Hey all.

So yeah, I’m kinda new to GW/GW2 and still finding my way around, but I will say I absolutely love Fractals. I’ve got 4 lvl80’s, one fully ascended to run 1-79 (my level so far) and the others to play PVP and PVE.

In terms of me as a player, I would guess I kind of sit in the middle. I’m not really a min/maxer and certainly not skilled enough for any leagues or pro-content. I don’t play the game 10hrs a day. On the other hand, I normally get 2-3 hours in a day and much more at the weekends (in between married man duties and working) – so definitely not what I would class as a casual “pickup, play, leave” type.

I’ve seen a few posts in the forums talking about the death of dungeons and the lack of any new ones, the creation of Fractals, the new fractals allegedly coming through sometime this year and wanted to ask a couple of questions really on people’s views, insights, thoughts from what was here previously before I ever played if that’s ok?

Dungeons have always been a little arduous to me. Needing to get a good group, organised, understand the run, the multi-stage mechanics of the dungeon and having the mentality to understand a wipe is a wipe, start again – rather than whine and moan and leave the group (or worse, get kicked as you made a mistake). It can take a fair amount of time. If you look at an organised run and dry run for the likes of TripT you can easily invest an hour and often more for no result.

Whereas with Fractals, being mini dungeons, you can run a few of them in that time, learn the new techniques, have a change of scenery, play with different groups every run, etc. Different bosses (granted only 10 of them) and sure, they become relatively easy once you get to know them and their mechanics as well – but people are far more forgiving with a wipe or a issue than they ever where with dungeon runs.

So the questions are:

1) Has the move away from dungeons in to Fractals been made potentially from a corporate perspective within Anet that to design, create, release batches of new fractals been a time/money factor. Quicker to make and release over Dungeons, thus the push on these?
2) As a general player, is this really a bad thing? If you are a diehard Dungeon specialist, then sure, but in the same way for a diehard PVP’r you probably don’t care about Fractals. But from the “General Population” is it a bad thing?

Sorry for the long winded post, but as a newbie t the GW2 world, and being bored at work thinking about how I’m going to complete #22 Challenge after wiping 4 times last night with 2 different groups, it got me wondering ?

Have a good day all and maybe see you in Fractals.

I came, I saw, I continued watching as I’m a newbie…

Absolutely. And I quote.

‘There are no developers allocated to dungeons, nor will there be as far as I’m aware. Their corporate stance is that dungeons are unsustainable and that they will support Fractals as their end-game 5-man instanced content. It is, for better or worse, simply how it is.’

The original dungeon team left the company a long time ago, and none of the people who worked on that content since did much to improve on or fix them

2) As a general player, is this really a bad thing? If you are a diehard Dungeon specialist, then sure, but in the same way for a diehard PVP’r you probably don’t care about Fractals. But from the “General Population” is it a bad thing

Dungeons were the go-to content for people who wanted to run small group PvE content, and for all their ‘flaws’ dungeons offered a lot of content and unique rewards to players. From a general perspective, Anet’s decision to reduce dungeon rewards in order to discourage people from playing them simply means that everyone has fewer things to do in game. This is definitely a bad thing.

Thanks for the quote @Jahroots.6791

I hear what you are saying about the Dungeons. Same within ESO which I played a lot, the dungeons where good content – but it was their endgame. So they were quite long, well thought out, but turned up rarely in terms of new content. There is a massive amount of time invested in making just one.

I like what they have done with the fractals in here. The only thing I truly hate is the lack of dynamic actions in a lot of these instances. The Mobs are in the same place, Mossman stands at the same hut, etc. IT would be nice if things changed around a little in the instances. Keep people on their feet. Like when doing #10 – maybe have the fire demon bonus kill either stand at the bottom, walk up and down the bridge….I don’t know, but 3-4 different mechanics just to mix it up a little.
