Evolved Destroyer, Path 3 CoE.
Since the changes my group usually avoids this path like the plague. It wasn’t’ difficult before, just tedious, and it’s not difficult now, just more tedious. But if we do run it, we all stand near the top with three on the lasers. When his shield goes down, we ALL run down and dps for a bit, then jump out, rinse and repeat. On my thief I usually run down one side of the platforms, then back up the other.
Now if only people would kill the destoryers before him (and the ones in SE as well) instead of skipping them so I could get more cores for my legendary
- Walking through the lair of the ultimate life form : the Champion Destroyer Crab. Run for your lives! Thank god this monster doesn’t try to take over the world or else we’ll all be doomed.
Your groups choice to not clear isn’t Anet’s fault. Don’t get me wrong, the Evolved Destroyer is an annoying, annoying encounter but the whole “let’s not kill things” on the res path for a fight in which you are likely to die is just poor planning.
You actually stop to kill the champion destroyer crab on the way? He’s immensely more dangerous and time consuming than the evolved destroyer. If you don’t die killing the crab, you should be fine on the boss.

I’m sure this has been reiterated a billion times already, but having high HP does not make the boss a challenge.
Mr Hrouda; do you know why people find this boss tedious? It is because it is without challenge. Setting back players for half an hour does not make this boss challenging simply because this boss can be defeated using bottom feeder tactics, standing at the top with 1500 range to pew pew pew his life away.
You’d get less complaints about the boredom and his hp if in fact, there was a mechanic that restored his during his shield mode. That would actually cause players to develop better organizational skills to defeat it rather than fall asleep using the easiest method.
Thats the problem with most bosses in this game; you’ve given people the opportunity to use bottom feeder tactics to beat a boss, and as such, most people will do that. Its ridiculous to say “oh you want this boss to be fun? L2play”. Bosses require a basic level of difficulty that weeds out bottom feeder tactics, and this will aid player satisfaction (feeling rewarded for defeating a difficult boss) and weed out issues of boredom and auto attack ad nauseum.
Can you auto-shoot on destroyer and watch porn?
Sounds like a challenge to me!

It did not go well…
Do you even lift, bro?
The boss isnt that bad, sure it can take awhile but it isnt bad.
We had a group of ranger, warrior, 2 mesmers, and an elemental. I was the elemental.
Our ranger just didnt have the dps we wanted to quickly take down the boss so the mesmers started thinking that if they could get a portal down there we would have an easy escape route or an easy way down. That is what we started doing. Drop the shield everyone runs down, mesmer pops a portal for a quick exit. Hit the boss with as much as you dare and portal out. If you miss the portal you have to find the stairs fast if you end up in the lava.
There were a few times I was glad that elemental’s can use the portals in mist form when they are down. It really saved me a few times when I got knocked off the platforms on my ways down. ( I wasnt paying attention to the pastern of the knock off blasts)
I did this with a PUG post-patch last night. One person ended up leaving partway into that room, no doubt after realizing that killing the boss would take some absurd length of time. Honestly, it was too long before, now it just makes people avoid the path. It’s a good thing they supposedly fixed path 1, or the only one people would even bother with is path 2.
and people are surprised why AC and CoF are the only dungeons anyone ever does (maybe some HotW thrown in there with Arah for the sadists).
i did my CoE for the achievement pre-fix and it was a horrible tedious experience all around. they did nothing to improve the actual “fun” of encounters – before the “fix” Destroyer was just boring, now it’s annoying on top of it!
oh, and path 1 wasn’t so bad. that’s one boss you could actually afk-shoot in there (by pulling him to previous room with the chest). took us 15 or 20mins of max-range afk shooting to get him down pre-fix. haven’t been back ever since.

AC and CoF are faceroll dungeons (8 minutes per path by a pug), I would expect something a bit more difficult from lvl 80 dungeon. Before fix, you could go away and make a cup of tea in the meanwhile, is this how harder content should be played? By being afk?

“Tedious” and “hard” aren’t necessarily the same. The evolved destroyer is tedious. Simin is was hard.

it’s only “8 minutes” if you’re on a turbo-charged skipping mode, and there’s no reason to skip optional bosses or money-dropping mobs.
i do expect dungeons to be a bit more challenging, however, there is a fine line between challenging and tedious. and so far all dungeon “fixes” only made paths more tedious.
if i can’t have a balanced dungeon and instead i have to choose between a face-roll one and tedious one then i’ll take the faceroll, thank you very much.

There are only three skippable packs in CoF1. Two trash packs no one gives a kitten about and an optional boss that drops kitten loot. Our group makes it in 7 minutes if the stones don’t kitten us over.
