Dungeons have mechanics, raiders
Logic failure at it’s best!
160-176+ MPs don’t imply that those people are raiders.
Dungeons are largely a forgotten game mode, most players who came up with a lot of the old strats don’t even play the game anymore.
That said Mastery points have nothing what so ever to do with anything other than displaying the number of masteries a person has unlocked, just like AP.
If you want to actually do things the way the used to be done while doing a tour of the like ~21 commonly cleared paths you’ll probably just have to find a static group or guild to do them with since not many pugs are going to care how long it takes; seeing that most of them will be doing them for the first or second time and still being caught up in the fun of the content and not be all about that gold/hour.

yep, it just shows that the players like to grind.

You can’t get more than like 168 without raiding. I was playing with people over that limit.
Gonna post an older video that is still very much relevant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPXCdOB8wi4
I don’t have the guts to pug dungeons anymore, but I can easily imagine how they look. People have become complete trash. First sign that gives away how bad the group is, is the composition. You often see people playing necros or double/triple warrior and they don’t even care enough to relog to a different class that would be a milion times more useful. They don’t swap weapons outside of combat for mobility and blasts, don’t swap utility skills or traits, don’t even play proper rotations.
Basically it’s impossible to have a decent dungeon run at this point, because everyone capable of pulling that off is not interested in dungeons anymore.

Doesn’t that mean they did one raid boss to unlock the raid masteries, then got the XP somewhere in HoT to max them? Doing Escort, for instance, does not make someone a raider.

All they needed to do was either buy or get carried through VG and unlock the entire raid mastery to level. And they would never have to step foot in a raid again to get max mastery level. so in other words MP does not equal skill or knowledge

Did a CoF1 today for the daily and we had 4 friends + a pug who kinda had no idea what we were doing at all. It’s not really surprising that most people nowadays don’t do dungeons and have no idea how, raiders or not.
You pretty much can’t expect anything in a pug anymore so just form an org group if you want fast/meta dungeon clears.
Raiding is like an entirely different game mode to dungeons, it’d be like saying open world players should know dungeon mechanics but they don’t either.
Lol!
Thank you very much for the post, OP.
Yeah, Raids and Dungeons could be different but the OP clearly said s/he wanted to explain the run but none answered… who’s fault then?
I should agree with you, OP. I have seen that in Fractals a couple of times too.

You haven’t understood the claim the OP has made with his post. His logic was that he has met players with 168+ who were bad in his dungeon runs and therefore he has named them “raiders” which is an absurd failure in logic because you can buy a run or do Escort or VG once to max out your MP. I know lots of “casual” gamers with such approach due to the wish of owning all masteries.
The OP has no clue at all that his group mates were solid raiders (they haven’t communicating at all) and I’m more than sure they weren’t.

I got a lot of negativity from thr reaction to that video but guess it turns out I was right.

Well sadly I ‘d say that the game has less than 20 players (and that even might be an overstatement) that still care about dungeons in serious way so unless you somehow make friend with them you’re doomed.
Well, you are right there, Vice.
Now, how I can avoid that? Making a pug and asking for EXP dungeon runners? Maybe making a friendly LFG saying I am really happy to explain then run and that kind of things?
My advice to others and to my self is, if you are just looking for the daily, Google the easiest path and look YB about it a couple of times. Even that, if you miss something, don’t be afraid to ask. I tends to forget because I became a Fractal person, but still doing Dungeons when dailies (2 or 3 paths for the currency) and when my guidies ask for people (and I am free) too.
At the end of the day, assumptions are the root of many wrong situations.
They have mechanics, but most of them can be ignored by bursting the bosses down, since they have a laughable amount of health for meta dps groups.

I’m not talking about boss attacks, I’m talking about simple stuff like tanking Bjarl while he’s still buffed even though I’m calling out his mechanics in party chat. You could do 1mil DPS and you still can’t make progress if you refuse to not be an idiot.
You can just condi Bjarl down actually. Also a decent number of people with 176/176 are people that bought their runs or just did escort which is just a glorified event. 176/176 doesn’t mean a person is good.

As always, the first thing to look for in a team is whether people know (or are willing to learn) the mechanics. Skill at the profession is next, especially flexibility and reacting to changes in the environment.
Mastery points, achievement points, LI, etc… none of those tell us whether anyone is any good at the above. It’s generally more likely that someone with LI is familiar with raid mechanics, as it’s generally more likely that someone with 25k AP is familiar with dungeons, but it’s only a likelihood, not any sort of guarantee.

I would leave the party if someone tried to condi him down rather than just using his mechanic.
It would be pretty fast actually given how strong the meta condi builds are. You can legit do it if the team has the classes.
You can do it, but you shouldn’t. Even if you had 5 full condi guys in your pug it would still benefit you to take away his invuln and get the physical damage, since viper and sinister have power and precision on them.

You know, you could do something about this by updating the dungeon boss pages on the wiki. Not all of them explain stuff, for instance, Bjarl’s wiki page has absolutely zero information on it.
The problem with dungeons is that they haven’t kept up with the powercreep in the game. Dungeon mechanics used to be way more important than they are now, which is why new people aren’t learning them. They don’t have a need to learn them. They don’t need to know the mechanics to beat the paths, they don’t need to have perfect rotations to still pull off better DPS than used to be possible when the game was released, they don’t need to know all of the combo fields because they just aren’t as important anymore. They don’t know how to keep good boon uptime because their fancy elite spec farts out boons every other step. This is all on ANet, not on the players. If players needed to know this stuff to complete dungeons then players would still be learning all of it.

The mastery track unlocks with any raid encounter that gives LI. People either got carried through VG/Sloth or did Escort to unlock it. I know people with 176 MP who have never raided beyond their first VG kill.

Really? Because my average pug run on my PS is extremely smooth, and only lagging slightly behind speed runs when people actually listen.
And are we seriously going to start with the anti-necro bullkitten?
On a side note, most players are bad at this game. That goes for all games. Why is this still a surprise to anyone?
They do ?
I must not see them because the bosses get torched faster than a US runner vs Usain Bolt.

Sorry but PuGs are slower than 2013 speedruns, and sometimes slower than solos from now…

Dungeons have bosses? I thought these things were just trashmobs with a bit more health.
To be serious. Most Dungeon Bosses are so undertuned that even without powercreep you could kill them within 10-15 seconds ( with the potential to kill them even faster ). You could take 4 people who never saw a dungeon into it, tell them what to do, what skill to activate when and then see the boss melt. I did it a few times, was hilarious.
Kinda interesting how everyone is talking about the power creep … You were able to squeeze a very similar dps out of eles thiefs and in the past days guardians … The thing that changed it was the breakbar and its 50% dog increase when broken …
And on the other hand … Dungeon mechanics are less about bosses themselves … It’s more about mechanics like stealthing, using portals and stuff …
And I guess there are still some exp dungeon runners out there … But they are mostly organized in their own groups and would rather do a low an instead of taking a pug they have to carry …
It’s entirely possible that (depending on your timezone) you’re playing with people who don’t speak English (or other language), and also haven’t done dungeons before. Simply having a high MP simply means you have played a good amount of time after HOT was released – and after the “Golden age of Dungeons”. It isn’t an indication of playtime or play style.
