Does MF affect mists essence drops?
Probably, but you will find enough without them. At least I found more with 0% MF than I can ever hope to use with the current recipes.
in one run, I had 2 vials drop for me. that’s with 0 MF.
MF is broken as don’t use it.
I don’t use MF myself. And yeah, I’ve seen people running MF gear an getting no vials while people with no MF getting many of them. Maybe then it doesn’t affect vial drops. I just want to get to the bottom of this so that people will stop using MF in fractals, as it is harmful for the entire group – maybe for no reason.

That depends on the goals of the group. If the group is there to knock out a daily ASAP, MF is going to slow that down. If the group is looking to get the optimal amount of loot out of a fractal then they’re doing themselves a disservice if they aren’t running some MF.
I’ll never get why people will rail on groupmates for bringing some MF, but not when they overspec survivability. You never hear “Why aren’t you running full berserker gear? You’ve never got close to being downed.”

Maybe because the spec is completely the playstyle of the player, while wearing MF is simply the greediness of the player.
I’ve ran 40+ fractal runs, about 15 of them were with full MF + food…the difference is ridiculous LOW considering the majority of groups skip mobs. Fractals are not a place where you gain an huge profit anyways unless you farm the low difficulties…i don’t see a reason of why anyone would agree with using MF on higher difficulties since time = profit.
If you can do 10 runs with MF gear and 13-15 without MF in the same time you will probably get more profit from no MF runs since chests are what gives the most profit anyways, so the argument “to get more” is actually wrong since time = gold.
On topic, vials seems to not be affected by MF imo, it’s completely random.

Sleepy hit the nail on the head. MF is the epitome of player selfishness and greed. I have absolutely no idea how it made it into this game.
I would attest it’s completely random, as I’ve done 91 fractals and gotten zero vials. I do have two rings though. Too bad their stats are completely not what I want.

Which again runs into the issue of what the goal of the group is. If you’re going for optimal fast completion, everyone should be running as much glass cannon as possible for most of the fractals. If you’re looking at getting the most out of the mobs, you won’t be skipping them and you’ll be using some MF.
Depending on the fractals you get, the mobs can easily drop more value than the chests, especially with MF, so they’re worth the time unless dailies/tokens are your primary goal.
You can argue that running MF is selfish, but I fail to see how it is any more selfish than running a bunch of vitality/toughness instead of power/condition damage, especially if you’re just doing the latter so you can be lazy and take hits. You’re slowing down the entire group just because you don’t want to dodge things. But that is a straw man, isn’t it? Because the anti-MF sentiment in groups isn’t really about group optimization to achieve a goal, it is just backlash against people making money.

If you are downed or dead you are not doing Any damage and neither is the guy reviving you (who is now very likely in harms way). Survival > Damage, magic find isn’t even in the equation nor should it be. In the higher levels I find that the chance of fails/wipes goes up quite considerably once just one guy gets downed, not even dead.

Sure, but most survival in GW2 is movement-based, not stat-based. The fact is that many more people over-gear towards survival at the cost of offense than over-gear towards MF at the cost of offense/survival. They don’t catch any flak for it, because it is more socially acceptable to be lazy with your movement (choosing to take hits because you can) than it is to be lazy with your income (choosing to spend less time farming because you brought MF).
The “you’re harming the group!” argument only has significant weight for groups that are actually optimizing now, which very few are. Tuning your groupmates’ stat is something you should be looking at only after telling them how to properly build and play their profession anyways, since skill choice is going to have a much larger effect on how well the group tackles things.
tl;dr – Group says “How dare you run pirate runes!” while ignoring the thief using Signet of Shadows.

This is getting a bit off topic.
Please, this thread is regarding an official response to whether MF applies to vial or glob drops.

I have 6 and I don’t use MF gear.
