I posted this on the reddit forums with a great response. Was asked to post here as well.

Currently we have a system that is not favorable for the majority of guilds and friends who enjoy content together when talking about explorable dungeon runs. The heart of the problem is that there is a limited number of stat setup choices for gear and each dungeon offers only a particular stat combo.

Say for instance we have a guild of friends that all have thier eye on a different stat combo. We have a couple choices when pursuing that combo and only 1 path leads to that group of friends playing together: The Orr DE karma grind for deity specific armor (and most of these are 4 stat combos as opposed to the other options). The other 2 options are crafting or explorable dungeons.

Crafting is fine, it gives solo players an opportunity to get BiS and combine them with the look they want. But Explorable Dungeon tokens actually forces groups to split up and PUG content. There should be a way to gain the tokens you want while still keeping the dungeon specific token in-game for those that think that certain tokens should be used for specific dungeon sets.

A good middle ground IMO would be to leave the BONUS first clear path run tokens as they are (specific to the dungeon). But change the chest/boss tokens to a generic token that can be used for all vendors or “converted” for a percent loss exchange. That way specific tokens mean something and you actually do have to run more of that dungeon to gain the actual dungeon set. This works for longer time invested but less of a grind feel, while being able to play all dungeons and paths with friends.

Example: You complete CoF. By doing so you would get 10 bonus CoF tokens like you do currently for each path. But the 20 tokens you get from the Bosses you could exchange at a lower rate. Such as 2:3 conversion for all tokens, so 20 tokens as opposed to 30 overall, or 2:1 on just the boss tokens with bonus staying the same. This keeps the rate of gaining sets close to the same, the idea of having to run the dungeons that correlate to the set you want and giving the opportunity for friends and guildies to run together while everyone getting a rewards they are seeking.

I just can’t think of a better way to get people to try to run multiple dungeons with the current rewards for the masses not being worth it. It encourages running multiple paths and the only thing that would need adjusted is dungeon difficulty which ANET has shown they can do very quickly. No reason not to have something like this; unless playing with friends and multiple gear grinds are what is favored.

I agree with this completely. This is definitely one of the few things that WoW had nailed down with its unified token system.

Absolutely love this suggestion. I really want the Honor of the Waves gear, but I can’t find any groups willing to do it, and with how much of a repetitive boring drudge the story mode was, I can’t blame them.

Pretty good input here, Sir.

The uproar about all of this has been sizable enough that I’m very curious what A-net has to say about it over the next few days. I personally still feel things are in a “tweeking” phase. So we’ll see!

I would rather they reduce token costs, if anything.

The problem with combining all the tokens into one Dungeon Token is that the many armor sets will cease to mean anything. People will pick the easiest dungeon to farm and farm enough tokens to get the set from the hardest dungeon. So you’ll have people walking around in X set without having even set foot in the dungeon itself.

While it might seem silly to view these sets as mastery of their respective dungeons, if we don’t have something like that, fewer people would be inclined to do the harder dungeons. It would be standard for a fresh 80 to farm whatever easy dungeon is popular at the time until they receive enough tokens to get whatever set they want. It would make it more difficult for people to find groups for those other dungeons.

Imagine if all the tokens that people farmed in CoF could have been used on Arah or CoE or whatever other dungeon.
