Q:

Hi all

My friend and i went through Ascalon Catacombs in a party of me at 80, him at ~50 and 3 others at 30-40 some time ago, but we did horrible. We kept dying at even medium sized groups of mobs. We made it through though but it was hard! So i was wondering: is it like this in all the dungeons? I mean are they the same difficulty?

Is there any tips you can give me? We ain’t very skilled players (Both 80 now , and know our class decently) but we would like to complete our story at Arah as soon as possible, but we don’t want to continuously die at we did here. Do we need to know a 10 page strategy for each boss like in WoW? We spent over 1½ hour at Ascalon Catacombs and ended up very frustrated and very close to rage quitting. And the rewards wasn’t even decent (2 Masterwork weapons as far as i remember).

Thank you in advance

/gammarik

AC is a very tough dungeon, relative to most others. It’s a real shock to most groups when they first pop in and die. And die. And die You need to learn the fights. I highly recommend Dulfy’s walkthrough. She does her usually excellent job of breaking it down:

Actually, AC is one the most easy dungeons out there, both in story and explorable mode.

PVE in this game if pretty hard until you’re in full exotics and have a lot of practice with you’re main.

I’m not going to lie and say it’s easy, but it does get easy. After running CoF and AC countless times they’re now easy to me, but it took practice and understanding my class really well.

There is just no way any new GW2 player understand teh mechanics of this game well enough to make a dungeon easy at level 40 or 50 or even 80.

I suggest leveling till 80 then doing dungeons. At least by 80 you’ll have a deeper understanding of your class and what may or may not be helpful in dungeons.

BTW, 90% of dungeon encounters are made easy by a large pool of AOE buffs. I never see warriors use banners yet they make dungeons simple. Engi, Necros’, Ele’s can all make dungeons cake walk if they spec with the group in mind.

I have to literally ask every time for a warrior to use the defensive banner. Selfish specs is half the problem with new PVE’rs.
