Dungeon Newbies Unwelcome?
The only part where you went wrong was not mentioning you were new to the dungeon at the beginning. Once they knew that you were new, they should have went a lot slower and explained the run in detail as to what to do. Don’t be discouraged by this one bad group. You’re bound to find a few people that automatically assume or just suck at explaining what to do.
Bad group, but you should have mentioned that it was your first time.
I do feel your pain though. Experienced players have to start somewhere. I had the same problem my first explorable. I started attacking things and everyone else started running. I was quite confused. lol. I don’t like running. Runs the risk of people dying like that.
I hope everything goes better for you.
you HAVE TO mention you are a noob or they are going to assume you arent.
i dont mind playing with people who havent done a dungeon but it is really annoying when they just come in and start doing random stuff without talking to anyone first
So, I’m guessing I should just only do explorables with guildmates?
That would probably be for the best.
You might meet nice folks if you PuG. You might not. Maybe these guys would have been nicer if you’d managed to get a sentence in before they ran off, but based on their behavior once they figured out you were new, probably not.

[..] was this just an elitist group I happened to find myself grouped with? I’m really hoping that’s not what this game’s community is like normally.
Dont worry. A elitist party probably kick you at the very first moment when you demostrate dont know what are you doing and, most important, SAYING NOTHING ABOUT THAT.
This “elitist group” carry you to the end of the dungeon, give you free work tokens and full cover on death situations and YOU are here, in the forums, crying like a baby because THEY have the fault of ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? .
L O O O O O L
If that is elitist, i would love to see you being kicked hundred times from “gentle soul partys”. Right at middle of run because you DONT SAY ITS YOUR FIRST TIME; when they note your lack of all interest on make yourself useful for the group.
They were nice enough to keep you on I suppose. Would have been better if they taught you, but most learning is done by observing anyway. Fake it until you make it, I suppose. That’s what I did. But learning with a guild is always the best option. Once you learn with your guild, you can pug and teach others. Don’t look for good pugs, be the good pugs.
U had a bad Group. Look for a decent caring guild, they will teach you how-to.
That was a standard group, not an elitist one. The elitists would of been both meaner and kicked you. Elite could of carried or kicked, but would have taught if carrying.
See stickies at the top of this forum for video guides since you mentioned typically being the one that had watched them.

^^^^
Seriously. They don’t kick you, but they do all of your work for you instead.
They don’t kick you and find someone else instead.
They do everything for you and let you in on the free loot.
Think about it
The only way they can be nicer is by teaching you, but really, should’ve said something. IF you say something from the get go, someone might start teaching you about how things work
You made 2 mistakes.
First one is PUGing while you are learning. – Join a decent dungeon guild
Second is not telling them you are new. – They would have given you pointers hopefully
Check out the thread below to contact people that are willing to teach you.

You should mention at the very start if you don’t know the path. It’s not the group’s responsibility to determine that. Most people will have no problem explaining so long as you LISTEN. The reason some people refuse to run with inexperienced players is that so many of them just won’t listen.
For example, we were doing the Cliffside fractal and had gotten to the part with the seals on each arm. We had two people that had not done fractals ever. We explained what to do with the hammer at the start and what to do when we came to each section. One person refused to listen and kept swinging the hammer at the seal rather than unlock the 4th skill. That same person also killed everything forcing acolytes to respawn and heal the seal.
Outside of dungeons, you also have people who fail to listen. Just look at the Temple of Grenth event. A lot of the times that it fails is because people don’t listen and fight on the stairs.
There is a problem here i see that is the lack of communication in the group, the people that were with you could have given you some heads up about the encounters and stuff. But they also helped you a lot i believe, specially in that tunnels full of gravelings before the boss fight, that are really easy to get lost and killed in the way.
I’ve done AC several times but i also got yelled when i didn’t stack with the group near the stairs to fight the spider, i wasn’t aware at that time about this new way to exploit the fight.
But i also think you got luck to get such an skilled group that managed to complete the path. My first experiences in AC path 1 were just TERRIBLE, i was in a lot of runs that didn’t passed that room full of burrows. I still hate Hodgins for being such a stupid npc :P And now that ANet changed the AC dungeon i think it really is not a good option for not very experienced pugs.
Well, at least you didn’t get a bad pug full of ragequitters, there are some people that when they join a group if they see that some of the members have low achievement points they just leave.

I love how the community of this game has degraded. In a few more years, it might be equivalent to another big MMO. Sad, very very very sad.
If you’re new to the dungeon, let them know that you’re new. I would rather have someone speak up so things can be explained to them rather than to do a run and have them die and think they’re just a horrible player.
Watching/reading some guides was a good start if you’re new to a dungeon. However, you should definitely have mentioned this BEFORE zoning in. If they kick you, so what? You avoided being harassed or feeling like a dead weight. If they decide to still take you, then they’ll more than likely take the time to explain each step.
Also, on gw2lfg.com, you’ll find groups that advertise “newbies welcome”, etc so you don’t have to join speed clears. You can also LFG on that site and specifically mention than you’re new to that dungeon.

Not degrading, but after close to a year you expect that people know what they are doing, UNLESS they specifically tell u they don’t, IN WHICH CASE 95% of the times people will be eager to help and teach, BUT if you hold your mouth, I’ll assume not that you are inexperienced in a certain path or dungeon, but that you have no clue how to play your class; therefore it’s YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to inform your PUG that you’re newbie to the dungeon. I GUARANTEE that 90% of the people will be superfriendly and eager to help, give tips, and won’t mind rezzing you a bunch of times .
only exception being the “ZOMG SPEED $$$$ CoF FARM, PING PING ZERKER 20h RUN” Farmers.

Funny you should mention it that way… Actually that’s EXACTLY what the bad-reputation cliche` elitists do. They’ll carry people sometimes and then never bother explaining their methods or educating anyone on why they do things the way they do. It’s the biggest problem with “Competitive” communities and tourney-tryhards too. They really need to get over themselves and stop acting like they’re some gift from god. When all they do is hand out wellfare and then insult people for it, they just make the game they spend so much time in, worse for the wear.
The truly Elite don’t even say much. And they definitely don’t need to insult anyone to feel better about all the time they’ve wasted on some game. They do what they do because they enjoy it more than they enjoy the imaginary status they get from “being among the best”. This is especially true in FPS games. But in a few cases, those Truly Good players will also take the time to explain all the details to initiates. They won’t do that with total newbies b/c the total newbie has no frame of reference yet to even understand the concepts yet. So that means there still has to be some kind of “training program” in between Newbie and Initiate levels.
If you have no interest in that level and educating those like the OP. Then plz don’t dirty up a thread that is clearly “looking for help” in nature. Either provide real help, or go back to farming plz.
