Q:

The title is attention grabbing but still relevant.

I’ve hit a number of dungeons now and while it’s easier to mix it up with friends/guildies, there are already specific branches to particular dungeons that PUGs always pick. People will typically pick what’s easier to do/farm.

Is this really surprising?

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

Each of the different explorable dungeon branches rewards you with bonus tokens at the end the FIRST time you run it each day. So if you want to run the dungeon multiple times in a day, you’re generally better rewarded for doing each of the different branches for maximum rewards.

No, but its very boring to do these easy farm run dungeons.

I try to pick other options from time to time. So I dont see how its pointless. I think its more pointless to go to dungeons and only do the easy stuff and complain how easy/boring or how much content lacks in GW2 dungeons.

Pick something else, enjoy the dungeons, do something challenging for a change.

No, but what’s wrong with that? If you want to farm faster you go through the easier routes, if you want a more challenging experience and/or don’t want to run the same exact dungeon 60+ you can have some variety.

As I said if you can mobilise you friends/guildies, then doing the different branches is fun. The standard with PUGs tho will become, as I said, the same branch.

I guess if it was something predicted by ArenaNet and they didn’t invest a lot of time in developing different branches, considering most people will pick one, then you couldn’t call it a fail.

Well its just human nature to select something out of a bunch. We prefer a certain type of dungeon over others. What that can be idk, but for now the standard farm runs are based on “Not bugged routes”, easier to clear with new players in the team, less boss/trash in the way + high token loot.

It should eventually change as players see no need for the tokens but just want to explore the dungeon for better loot, which they get at the end of the dungeons.

Faster and easier path > 10 bonus tokens + multiple deaths on a harder path + a longer path

Rewards need to be adjusted.

I would tend to agree. Right now, I’d be FAR more likely to do the easier path over again for the 20 tokens, than a new harder path for 30 tokens. The gap isn’t large enough to dissuade me. If it was a difference of say, 50 tokens vs 25 tokens on the run, I’m going to go with the harder 50 token one. Or even just 30 and marking it down to 15 after finishing, I’d go 30 without question.

One thing I was really hoping for? A bonus for finishing all 3 paths. Incentive to actually run the 3, instead of just picking out the easiest path in each dungeon for the highest rewards. Even if it was something as simple as an additional 30 tokens for finishing up all 3. Getting 30, 30, and then 30+30 on that final path would feel really nice.

Armor and weapons are considerably cheaper now. By the time you get enough tokens for a piece, you’ll have enough to buy another with gold.
