My cleric guardian doesnt do much dps at all but I keep my party alive. There is more to the game than DPS, to say otherwise is ignorant.
The rest of us are talking about Guild Wars 2, what game are you talking about? This isn’t how we necessarily wanted it to be, but when ANET abolished what they considered the “holy trinity”, they designed the current classes to all be self-sustaining and generally survivable in any encounter. Nobody needs a cleric guardian to keep them alive, unless you’re accustomed to playing with very bad players who refuse to dodge out of red circles or evade obvious boss mechanisms.
It’s been demonstrated through countless video evidence that a party full of pure DPS builds with pure DPS gear (read: berserker) will out-perform anything else. Just look up the good meta builds and watch some speed runs of skilled players can accomplish. Insisting otherwise is tantamount to just admitting that you and your teammates are so bad that you need every crutch you can get to plod through content.
For what it’s worth, I’d love for ANET to note how the developers at SOE designed dungeons in Everquest 2 and incorporate the use of neglected aspects of the game such as proper crowdcontrol and positioning. However, until this happens, most of this game is currently designed around just DPSing down the mobs as quickly as possible.

it would be nice if they’d make a separate que for elitists and casuals.
I spend the better part of 2 hours guiding a group (each of them having less than 500 ach points) thru ac finish, log my warrior and head down to do arah and get kicked from not one but four groups because all their tag says is speedrun and no path number, zone in find out its one I don’t know and swiftly get the boot without even a chance.

They already said “speedrun”, they were expecting experienced members and a run within 15-20 minutes, not to guide a new member through a challenging path that may take them 2 hours. They have the rights to kick who did not read their LFG tag. I think you should go and read the stickied Dungeon FAQ instead of ranting off here. And if you think there is no way to run Arah without joining an ‘elitist’ group, go with a Teacher. They are more than pleased to spend time on you.

Just because its the highest DPS doesnt make it the best gear. If it was the best gear we wouldnt have other options and all gear would be zerker.

Mother of God… I thought this was a troll post since I often joke in party chat about cleric guardian being OP. But please baby Jesus, save my soul from having to read such a vile post….
To say a cleric guardian keeps me alive is ignorant. I’ll tell you what keeps me alive. Blinds/Reflects/Aegis(blocking)/Dodging/CC. It is definitely not a guard dodge roll healing me for 1k HP.

Each little bit helps, though.
That said, I’ve ran zerk from the moment I hit 80 and still run it on every character I play.
Now, on topic, I’ve never kicked a single person from a group because of their lack of experience. All I ask from someone is to already know the most basic game mechanics, such as Evading will negate damage without the need of moving out of that non-persistent AoE AND the ability to listen, watch and do.
I’ve ran dungeons with experienced and inexperienced people alike, and though most of the times the earlier outperforms the latter, I’ve come to randomly meet some of those previously inexperienced people in later runs and see them completely dominate whatever content we’re paired in together.
tl;dr I don’t mind inexperience as long as there’s flexibility, eagerness to learn and improve and proper observing skills.
Each little bit helps, though.
Not when they take a 60%(pulled this number out my kitten , but cleric to zerker damage is huge) damage reduction to achieve that….

Well, I’ve never ran Cleric’s or anything that’s not zerker before, so I wouldn’t know.
Unless it’s clearly a speedrun, I don’t mind as long as people can carry their own weight.

Interesting video obal made comparing Whirling Wrath with same buffs to see the damage differences. The cleric to zerker difference is funny.
Spoiler alert, its like 40k difference between meta zerker and cleric AH lol.

Well i can tell you about my whole experience leveling my guard in dungeons but it will take too long. So all I will say is some were painfull and some were great(Puged them all). Just know when your the only low level in the group and kitten goes wrong, you will be the 1st to get kicked unless you can prove your skill to all.
Actually brings back some good memories, melee TA boss while group range, finishing of AC boss p1 with staff ele, ect. kitten i love this game
(New changes should spice things up)
or kitten it up
Explain to them kindly why berserker is the best gear, why it is necessary and how they can play their game when they are alone, dont kick them because they have bad gear
Cant wait till they fix this. This game shouldn’t revolve around Berserker gear. enough said

There is always optimal gear in any game. Majority of pugs don’t even run zerker. Make your own groups in LFG “Any gear welcomed” and get over it.

And guess what, I don’t need to dodge. My build makes it so that I can constantly be in the boss’ face and wail on them with my hammer. Sure, call me unskilled. But i am playing a ROLE PLAYING GAME, and my character is assuming the ROLE of tank. That is why my gear is VIABLE. Zerker snobs are so annoying, and that’s why it got nerfed.

Are you sure your class is not necro and you use staff not hammer?

we actually got a huge buff in <80 dungeons
what Lawrencii said haha
but seriously having the best gear and skills equipped in the game actually lowers the required skill…Ironically the game gets easier when you hit 80…. like in that other mmo when id put best enchants on my boa and turn off xp to fill in the blanks with best in slot, then turn it back on so I could go smash, someone would say “you are good” reality is I wasn’t good , if I was I wouldn’t have needed the best stuff

GW2 doesn’t have tanks or healers. That was the only part of their manifesto the kept. Hate to tell you but you are playing the wrong game…. Also your gear is “viable” just terrible when compared to, oh say, UNDER 30 SECOND KILLS OF BOSSES. Seriously get off your high horse and look at the facts objectively. Your way of playing drags your team mates down. Stop being selfish and help your team with DPS, not being a hammer noob and putting light fields down so my ele can’t might stack. Last note, Zerkers were buffed in non 80 areas (ya know the majority of the game) AND we were hardly nerfed in 80 areas.

For the record: Posting “80 exp only” can be confusing to new players. To them it could very well mean you need to be level 80 and you are doing explorable paths only. Or maybe are focusing on experience points, who knows.
Type out “experienced players only” or “speed runners only zerk gear, must ping gear”. That will weed out any confused new players.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

In theory…. unfortunately
I think the issue is not confusion but people joining speedrun groups hoping for a free ride so we’re addressing the wrong thing here.
If someone joins a “zerk only speedrun” or similarly named LFG in full clerics bearbow gear, then either lies about his gear or just doesn’t say anything, he’s likely not confused, he’s probably just hoping to sneak through unnoticed. Someone who was genuinely confused would say “hey guys i just got this game last week, hope that’s okay, what is zerk” and then leave when he realizes he doesn’t qualify.
That’s why hard controls are necessary if we ever want to weed out the bads, because the bads will actively ignore whatever we write in the LFG regardless of how clear it is.
Hey, I found an uninformed post of mine.
Thanks, oh kind Necromancer.
Honestly, I don’t see how one or two new/low level players could be much of a weight to the party as in DPS and survivability. Yes, it is slower, but in fact, I’d pick a friendly, new to the dungeon player over an experienced guy who just rushes forward and abandons the party at the first wipe, any day.
A few days ago we ran pt1 in AC with a guildie for 3 guys who were under level 50; Yes, it took us over 1 hour but the challenge was worth it at the end and the guys were super nice so I don’t regret it at all. I don’t care about your gear and build as long as you listen if you’re new or you follow the party if you’ve been in the dungeon before.

Sorry, meant to say that I don’t see how one or two low level players could be much of a weight to the party. Still on my first coffee cough
Oh I’m a dungeon master myself. We should have a meeting sometime and talk about mastering them dungeons.

One or two? weight? I would say it depends on the group make up. If it CM and they are the reflects classes mesmer/guard //// or condition removal mesmer/guard then survivability can be greatly impacted. I find “carrying” people is easier when I (the more experienced person) is playing a prof that can control the battle.
Also I think you do care. I mean youve never said something akin to " Hey can you slot wall of reflection/feedback/banner of X/ pls? It would help us out greatly?" Though ofcourse you may be one of those baller types. Im a “scrub” so I cant solo much myself and people can actively screw me over.
Take the ending of SE storyyesterday afternoon. Everything ok then I notice most of party very low and then I see them bum rushing me. I cant stop to type then the w0orms get in range and permaimmob me then lazers= dead.
