Someone asked me today about whether personal fractal level affected their loot. It used to, of course, but does it have any affect on anything today? All I could think of is that it’s easier to use the LFG tool for tier 4 if you’re PFL is 76+ and the amount of karma you get (which isn’t usually important to most fractal frequenters).

Does personal fractal level matter for anything else?

• Fractal level determines the end chest reward and the number of relics.
• Fractal level affects which mists essence drops (or at least, which has the highest drop rate).
• Bonus chests are determined by the fractal level, not the personal level, including the valuable Master|Expert|Adept|Initiate chests and the less-valuable ‘research’ chests.

Are you sure about that? I am certain that at least to some point fractal end reward was capped by your personal level.
Of course, if they did change it at some point, there was no way for me to notice. And it’s not really important compared to daily rewards anyway.

If you’re right, then, besides karma and lfg (and of course access, but that is not really “personal” since it is checked for a group, not each person separately) personal level would have no meaning whatsoever anymore.

Are you sure about that? I am certain that at least to some point fractal end reward was capped by your personal level.
Of course, if they did change it at some point, there was no way for me to notice. And it’s not really important compared to daily rewards anyway.

If you’re right, then, besides karma and lfg (and of course access, but that is not really “personal” since it is checked for a group, not each person separately) personal level would have no meaning whatsoever anymore.

Personal USED to cap rewards. Before they revamped the fractal levels, if you had a lower level than the level series you were doing, you would get the lower rewards. (This was when the frac level cap was 50)

Since the revamp to 100 fractal levels, personal level has meant literally nothing.

The only thing it determines is what you PERSONALLY can open.

I know it also affects Karma gains, not that it’s a huge deal but the formula is:
(160 + 2 * Completed difficulty) * (Personal fractal level – Completed difficulty)

Where the second factor is capped at 10.

It used to be called fractal reward level. Just saying. :/
