Destroying infusions by attuning rings
Probably not going to get any help but you can contact support using the links at the top. They are very helpful contrary to what you hear but no guarantee they can get the items back for your friend.
I would urge them to be more careful in the future and double check or make sure to only have the infusion extracted ring in their inventory once it has been stripped of its infusions.
They’ll very likely send you back the infusion. Definitely open a support ticket.

FYI for anyone following along: the mystic forge always destroys the original items, including any upgrades. Attuning or infusing a ring always produces a new item. Similarly, you don’t actually change stats on your ascended armor or weapons; you destroy the original and get a new piece of gear in its place.
tl;dr don’t forge unless you have removed the upgrades or are prepared to lose them to zommy’s endless appetite.
