Explorer dungeons are way too hard!
“We didn’t manage to kill the last boss in the end.. The boss kept buffin himself all the time. And I know that we must kill the mobs so he dosen’t buff himself. We tried MANY times, but it was impossible.”
Wait what.
That’s not the final boss as far as Im aware.
Jotun final boss doesnt buff himself.
Mursaat doesnt either
There’s not even one on warden.
I cant speak for seer, but I cant imagine any group getting past simin having trouble with any other boss.
If you mean lupicus then you should know that there are plenty of strategies for him, most of which are documented on the forum. Also you can totally knock out warden/forgotten path in a little over an hour with a good team.
I think you may want to go back down to doing CoF and HoTW for a bit. Those are much easier and shorter dungeons. Once you have a feel for those dungeons give arah another try.
I agree, but I think many won’t. Perhaps they can make some dungeons a two party effort and give more badges if 1 party does it.
So, you expect to beat something the first time you do it? Also you expect to get rewards for not beating the end boss?
Sorry but lots of people in the other MMO when it came out for years couldn’t beat bosses in certain 5-10 man dungeons.
The last thing ANet needs to do is ‘NERF’ content because players don’t have the skills or teamwork to beat it. This is exactly the same thing that happened with the other MMO.
When you make content EASY, then the accomplishments are greatly reduced. That other MMO tanked hard as soon as they started making content 1) quick to run 2) easy to beat 3) grindy. In the early days of it…if you couldn’t do a 45 min baron run..oh well. If you couldn’t beat Dire Maul…oh well. If you couldn’t beat UBRS, oh well. Then they started catering to the baddies. And we’re not talking about a raider here. All my guild ran were 5-10 mans. But you could see that the game started catering to the below average player in difficulty and thats when you lost people.
There ‘has’ to be a difficulty…otherwise people get bored and don’t feel like they’ve accomplished something.
EASY doesn’t mean ACCESSIBLE. That other MMO got them confused. Accessible means exactly what ANET did…which is the top content being no more then 5 players. After that it’s up to you to beat the difficulty.
Dungeons also should be somewhat long. If you don’t have an hour or two to do them, then that is what dailies are for. Games can’t make everything quick and easy.
The 4 hours you spent sounds honestly like you and your group were not that good of players or didn’t work well together.
That isn’t a ANet issue.
Sounds like you need to improve on your game play and also teamwork.

i have yet to understand why make the only challenge this game offers easier.
i love challenge, this is what keeps me going. the ENTIRE game is easy. the dungeons are the ONLY challenge i have, and yet some people wish to take it away. i love the fact that it is difficult. it should be difficult. only those that are capable should succeed. it requires effort and planning to succeed. knowing other’s skills and work together can really make every encounter a lot easier.
in the end every single PVE challenge has it’s “solution” it’s a matter of finding it. with every party composition the solution exists.
i think that if this specific dungeon is too hard for you try the other dungeons. which are less challenging. play with friends practice with guildies, study each other’s capabilities and then achieve success.
walking around with full Arah set is not for everyone. that’s the beauty of it, when u see someone walking around with it you know he made the extra effort of both time and good planning and teamwork.
please don’t take the only challenge the game offers from those who cares about it.
Some are slightly too hard I believe, perhaps they take into account having full traits. These dungeons do take hours to complete and right now you don’t have medium difficulty. You have only easy and omg-hard-i-want-to-go-to-bed mode. Easy gives no tokens to collect armor and hard is not really accessible for some dungeons for most people and you will only get tokens in the end.
It comes down to practice, coordination, and understanding the boss abilities. Its always frustrating at first, but when you keep doing it, it becomes simple.
Hopefully they make things A LOT harder.
Would be the best thing for the game.
That other MMO in the first 3-6 months was great. Stuff was hard. Even the world quests and mobs were hard. Dungeons were hard to beat.
As soon as you start nerfing stuff down, is when the game starts falling apart. If people can’t beat it, then they should try to outgear it, etc. They shouldn’t nerf ever.
What they need to do is really make things hard enough where you cannot just ‘zerg’ it or dps it down without strategy and good teamwork…especially some support and control.

I hope we get ‘progression’ dungeons at end game where you need to beat Dungeon A to move into Dungeon B and beat Dungeon B to do Dungeon C, along with needing the gear from each. Would be great and show the better players from the average ones.
Unlike the other MMO, they used 20-40 people and massive hours to determine who could see content. The best was when these raiders couldn’t even beat a 45 min Baron run because many were carried.
Alright so when does a boss become too hard according to you?
When average Joe with his band of Average Men cannot complete it?
There’s too many threads about Arah already so I can only say one thing:
Phase 2 is where people wipe.
Phase 2 is where literally all his attacks can be dodged.
Pretty much all classes have at least one skill that gives them something to aid in dodging/surviving the attacks in phase 2.
Learn to dodge, learn what skills you might be able to use against him, learn to make good decisions during the fight. (Such as when to rez people)
It’s a thought process that doesn’t require much thinking.
Good Luck.
It’s interesting that you specify ONLY Arah in your post yet your title includes “Dungeons” implying ALL of them. I think you’ve drawn your conclusion from one path of one dungeon. And honestly it’s a shame that you would quit after one bad experience.
Arah isn’t the only dungeon in the game worth doing (it’s the highest level, but that in itself is kind of arbitrary), since you can get L80 exotic gear from any dungeon.
By the way, gear doesn’t weigh as heavily into the equation of success in this game… nowhere near as much as it does in some other MMOs.
Have been following the dungeon discussions for awhile now. I have tried a few of the lower level dungeons while at level that was required for them. Or perhaps a few levels hire. It was a really rough go and even had to stop doing them because I couldn’t afford to keep paying to have my gear repaired.
So I tried the other day to find a group for CM at level 57. Had no luck and the only real response was that you really need to wait till you are level 80 to do dungeons. I guess I just really don’t understand the scaling system in any way. So think I’m just going to give up and perhaps at 80 they will be a bit more doable.
Only thing I’m sharing here is my experience. It isn’t as much a complaint or a disagreement with the OP. Just sharing what my personal experience has been.
And I suppose for the record I should state I’m a casual unskilled and not very knowledgeable player. I figured I just put that right out there since that is where these discussions usually end up. The “suck less” response or “you don’t know how to play a video game” reply.
But love everything outside of dungeons that I’ve seen. Everything else has been a lot of fun to play with.
I haven’t run a dungeon yet. How do you get L80 gear on any dungeon? The Loot is scaled to your level in all of them? Like AC (level 30 or 40 from what I recall) can still drop 80 gear if your real level is 80?
“The dungeons are also too long. Look at WoW for example. The dungeons are short and not too hard. Please Anet, make the dungeons easier and shorter. And make more dungeons as well. I love doing dungeons, but not when they are too hard and too long.”
No, don’t look at WoW, don’t make dungeons stupidly easy. Fix the bugs, fix the overtuned enemies, maybe lower trash health. Make the ‘afk’ bosses harder with diverse mechanics.
If its too hard then get better. I log on each day to run dungeons, some of them are too easy already, but if ANet nerfs CoE (exception: evolved destroyer) or Arah or any of the difficult ones, I’m out. The challenge is fun. Every new boss is like a puzzle. So if you cant figure out the mechanics you aren’t trying hard enough, you aren’t communicating, or your or your team is just inept.

Yes, I get 75-80 gear every time I run AC.

you dont need to be level 8- to have succeed in dungeons. i have no characters which are level 80 and i have succeeded AC exp 4 times on path 3 (the burrows path on lovers chamber).
in order to succeed all you need is to understand the encounter. learn the abilities of your party members. request changes from them and think together about a solution.
i succesfully did the above dungeons with 2 guardians, ranger, engineer, warrior.
also succeded with 2 guardians, ele,2 mesmers. also with a 1theif,guardian, 2 warriors, 1 necro.
for every party the “solution” for the same problem was different. after retries we succeeded.
when you pu thought before the hard encounter itself. take the time to explain everyone how and what they should do. maybe even switch skills if needed, this planning procsses usually saves time, and deaths and n the end money.
there is no need for lvl 80. did all the above when only two each time were 80. and one of those 80 really had no clue what to do and took skills which didnt fit the encounter. after explanation and understanding and the guy switch his skills up and learned when to use them to the party’s advantage.
and of course we won. lvl 80 is not needed.
I’ve completed every route of every dungeon in the game and have the title to prove it. Was it hard? Sure. But it was also very rewarding. I’m not saying the dungeons are perfect – any Arah packs with multiple Illusionists are not fun – but they take time and patience, to learn strategies rather than just tanking and spanking your way to easy exotics. I get my rewards – my titles and my gear – through persistence, skill and teamwork, and that’s just the way I like it.
Its easy if you are know what you are doing. You cant expect to steam roll a lvl 80 explorer dungeon on first try.

Eh, more important than levels is experience. I took my level 52 Thief in CM explorable for back to back runs the other day and they went quite smoothly. I may not have done as much damage or been quite as strong as opposed to if I had ran it with my level 80 Warrior, but I still contributed quite a bit. I played more on the defensive end putting up lots of blinding fields, pulling with wire, and granting AoE stealth and regen.
Instant blocklist and “ISM dude” nickname for them when I see someone requesting
“only 80’s” it’s completely unwarranted and very stupid imho.
A player who’s 80 in full exotics, will perform a little better, but if they’re bad’s they will still be bad. Gear isn’t as important as strategy, skill and builds in GW2
everyone should have some way of debuffing an enemy anyways, thieves have bountiful theft etc
