I just returned to GW2 after being gone for over a year. I tried a few 5 mans and noticed people just run through until they find a certain corner and AOE. Are pretty much all dungeons like this now?

For a class specific question. Do ele’s spec into support roles anymore? Seems like if i die people just continue to aoe and rez after.

Dont get me wrong, i like the short runs. It just feels a little strange.

That’s pretty much the PUG experience.

To put in in perspective, we’ve been running these same paths for two years (blah blah blah aetherpath blah blah TAFU blah blah net change blah blah long time). At this point, people just rush them, since they’ve already squeezed as much fun as they can from them.

You’ll see less of this in Arah and Fractals, but pugging low level dungeons is going to be a snorefest.

1) Stacking is the norm in dungeon. It allow your team to cleave all mobs, stay in support range (boons, etc) and help to rez if needed.

2) Corner stacking is another thing. It’s a good strategy to regroup mobs together. But because of FGS is was the best strategy everytime. Now that FGS was nerf, corner stacking should only be use in specific situation, but pugs have a hard time adapting and corner stack even when this hurt your team.

3) Elementalist have the best AoE dmg of all profession and its the main profession in dungeon. It can also be an offensive support profession by stacking migh and fury for the whole team.

4) Rezzing in mid fight depend on the situation. If there is lot of mobs, you are better to hit a mobs while your team AoE so you rally on them. If you fight a single boss, alts have high hp or they are too far away, then rezzing will be a better option.

Not trying to tease you or anything, but “stacking in the corner and AOE” is exactly the reason why I hardly play PvE anymore. I like unexpected challenges, I like improvising, I don’t like feeling like a monkey who has been taught a few tricks and the only test is just to reproduce what you learned by heart. My heart simply isn’t up for this.

Seriously… dungeons are OLD, kitten. That’s IT, alright? God. People learn to overcome challenges. Humans learn things by heart if they do it enough times. Feel special all you want while us “chimps” do things mechanically, but that’s what humans do. New tricks are discovered, new desirable things are introduced in the game, and that expensive stuff.. you buy with gold. And nobody could possibly EXPECT the kitten community to stay the same for 2 years only because—
And holy mother of Cthulhu, how is pve supposed to be ever-changing and a continuous challenge to overcome with improvisation?!
Alright, seems like I can’t read such posts anymore, not without getting angry.

So you just don’t like the concept of PvE in general. Even the most complex and interesting raid boss possible is just a “few tricks” and reproducing what you learned by heart. Fair enough, I’m one of the few who didn’t enjoy gw1 pve since the pvp experience was so good, so I get it.

You guys are so used to annoying antizerkers it makes me cringe xD

OP isn’t whining about it, calling it an exploit, or saying people who are using it are bad and should stop. They’re just trying to find out if that’s all the game is. I can imagine the feeling, walking into the game and this point and seeing the “challenging” dungeon content getting facerolled by uncoordinated pugs.

No need to be angry over this post I think OP was just expecting more from a dungeon challenge.

I mean, we all feel that frustration/disappointment, right?

Dlonie you are absolutely correct. I find it kind of funny people are angry over my post.

When I last played though, wipes were common.
I dont really have a problem blazing through old content and understand why.

I guess I need to push into higher level fractuals for a more enjoyable game play (for me).

Because it has been designed this way in other games. I have diablo in mind, but there are other examples.

Apart from that, no need to get angry I was explaining my opinion of why I understand the view of the OP, no big deal. My apologies for the “monkey” metaphore … bleh.

Yep, I think you are right. Although I would say I enjoyed the PvE in other games where new content was existent not so rare: the feeling of having to rush and strive to beat it satisfied me. I did not kill Arthas HM more than twice

High level FotM are good, or find a good group to duo/trio with (or solo, if you really want the challenge). Most paths can be done by 2-3 people, and Arah is especially fun IMO

At this point, a lot of the fights feel more…appropriate with fewer people. I think my favorite was a CoE duo a couple months ago. Even the golem trash fights get a decent boost to challenge when you don’t have the DPS to LOS and cleave in a corner.

This for sure, I usually either have too many friends online or too few so I end going into a smaller group to do dungeons (and sometimes fotm). I once two manned fotm 50 till we got archdiviner then we picked up a third and go to the last spot before the boss till we all begrudgingly pugged it. Oh, and don’t forget doing incredibly silly solos of things like killing risen spiders with only a earth shield xD Nothing beats the the satisfaction of under manning dungeons though, makes you actually have to think about whats best for your class to bring in each situation.

Lower lvl dungeons are much easier to do now because of the ferocity downscaling changes and the NPE changes to new players. Since new players now have no traits while leveling the mobs got tuned down to match then, and the change to downscaling in crit damage made lvl 80 players hit for much more when in lower lvl zones like the AC dungeon.

So mobs in these dungeons are weaker and players do much more damage to then.

To some, dungeons are for gold. To others, it is to put on their tryhard pants and enjoy it the difficult way.

For example, these 1 and 2 are the VoD of CM path 2 with two different groups, both with TeamSpeak. One group, I was completely unfamilar with and one with which I have been running almost daily. Same strategy, but onetook almost twice as long as the other. Can you spot my fun? It is to adapt to the tempo of each group and adjust when things go wrong.

And (lol) I don’t even bother uploading my pug run of the same path which took almost 20 minutes because pug could not follow thief for stealth skip and failed the gate part over and over. Does fail equate with fun? I think not. Not when we already know how to do things better.

You know playing with other thieves is like a game within it self if the person knows how thieves work. It’s like playing simon says but with 4 commands, move, stop, blast, don’t blast.

Good teams dont corner much, only reason to Corner is to Bunch the Mobs up in a very tight ball so to do damage to all of them at once.

Everything worth in this game is based on gold.. b.c there are no rewards for skill or time invested and everything can be bought players only want gold. B.c dungeons are a AMAZING easy way for anyone to get gold, the idea is the more dungeons you do and the faster you do them the more gold you get to buy your shiny looking gear.

I just returned to GW2 after being gone for over a year. I tried a few 5 mans and noticed people just run through until they find a certain corner and AOE. Are pretty much all dungeons like this now?

People have had a long time to get used to the dungeons, where mobs are placed/patrolling, and which of those can be easily passed by without much trouble. A lot of people are bored of fighting what is commonly called “trash mobs” (mobs that don’t require interesting fight mechanics and don’t drop special loot), thus they have figured out how to get around them.

Lower level dungeons and their mobs have also become easier to break/skip mechanics by full damage groups, thus the preference for getting enemies into one spot and aoe-ing them. If you go full damage, you don’t want to spread out nor want mobs spread out around you, since defence lies mainly in active use of skills (blinding enemies, reflecting projectiles, boons like aegis, …) that work best if both your party and the enemies you are fighting are close to each other.

That said, there are a lot of people around that prefer a playstyle that relies more on passive defenses (gear with defensive stats, group healing builds, …) and/or prefer not to skip past groups of mobs. For example, when I’m in TA forward with my guild, we usually clear the trash mobs along the path after the 2nd boss encounter, because the skip there can be pretty nasty and several of my guildies feel frustrated by not making it again and again.

It is rare to find groups like that on the lfg though, since the “pug meta” is mostly full damage (equipment with berserker or assassin traits), active defenses and lots of skipping. Don’t hesitate to open your own group with requirements like “no skipping”, “watching cutscenes”, “low levels welcome”, or whatever you feel like. You’ll be surprised how quickly those groups fill. I like to jump into them whenever I catch one of those up on lfg, because they usually are friendly, fun, and a welcome change of pace from my normal dungeon running.

For a class specific question. Do ele’s spec into support roles anymore? Seems like if i die people just continue to aoe and rez after.

As I said above, currently the majority of pugs works on the basis of maxing out damage and active defenses. As such, the ele plays a substantial part of support by bringing might and fury buffs, while traited heavily into the damage supporting trait lines (and of course bringing a ton of personal damage, too). Eles traiting deep into the support trait lines, bringing regeneration, protection and water fields, are more commonly found in WvW or non-lfg groups.

The price for a max-damage group set-up is that the group has to finish encounters before they run out of active defenses. A “traditional” support character (AH guardian, water ele, …) has a good chance of messing this up by not contributing enough to dps and not being able to out-heal/out-protect the incoming damage at the same time. In a group building with defensive stats and traits, you can still have a good spot as a water ele (or whatever support you wish to bring), just don’t expect a random group from lfg to make use of such a build.

Dont get me wrong, i like the short runs. It just feels a little strange.

You’ll get used to it. Just remember to open your own special-requirements lfg if you feel the need for a change, or find a casual guild with people still running dungeons with vastly different team compositions and strategies. But be prepared to not get the best of both worlds … the last CoE p1 run I did with my casual guildies took 50 minutes . I love my guildies for being who they are, but most of my dungeon runs take place outside of guilds, with friends or via lfg, because my guild just doesn’t do the kind of dungeon runs I enjoy most of the time.

Old content is old, thy why it’s shallow. Ofcourse people will try to find the most reliable and the most easiest way to rush through them. I personally stopped running dungeons few months ago (420 hobby dungeon explorer) and concentrated solely on fractals. Sadly, it seems that we are not getting any new dungeons in HoT based on the informations we have so far, but, imagine if we would, and they make them much harded, how big the outcry would be from all those who couldn’t beat them?
