Dungeons = joke for low levels
All dungeons are doable at minimum req. level. I myself don’t quest after lv 35- i level up only on dungeons. Think of WvWvW as a mode for levels 80 which you can join faster (at any level) if you wish so.
…so i went for the AC dungeon described in my email, just to find out that all groups requirements for AC are level 80 (AC is just an example, any other non lvl 80 dungeon would do)…
Just finished a full AC run with a lvl 53 necro. Levelled my PvE useless mesmer through dungeons, mostly in guild groups but did pug more then i liked.
Didnt have a problem getting groups, got a few really bad pugs group but we complete all runs. My guild and i even got a good laugh when i join a group of 4 guys from the Luminati [LUMI] that kicked me after they stated that ppl that melee’ed bosses were noobs and that range did more dmg then melee.

I level up mostly from dungeons once I hit 30. My guild does dungeons every day, so we just do guild groups usually. We do take random people when we don’t have five though. We don’t care whether people are 80 or not. Most people by now have at least one character who’s 80 and should know how to play as part of a team, so it isn’t really a big deal. If other groups don’t want you because you aren’t 80, they probably aren’t very good at playing as a team.
In fact, I’ve even run with guildmates between 20 and 35 in AC explorable and the runs have always been very smooth. (All three paths in about an hour.) You just need to work together as a team. That makes much more of a difference than what level you are or what gear you have.
Add me if you have trouble getting into dungeons at low levels. My guild does dungeons 24×7 so we can just send you a guild invite too.
It’s doable when you meet the requirement. However, most teams want level 80’s because they DO have an advantage. More trait skills, runes/sigils, etc. You might get scaled up, but level 80’s do more damage and can take more hits. They make the dungeon easier and faster. That’s why everyone wants level 80’s, and I don’t blame them. It really is noticeable doing the dungeon with people below level 80.
at level 80 you can walk most of the story modes with one hand tied behind your back.
at lower levels it is a challenge.
I believe i have finished AC story mode with group around level 40+,
it is a community issue, not a game flaw.
I always have a worse time in a dungeon with lowbies. At level 80 things go smoothly, with a bunch of low levels the dungeons drag on, encounters are tough and, quite often, repair bills have to be paid. I still take lowbies with me from my guild, increasingly because FotM has caused the other dungeon communities to dry up, I take whoever I can get, but I am rarely happy to see a 35 in my group and I don’t even want to run when I have a full party, aside from myself, of people below 40.
I honestly don’t know what, if anything, can be done about it (or should be). It’s ironic that the less experienced you are, the harder the dungeon is (objectively) and the more experienced you are, the easier it is (from an armour, stats, traits). It really feels like it should be the other way around (harder challenges reserved for high level people) but that defeats the purpose of having levels and rewarding character development with power. It’s a price you pay for allowing access to “end game” content for the lower level players.
Actually i agree with TS that dungeons can be rather harsh for low-level chars and new players;
I had no-little problems now after completing dungeons a few times, but I must admit I was kinda shocked at its difficulty when I FIRST started AC as a lvl35 char with little exp – having to fight foes that are mostly ‘elite’ (silver circle), getting trounced by them and learning how the traps worked were painful.
I attribute it to the steep learning curve.
Me and my dungeon party did all the dungeons on lower levels (In blue/green some under leveled gear) just fine during the first month learning all the tactics ourselves. It’s just an elitist trend where unless you have full exotics lvl 80 gear it somehow makes you less skilled even though I’ve seen more level 80’s fail at dungeons than level appropriate people because they tend to listen to instructions or are on an alt with dungeon experience.
Not to mention there is actual communication in stead of dead silence and no rush and skip all the content. It’s why I tend to specifically ask for lower levels and new people to help them out and point out that I’m not skipping content.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
If someone requires you to be level 80 with full exotics to run a dungeon, chances are they’re terrible. It’s not necessary in the least to be totally decked out unless you expect to have to be carried.
That being said, I’ve run AC with a group of people between levels 25-30 (except me) and had no issues.
The dungeons are absolutely doable at their stated level requirement and usually have a path that’s easier than the others for groups that aren’t finely tuned. The issue is that now that the game has matured, more people are level 80 and the dungeons really are easier when you’re 80. So many groups prefer just to optimize with wanting everyone to be 80.
This isn’t the fault of those groups at all. It’s a problem with the game mechanics that cater to it and the lack of any tools that allow for “scrub” lowbie players to hook up with other players who aren’t trying to optimize.
At a minimum the game really needs a heavily moderated cross server /lfg channel where you could just “/lfg 40 ranger looking to start a lowbie group for an AC path 1 run” and reach a decent sized crowd.
You just gotta find a good group. It’s all about experiences in a dungeon. IF 80s are complaining about it, then they arent very good. My dungeon party (consists of two/three 80s including myself) has never turned down someone lower or someone who has never done it. Just the other night, stayed up way past midnight because 3 of our members werent 80, and never did any fractal so we had to run it through them and we wiped many times because they were inexperienced. It also didnt help that we had 2 of the worse fractals (for beginners) , the dredge and swamp. But we kept with it and finally did it. They even gave us our repair costs because they felt appreciative of us staying with them.
I am looking for a group to do Fractall too, because I want to complete Monthly Achievment. I am a lvl 50 Ranger. Tell me if you want to set up a group. Okay?

They do. It’s called gw2lfg.com and it works like a charm.

Unfortunately for lowbies, AC is easy money for level 80’s. Most groups want to finish each path in 20min or less so that only 2 foods are required for all 3. This doesn’t require all 80’s, but it’s the most efficient way.
When the game was new we did AC story with whoever were the people that responded to our requests first.
If you’re having problems joining a group because they want 80s, that’s fine. They’re not really there to run at level players through, they’re there because they’ve probably run it 50 times already and are looking to do it in the minimum time.
So in that case, start your own group. Advertise it on gw2lfg.com and say “low level players welcome” or something in the comments. You’ll get others that need to run it too and it’ll be fine.
Only time I’ve rejected someone because of their level is when they didn’t meet the minimum level requirements for a dungeons (like a level 27 in ac explore)
I’d keep trying to do dungeons if thats what you want to do. Just dont expect level 80s to be happy there is a level 30 in group. BUT you can join with other non-80s and run it to your hearts delite!
Ascalonian Catacombs, Caudecus’s Manor, Twilight Arbor, Sorrow’s Embrace: I’ve completed all of these dungeons, both Modes, at the required level with subpar armor and jury rigged Traits and skills. This was all a few months ago, in groups of mostly, if not all, characters of the same level as I. It was difficult, nowhere near impossible.
I do agree that these dungeons, especially AC, are definitely not beginner friendly. I’ve run AC more times than I can remember(4 toons with the AC PTV armor) and I can’t even remember how many people I’ve had to teach each dungeon path as we went on. The problem is that there is just one too many trash mobs, some with insane HP pools, and of course those horrendous scavengers that if you don’t have stun breakers/stability, you are absolutely screwed. Sure you can dodge it, but scavengers are NEVER alone, and you can only dodge 2 times before you have to wait until your endurance is refilled. To make things EVEN WORSE, those scavengers have INSANE hitboxes that can hit you even if you’re not near them. This has happened many, many times and it is incredibly annoying. So even if you dodge them, if you get anywhere near them you’re still screwed.
All dungeons are doable at their minimum requirements — it’s just that the “popular” PuG mentality is preferring the advantages of level 80 characters, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, since people prefer success as much as possible. If you really want to play dungeons to learn your professions and dungeons layout/mechanics, it can be much easier if you have a team of friends or a guild that you can run the dungeons with. You may find yourself spending less time looking for groups and more time playing with builds, learning the dungeon layout, etc.
I’ve been doing dungeons with my team since we were low leveled on our mains, and since then, we’ve taken alts at minimum level requirements at various dungeons. The dungeons are easily doable if you understand your profession and the layout/mechanics of the dungeon.
I feel that level is not a restriction once you reach about the minimum level of the dungeon requirement. While having a higher level does give you access to additional perks, your personal skill with your profession and the dungeon matters more. Most people want level 80s as a safety net because they’re trying to run with people that they don’t even know. I’d honestly prefer player skill over level, but that’s not always easy to filter. I play with a group that I can grow with, so that’s not a problem, anyways.
If this is something you really want to do, don’t give up. Someone out there will appreciate what you are determined to offer.
i did AC a few times at level 40-50 with no problems, no wipes group range between 40 and 80, with the right teamwork and communication, its not hard
The difference between a level 35 and a level 80 full exotic is huge.Like 2000 to 9000 huge on a Warrior Hundred Blades.
So you need to understand why people preffer level 80’s only.
