page as everyone as the more experienced players, and decrease chances of party wiping.

This guide will probably take a little while to get completed, since I’m only going to be recording 49-50s, and I’ll have to wait till I get the right fractals needed.

Hey,

I like your editing job but there are a few things need to be fixed. Firstly, the texts are barely readable. They are too small and some coloured texts don’t show up well on screen. Also try not to include speculation (I feel this, I think that, I guess …) in your guides – it sounds very unreliable. If you are not sure about something, do some research and makes sure the information is correct. There are quite a few of flavored texts that are not related to the guides, I think those are best suited for a narrated guide than the caption format.

Thank you for your input, I’ll see what I can do to make the text easier to read, usually a black outline would be enough to separate text from the video. as far as making the text bigger, I don’t really want to have the text take up the whole screen even with how much it already does, and I don’t want to divide it enough into smaller bits and force the text to go by the screen too fast.

Yeah the speculation bit is a very valid point, I’ll remove it from further guides, and fix it from this one.

I’m personally a fan of flavored text, makes it a bit more interesting instead of just being bombarded with constant information, but I’ll try to limit it to a minimum.

Please learn how to play properly before making guides.

I apologize that I don’t play like you and do 2 min elite guild runs, but again, its not a how to speed run guide, its a fractal mechanics guide, average player isn’t going to be like you and know every single detail and know the exact timing on boss CDs. Try to get the average player to go D/D on archdiviner and see how long they stay up to actually do any dps, I have done D/D on archdiviner, and when he focuses on going after me, I can only do a couple pot shots on him before having to dodge out of his auto attacks, I actually spend more time kiting as D/D then actually doing any dps. So yeah I went P/P, I can remove defiance stacks and do good single target dmg continuously, sure its not the best, but to cover all my bases and any shortcomings its a decent middle ground.

edit: and in the guide I don’t make any comments about how to do it as a thief so its not a how to thief guide either, its all general mechanics, so how I specifically play is kind of irrelevant.

things about melee and stuff in cliffside

The further his leap travels the longer it takes him to travel the distance until he impacts. So yes, the further away you are the more time you have to dodge, think of him as an unreflectable projectile. He has air time.

GS 5 pulls not GS 4 as you mentioned at the last fight.

The red/purple colour was quite hard to see, you may want to set the text on a black background.

As amusing as some of the objectives were, you may want to have a static description during fights like the last archdiviner fight, and have the various life advice underneath it. It may be better to set those in their own category, I find them amusing but I already know the bosses mechanics, for newer players who are trying to focus on the fight, they may be confused why the objective isn’t related to the video.

In regards to melee, either buffing your move speed or debuffing the bosses will make melee much easier. You should only need to dodge his leap at the bottom, or his pull/agony at the top.

Check the exact number of chanters that spawn after you kill the first 2 instead of a range.

If you aren’t sure about something, do another fractal run a few days later and make your sentences statements, rather than moderately well informed guesses. You can look at getting some information off of gw2dungeons.net as weth keeps it well updated.

You may also want to mention the most relevant consumables for each fractal. Ie. cliffside is outlaw slaying. Molten facility is sharpening stones. etc…

You can slow the video down and zoom in for specific tells the first time the occur, pause and show the description, then continue so players know what they should be looking for. As a reference, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Kvk28qNfw4. Card’s video displaying proper aegis timing for grawl shaman.

its a fractal mechanics guide

Really? Let’s see.

-you recommend range attacks and spreading out to decrease chance of party wiping at 1st stage of archdiviner. At max melee range you have to be careful of 2 (TWO) attacks. How about show those TWO attacks and let people learn them instead? Like slow them down, show the tell to people? Do you know that his range attacks can bug out and hit you regardless of range you are away from him?

-“I haven’t tested it extensively, but I’m pretty sure…” <—- this does not belong in a guide. You either know or you don’t make a guide. Guides are done by people who know, not people who think they know. Personally, I’ve done all the dungeons a thousand times, but I still don’t feel fit to mentor them. There are people who are more suited for that than me and that’s fine.

-I miss the mention of hammer #3 skill, which will grant you stability – immunity against the 30 stacks stun – you know this (you used it in the video), it’s a good tip, but you didn’t write it out.

-I miss the knowledge of entire party, i.e. ele put down sandstorms at first set of seals, thieves/mesmers/eles blink the hammer up, etc.

-second seal: “it takes about 10 hits” <—- why write a number you’re not sure of?

-“if you kill both chanters, a dozen or so” <- again, same thing

-you didn’t even mention how standing next to archdiviner while hitting the seals work and what the formula is to how many people should stand there to remove x amount of stacks of defiance

There’s more things I could nitpick, but I honestly like the format and the idea, it’s just that the run on video is so very, very poor. I really don’t want to see people learning how to do stuff off of this video, even though it’s presented in an appealing format.

The bug always happens, the aoe damage portion that should be centered around the archdiviner (physically hitting with the hammer) happens around the player he targets afaik. Like the ele blast heal blasts at the targets location instead of on yourself

Teaching people who spend their time learning instead of playing through means of misinformation is not respectful to people’s time.

Ty for the constructive feedback! All excellent points. I’ve added the black outline for future text edits, as well as the wanted consumables. I’ll definitely leave the serious stuff for the objective section, and come up with a different way for the funny stuff. The pauses/slows for tells is a very good idea, I’ll add those in as well, and I’ll use gw2dungeons.net for confirmation on specifics. Thanks again!

This is the kind of feedback I like, thank you. I’m perfectly fine with adding all this and fixing the cliffside guide. Ive run fractals thousands of times as well and am guilty of thinking some things are common sense, and working off of intuition when to others its not. I don’t mind being called out on hard facts, it makes for a better guide.

The good thing you can be happy about, these aren’t set in stone guides, I’ll be removing and fixing them to make a better version, to see what I miss and what I could fix, I’m more then willing to attempt what people suggest.

I am not even sure if this is a bug, just see it that way that the projectile attack has two components. The first component are the (reflectable) projectiles, the second component is unreflectable (but dodgable/blockable) and hits immediately when he does his animation. And i am pretty sure that only the targeted player gets hit by it.

Yeah I’ve seen it several times myself, dodging regardless if he was aiming at me or not, cause the times I didn’t I’d get hit by one of them or both. RIP.

Edit: BTW almost done with the Molten Boss test guide, it should be uploading in about 24 hrs. It has a lot of the stuff that people want in it. Should I include scenes when things kinda go bad like at the end of the cliffside guide, or should I relatively keep it to a smooth run edit?

Updated with the Molten Boss Fractal Test Guide link at the top, Its processing now and will take about 2 hours from now before it will be viewable….. I won’t be awake by the time its up, so I’d figure I’d let you guys tear it apart while I sleep.

I’ve incorporated slowdowns for tells, With walls of texts for explanations. Since the fights themselves are veeeeery quick, I found it hard to give each text enough time to be read, I could slow down the footage, but I don’t want the footage to get too butchered.

I might mess with some effects later on, I wouldn’t go overboard with it, cause I’d feel that would be obnoxious.

Didn’t add any funnies to this one yet, wanted to get the facts right before I did anything else.

Also, should I keep with the same looping song, or find some other tunes to loop for each fractal? Finding good FREE royalty free music is really time consuming.

Molten Duo:

You can shorten some of the explanations by focusing on the important parts.

“Effigy: Brings arms up, curls fists, brings arms down and out. Firestorm spawns on target” Focus on giving a concise description of the animation. And you can describe how to counter his mechanics, then give a short list of examples. Ie. “Projectile defenses will render his auto attack useless(eg. wall of reflection, feedback, smokescreen)” “If you fail to kill the effigy before the mobs spawn send a player to kite.” “Skills which create multiple impacts are more effective due to his large hitbox(Ice storm, Meteor shower, Smite, Whirlwind attack)”

The knockback occurs on the bouncing fireball when he is enraged. For the molten firestorm.

Enko.6123

The mobs spawn when the Effigy hits 75% hp if you don’t want to use the statement “shortly after engaging the effigy”.

His attack looks like Firestorm not Meteor Shower.

For the Berserker, may want to mention that his teleport skill is only used if people are at range. If everyone’s in melee, he doesn’t use it. You sort of mentioned this in the Phase 1 section. Might want to just add it to the notes on the list of attacks section.

For the Firestorm after the phase change, he’ll fly in a circle 4 times before landing (if people wanted to know the timing for it).

Feedback can be used to reflect the projectiles. Everyone should be inside of it though so the projectiles actually hit the feedback.

Updated Molten Boss Fractal Guide with a more concise text description, fixed errors, and added a funny at the end to it. The only way I can describe it, is what I see whenever that cutscene happens….

Again it will take 2 hrs from the time of this post before its finished uploading.

And thx again for the feedback everyone! Editing Ascalon fractal next in the meantime.

Cliffside spawns 8 chanters and a veteran after you killed the first 2 at a double seal. I’ll try to test the ring of warding on the first archdiviner when I roll a cliffside.

Ty for the clarification, I’ll add it in when I get new cliffside footage.

In the mean time, uploading Snowblind test guide now, it should be up in 8 hours from this posting, will put a link in the OP.

Fixed audio for Snowblind, Also added Thaumanova Reactor guide, it should be finished uploading from 2 hours of this post.

Would anyone mind helping me clarify the time limit you would have to save the inquest in the lab room, as well as the HP threshold you would need to put Subject 6 into before it summons repair oozes?

The dorms event on 40s and 50s is bugged (Don’t know if its bugged between 31-39 and 41-49. probably is though). The door to the final room with the console is already open so you just walk in and hit the console.

On 30s and below, you’ll still need to break down the door. Next time I get it on a 30, I’ll take a look at how long it takes. Not sure if its a timer base thing or if its just due to the NPCs finally getting killed by the mobs.

I don’t think its a bug, because in case of the possibility of failing to save the inquest you would be permanently locked out of being able to complete the fractal at 40+ due to not being able to open the door. I believe they kept the idea to save the inquest as a bonus DPS boost for the end boss.

The reason why you would only have to save the inquest -39 is because you only need 3 Collidors with all 4 rooms accessable, and if you fail labs, you can get the 3 collidors you need from the other rooms, so there’s always a way out.

Its definitely timer based because the Gas and Fire room inquest always died first when we left them alobe after getting the collidor, the mob rooms inquest will tank the Aatax surprisingly well for a while even at higher lvls.

it didn’t use to bug out like this. Could Anet have made a lazy fix so you couldn’t actually fail the fractal since this used to be one of the few ways that would require you to do a restart? Sure. would have been nice if they put that in the patch notes then.

If you really want to see if its timer based or if its based off an npc dying, let the guys out of the gas and fire room and wait for the Aatxes to kill their npc.

Oh yeah i didn’t mean like a timer where there is simply just a time limit, like a time limit you would have to save the inquest from the gas/fire rooms before they died, because i’d assume that once they reached a certain point in time with the gas filling up one room and fire with the other they would keel over, thus locking you out.

But yeah I’ll test it out next time I get a Reactor roll.

I tried to solo the dorm before: rescued the ones from Gas and Fire Room. Broke the Door of the one with only one Aatxe. In the middle of breaking the last door, the event failed, even though both of the last Inquests were still very healthy. I could still continue to kill the Aatxes but the event just locked out at that point.

Added Aetherblade Fractal link to the OP, processing now and should be up within 6 hours of this post.

Feel free to throw any constructive criticism my way. I’ll be at PAX prime over the weekend, so I won’t be able to fix anything till I get back.

Edit: altered the thread title so its less wishy washy.

I still don’t get what a fractal is.

A fractal (right now before the HOT changes) Is a dungeon where you join and are put into a shard(dungeon path)that is randomly pulled from a list of tier 1 shards. When you go through that and kill the end boss you are put into another shard from a list of tier 2 shards, rinse and repeat in the 3rd shard and then you are placed into a boss shard pulled from a list of 3 boss shards. When you complete the boss shard you have finished one fractal run and your personal reward level will increase if it is at or below the difficulty level of the fractal you were doing. You can only start a fractal whose difficulty level is at or below your personal reward level. If you join someone else’s fractal whose difficulty is above your personal reward level, after killing the boss you will receive rewards as if you had completed a fractal whose difficulty was at your personal reward level.
