Equipment stats for fractals.
Stats depend on team setup for the most part, and what your team does. If your team sucks then going full-zerker might not be the best choice as opposed to a Zerk/PTV mix, etc.
Here’s what I run for guard, other build’s differ ofc and people have their opinion/favorites but it’s a pretty solid setup for most teams.
I would probably stick with full glass stats myself if his party isn’t so hot. It means he won’t really need to depend on other people to do damage when he can just do it himself.
Q1: How comfortable are you playing your guardian?
Q2: Are you planning to PuG your way to 50?
If A1 is ‘comfortable’ or better, and A2 is no, then zerk all the way. Otherwise I would have a set of zerk armor and a set of PVT armor. Depending on the quality of group (and your personal performance) start with zerk and swap in PVT piece by piece to reach the necessary survivability for each group.
I have found that in 1-20 you often need to swap in PVT gear as average skill/experience level of players is relatively low. However starting from high 20s I had only few instances where I had to swap in any PVT pieces.
Pretend no gearset other than zerk exists. Even if you die a lot on your first couple/hundred/thousand runs, depending on how fast you learn, you WILL eventually reach a point where you are comfortable enough in zerk gear that anything else will seem unnecessary, both in pugs and guild groups.

^^
Even if you can survive better in PVT it’s going to take longer and you may run out of stuff anyways, prolonged death. And if you’re the last to survive doing no damage… it’s just kinda a waste of time. It’s one thing to pull out a solo with zerk, it’s another to take an hour to kill mossman while your whole party leaves.
Ideally, berserker’s gear is what you should aim for. If you’re not comfortable with the gear or find yourself dying a lot I recommend you pay attention to the following:
-Nourishment: There’s high sustaining food such as heal on crit that make a big difference
-Utility Food: Stones and oils work for most things but be sure to take advantage of potions based on the mobs/bosses you’re fighting.
-Build: Know what build to bring to the fight. Hammer builds are very high sustain as well as keeping up with DPS. Know when to bring walls, stability, or other utilities.
-Mitigations: Dodges, Blinds, Aegis, Protection, Invulnerability, etc. You are squishy and will require active defenses to mitigate overwhelming damage. Don’ be too selfish though as being a Guard means you bring supreme support to the rest of the team.
-Team Comp: Who are your team-mates? Are they running optimal builds? Are any of them named Leroy? Comminication is one of the best things you can bring to a run to make sure that everyone is covering and contributing appropriately.
For the most part, those guidelines will make it to where you can run Berserker for most content of fractals. If your team is less than ideal I would recommend you switch out a few traits or pieces of gear to help out. While faster kills lead to smoother runs the opposite is true of the players in that dead dps is no dps.
As others have said, work on the basics as you climb the fractal ladder. Pay attention to the big agony attacks the bosses have and other moves you believe you can save people from with aegis.
As you know, the first time you fight the legendary shaman, that fight can be dead easy when the group chains reflects.
stats wise, anything, its more how you use your skills
I literally play Warrior with Full Nomads and Runes of Mercy, speced for 30% increase in res time.
It’s amazing xD kitten the haters.
edit: I lie lol I play full nomad trinkets with soldiers weapons/armor
I only have 1 set of gear for all aspects of the game – zerker.
I pretty much only run 50 now and most of the time its a mix of gear types. and as long as it works I am happy. I don’t ask what ppl use. as long as they have the AR and skill to play the class I am happy.
I believe a lot of players use soldiers for fractals just because of how it works at 50.
again I don’t mind what they use as long as it works
Fractal lvl 80 – 126 AR
I have 4 characters setup for high lvl fracs. 2 of them run full Zerk but 1 has 3 armor pieces as Knights, another has 3 pieces of Celestial to use when I want; but thats about as ‘tanky’ as I’d ever suggest. The other 2 have a mix of Zerk/Assassin because.. engi/mesmer :P
