Opening a thread to discuss and possibly learn melee tactics from. First question as OP would be:

(valid currently for build 23458) How do you reliably melee (when in zerk) that Champion Door Guard in CM story that if I remember correctly has a melee attack which is more than 130 range, tracks, and bleeds per hit, as well as triggering HB every now and then?

Cross profession tips would be reaally useful for here. Only way I can think of doing so is a chain blind every half a second or less (just blind as fast as he attacks).

Do you mean the one in CM? I don’t recall anybody HBing in AC Story, but there is a door guard in CM that does HB and seems to occasionally flatten pugs.

In which case my suggestion is to take skills that allow you to block and/or learn when to dodge. His HB won’t lock you in place so you can easily dodge once you see him start the animation for it and either you or one of your team mates ought to have some form of condition cleanse to deal with the bleed stacks. If your entire team sits on him and melees him to death, he really shouldn’t live long enough to be a concern. The biggest hurdle to Zerk Meleeing is convincing the rest of your team that it’s the optimal strategy.

Not sure about that guy specifically, cause how often do you run CM story, really? But blind is only 10% effective against Unshakeable enemies, meaning when they have the Blind debuff up they’ll only miss once out of every 10 attacks.

I’m constantly surprised at how many people don’t realize that.

Yeah, blind is really only useful against mobs. It does next to nothing on bosses. There’s really not a whole lot of useful conditions to lay on bosses except maybe chill, since it makes their cooldowns longer. I’m not even sure that applies to bosses, does it?

Anyways, yeah, like I said. Just kinda mob on him and beat him down and he really can’t reasonably be a threat.

I can’t even remember the first boss in SE p3.

For champ wolf in COE, just push it to the wall and DPS it before it leaps again, which generally means using fiery rush at the wall.

When doing the champ wolf you want to get someone to bait out the leaps before losing round into the corner. Otherwise people get downed.

The first boss in SE p3 you just wanna cc him into the wall and burn him down as fast as possible and take lots of condi removal. Also just dodge when he burrows cause that really hurts aswell as stacking bleeds.

I can’t even remember the first boss in SE p3.

He’s annoying because his regular attacks cause LOTS of bleed stacks, and his tunnel move will leave very short reaction time if everyone is stacked in melee. Also, his tell is hard to see because of his small model and the party’s effect spam.

No secret to it really, condi removal and stack and burn.

I think we just kill him too fast with FGS. Either that or it’s kind of like AC spider queen where the slightest movement will trigger the tunnel attack.

Yeah, that guy. Last time I tried that with my warrior I faceplant most of the time from the bleeds he stacks per attack (was using the regular banner/FGJ/endure pain utils) and backing away while attacking while he’s crippled still hurts when you go melee.

At least on engineer kiting him around throwing grenades around works, but it’s still not melee. I shudder to think how to melee that boss on a sword ranger.

If you are soloing you can keep him crippled/chilled and run around the room at max melee range. Occasionally he will get close enough so you have to dodge away.
Alternatively stay close to a pillar on stair. When he glows jump on the pillar and he can’t hit you. Get down when he finishes so he won’t turn invulnerable.

I think you can still use safespot for Volkov. And at least on my solo npc tanked him but probably won’t work in a group.
On Icebrood Wolf count to 33 after he uses his special attacks and then dodge again.

Haha it’s not exploiting! I’m taking advantage of the fact that Dredge have little arms, so standing where my weapons can still hit him is just a super l33t tactic.

I remember being able to range AFK the Destroyer as well, I think that got pseudo nerfed though and he sometimes goes invuln, like when trying to bug Howling King on the stairs…. Those were the days… I don’t miss Pugging at all.
