Dungeons and trinity
If you like to play the trinity, why not play a game that supports the trinity. Why does GW2 have to cater to players who want to play trinity when every other MMO on the market supports the trinity?
For tanks to work as in other games they have to have 1 or more Aggro gain abbilitys
For healers to work they must be able to spam heal people.
Why would I ever want to take 5 DPS (Non trinity) instead of 1 tank and 1/2 healers?
With 1 tank who would have aggro at all time, and 1-2 healers that would heal the tank so he would be “unkillable” the dungeons would become just like any other mmo dungeon where u stand still and idly press 1-5.
No, the trinity should never be in this game. It’s lazy design from the past.
Yeah, and now all my dungeon groups consist of 1-2 support guardians and 3 DPSers.
“No trinity” sure works.
Most mmo’s out there have the trinity. Take your pick!

Your dungeon groups = Far from all dungeon groups.

You are right – it’s boring to sit and shout for healer(or tank). But maybe you will give a chance to play trinity to those who like it?
There are a multitude of other MMOs for “those who like it”. There is no need to add a weak, failed mechanic to GW2 just because some players have difficulty in adapting to change.

Your dungeon groups are very bad. Fortunatelly, I have never seen any profession discrimination in any of my own dungeon groups. I wonder if it isn’t you who are insisting on the 1-2 support guardians…?

Our dungeon runs say otherwise.

Nope.
There is a Trinity in this game, it’s just less emphasized than other games.
When people stop buying full berserker’s and realize there’s more to this game than DPS DPS DPS, maybe we’d have less people complaining about dungeons, but i digress

The only time party class composition really matters is 1) With specific, extreme party imbalances, in specific dungeon paths (something on the order of bringing five Necromancers to AC path 3 or some other path that requires heavy direct-damage), or 2) If you’re not just trying for dungeon completion, not just trying for effective dungeon completion, but are trying for an ultra-efficient fast run where you’re trying to eke every last drop of performance out of every character to finish the dungeon in as little time as possible.
There’s certainly never any requirement for anything as specific as a certain kind of build with a certain class.
Our dungeon runs say otherwise.
If you need 1-2 support Guardians to keep yourself alive, well, the facts speak for themselves.

Not having trinity works great! I run with a 30 man guild and we always have a odd assortment of toons running dungeons. Just last night we ran CoF path 2 with 4 mesmers and a necro. And I’ve run SE (after patch) with 5 warriors and managed it just fine. (2 spec shout/heal, 1 toughness, 1 banner heal, 1 crit w/ax. Worked surpassingly well.)
Just because you run 2 support guardians doesn’t mean its the only way to play, most of our runs don’t even have guardians in them.

Trinity had one upside, it made players feel as if they were part of a team. You were not able to defeat a dungeon on your own, so you entered it as a team and by giving different players different tasks you really felt as if you were working together.
In GW2 you do not have different tasks really. Each player is a behavioral carbon copy of each other. You do not need other players to complement the team, you need them because else the monsters have too many hitpoints to fight them alone.
Trinity limited each class to a specific role in combat. Imo having different roles never was a problem, being stuck with one because you chose class X hundreds of hours ago was the problem.
It is also true that you do not need trinity to make five players feel as if they were a team. But trinity can be easily applied to every battle, just as the two dudes talking cut-scenes can be applied to every bit of dialog. A developer gets a lot of mileage out of including some sort of trinity. If every team-moment requires individual systems to get programmed, the pricetag on developing the game can rapidly grow out of control.
Everybody is quick to jump on the bandwagon of “let’s blame trinity for all the problems”. Trinity has upsides and downsides, just like the GW2 way of doing dungeon combat has its upsides and downsides.
Trinity is still viable, and probably the best way to speed run dungeons. People are right, you can complete almost every dungeon with various classes, but there are certain comps. that do it the fastest.
It’s not a complete trinity anymore since everyone can heal, it’s more tank/dps/support with certain classes offering support in conjunction with either tank or dps.

Honestly I’m disappointed that more games don’t take the 4-tier system that City of Heroes had: Tanks, offense, support, control. When I first heard about the trinity, it made me wonder why someone would just arbitrarily cut off one leg of the table. Then I learned it is just a simpler and not as thought out system.
I think the thing I like about the lack of a trinity in GW2 is that team makeup isn’t dependent on the skill of one player. Instead, everyone is responsible for themselves and it minimizes the effect of one slacker joining your team. I’m surprised that, as a challenge, more people aren’t running dungeons with fewer players.

There are people who run them with less. For instance there is a couple people who post on here about running AC with only 2 people, it is doable. Unfortunely some paths require 5 people to progress (CoF path 1/3 come to mind) otherwise you can’t move forwards.
