Dungeon merchandise
So, how is this affecting your personal gameplay? Is it making you buy the dungeons? Dungeon selling is not against the rules.
It is affecting my gameplay because less people want to do dungeons in a traditional way. It isn’t against the rules yet, but it should be. I don’t play this game for numbers (yea, those dungeon tokens and achi points are just numbers) but for content – meaning for example challenging and interesting boss encounters. Moreover, most people tend to forget that it is a MMO Roleplaying game. How am I supposed to roleplay a dragon-slaying hero when I see folks jumping across walls in undead-haunted city to get a shiny chest once a day?

True but those people are playing the game how “They want”, not how you want them to play. Just because people selling doesn’t mean people will buy it . The ones who sell are doing the dungeon themselves. Speedruns are challenging but that isn’t the traditional way dungeons were meant to be played. You want people to spend hours and hours clearing all the mobs? People who are buying dungeon runs are not being forced to buy them. All you really gotta do is post on lfg tool and people will join your party.
Less people want to do dungeons because dungeons have been left to rot. We have already done them, hundreds of times. Actually I’m at over a thousand runs according to my tracker. In fact selling is one of the only reasons left for some of us to go back into these dungeons. It’s an added challenge with an added reward that we have set ourselves seeing as Arena Net has not.
Now that I see that you actually think dungeons are around for the purposes of roleplaying, I’d discard this thread as troll bait but your post history is.. Well it’s kinda legit. :/
Here’s a hint, if you want roleplaying, there’s a server called Tarnished Coast, a city called Divinity’s reach, and within that city is a bar. They named the NPC there ‘chuck’ and they talk to him like he’s a real person. Upstairs are some rooms, with beds in them. Things.. happen there. This is what roleplaying is, and this is where it belongs… Thankfully.

If ur talking about ppl selling Arah paths then there r a few good reasons why ppl actually buy it instead of running the whole path.I’m sure u already know these reasons but i’ll say it anyways. Lupicus makes alot of ppl rage quit and groups (Pugs) can be stuck on him for a very long time.Skipping trash mobs can be difficult for ppl who dont know how to do it.Why do we skip and instead of killing?Well killing everything in dungeons is a waste of time and not very fun at all.Trust me I tried it with a guild run and we were just joking around at first but it becoming boring real quick.
Sometimes I do run the entire path cuz I wanna fight Lupicus to but if i get to many bad runs then I just look for any1 selling and buy it.So there is some good in selling….just saying.
All those staff guardians soloing arah and selling spots are ruining the game! No one ever sold spots in the first game for any of the dungeons….
There were also some…anomalies in GW1 like all 8 party members using the very same build (Ursan) or Assassins soloing half of the UW – it actually required some skill and experience so for me it was fair.
I think my problem is that: I started playing from the headstart and I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of possibilities, areas to explore etc. Then I had about 7 months of break and when I came back it was like this game had been around for 3-4 years, everything was done, everybody had completed the whole content. So now when I discover those end game activities, they are already being farmed instead of just being played. Selling dungeons makes it harder for new players to learn tactics and it spoils the game. Hovewer I understand that it is a result of a lack of new challenges for accomplished players.
There are still plenty of avenues for a new person to do dungeons while learning as well. One such option is to place an LFG and say that you are new but willing to learn. People will still group you. While some people prefer not to play the content, this is their loss.. It does not need to affect you, all you need do is create your own party.

The way YOU understand, play the game, or have fun with it is not the same for other people. If everyone had the same mindset as you that would be a really really really boring world due to monotony.
Sorry, but your earlier argument of “stop players from doing this because less people party with me” is a bit selfish and absurd.

On the topic of learning strategies, youtube videos of those runs are more than enough of a tutorial to learn the strategies on how to handle the dungeon. Observers just need to be attentive.

i beg to differ
those who buy ‘tokens’, or paths for DM title, probably wouldn’t do those dungeons anyway
tho i agree that people don’t get what playing is all about – having fun – not ‘working’ to hoard shinnies to ‘have’ smth to show off
its the little things that matter, like:
Aetherblade Fractal – hey bob watch out for mines
bob: what mines?
kaboom
teamspeak laughter overflow

Erm you know for some people that IS fun.

Yeah I agree this is kind of a bummer, though you’ll actually find a fair number of like minded people if you post a LFG for “newbies only, exploring the dungeon”.
It isnt hard at all to create your own group OP, that way you can play the way you want, be it RP or clearing the whole dungeon or speedrunning. Besides its not like having ‘Dungeon Master’ title or full Arah gear mean anything now.
“wipe out dungeon selling?” There wasnt a problem with people selling dungeons/elite area clears/missions in Gw1. Soloing is endgame fun for some. Selling isnt against the rules, exploits/griefing other ppl’s groups should be.
Try creating your own group sometime, there are still plenty of new players learning the runs daily, most of the time you only need 1 person who knows the dungeon to have some sort of guide, and new players that are willing to listen. http://gw2dungeons.net has good guides for all paths. There’s also youtube videos, you can look for Strife’s guides.

OP probably didn’t even try to create his own group. You don’t find arah group in lfg because they get filled up almost istantly.
