This video is posted on another forum thread, but I wanted to make a whole new topic for it. This is a run that shows on my timer 5:418 so youtube rounds that to 5:42, but this by what I am aware was the fastest time ever.
This run and post is all about what CoF is to my group can do and we think we can do better. Also learn a lot about how to really mes guys, this is how it is done!
I’m pretty sure he stopped caring.
And I’m also pretty sure not many people care about who can clear CoF p1 the fastest anyway.
Tahnakai Temple SC anyone?

Its not about what others care about its about, what we can do. My group and many other groups try to have the best score time and what not for anything that can be measured by that. Also its an accomplishment whether or not you or anyone else cares.

The kittenstorm that thread caused with some players (me included) was pretty funny.

By all means, go for it. I see you also changed you thread title, which makes it a lot more sensible now.
But eventually, you’re going to be nitpicking about seconds or less with this… Also, I don’t see this dungeon path as a record, since it’s such a joke of a path. Not that I’m saying I could do it faster than you, I just hate the path.
Congrats. Not much else to say.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but 5:42 is no where near the fastest, its actually considered a mediocre group for that time. I regularly run under 5 mins from gate being blown, while playing on my guardian. I have a video posted a few months ago(post quickness nerf), recorded with a 5 min 17s(still slow).
I will probably record a new video of a clear of under 5 mins, yet again on my guardian. I am sure most of the people who run this path, think you can’t speed clear with anything other than wars(although atleast one probably needed for banners), mes & the occasional theif.
The people who say who cares, don’t farm the dungeon. The people who speed clear care, because they run it all the time, and optimizing yourself with traits & max gear(6 ascended, full zerk & right sigils/weaponsets) make it entertaining to see that time invested in your character pay off. It is one of the few places to test your dps.
Most have never received a 1 token(near 5 mins or under) reward from speed clearing this dungeon, although you get less tokens & silver, its desired, and a goal setter for enthusiast.

OP’s video is faster than you altered dimension, they took 4:45-4:46 to clear the run (discounting the gate).

This path can be done fast fast with guards, eles, rangers anything really. We can do a run under 5mins if we start the timer after the path select. But then you are wrong because that is not the whole dungeon run. Link your video and then we’ll see if it compares to mine. Must start timer from entry gate where the armour repair is
Ok my bad, initially thought you started at gate blown, as most people do when they time videos as not everyone uses the ferrah glitch, or ports her. You could have knocked off a few seconds from porting ferrah btw, now someone will beat your time just based on that :P. Just noticed two of the people in your group I run with normally as well .
Quote:But then you are wrong because that is not the whole dungeon run. Must start timer from entry gate where the armour repair is. You minas well time an hour run if this is the case then, to see how many take breaks, how long it takes for you to kill slave driver with no TW, find a non contested server, & selling ect. You could be faster than other groups, but you could also be generating less money if you’re not proficient with your off time.
I think the real question is how consistent do 2 thieves run this path at 5:42. Thieves mixed with the meta (war/mes)have the potential to run this the fastest(its nice to see thieves proficient at least in one dungeon) , but that doesn’t mean much if its not consistent. I saw shadows video, and it was so badly edited (due to failing on other parts) you couldn’t get a grasp on their real time. All its takes is one person to die on effigy to mess up your time(or somehow a few die on acolytes). With any thief though, you basically have to sacrifice a HB on a war, to bring a bow for might(as they lack party might). “Might” be something to think about.
Nikaido.3457 I normally kill slave driver way before TW ends, reason for that was cause I poped tome for zealots thinking tw was on CD, preventing me from getting a few extra attacks in. Like I said, my old video was just the one time I decided to record it. Not everyone in that party was using an axe off set, most with not even one ascended piece of gear.
I would have to re record another, now that I run with better people, and am more knowledgeable about it myself. Donno if it will beat 5:42 from entering, i’m sure under 6 mins tho, which is fine with me.

2 thieves is only what we do for timed runs really, if we farm with 2 thieves we average around 6min runs because we have no TW and use different foods, less caring about specs etc. But for our attempts at timed we make sure everyone is ready before we start. We had 6 attempts I believe and 3 trials. We beat our previous record on first attempt but 5:42 was our best. We are gonna record again soon and hopefully drop down to 5:35

If you use any food other than Omnomberry Bar, it isn’t an accurate speed clear time, but it would def help to break records if that’s your only intention.

Congrats on your time. Altered: time starts from the start of the dungeon, not magg blowing the door. This is how speed runs for cof have been measured for months, and it is the standard.
Congrats on your time. Altered: time starts from the start of the dungeon, not magg blowing the door. This is how speed runs for cof have been measured for months, and it is the standard.
Measured by some, not by others. If you watch youtube videos of speed clears, half the videos start on magg blowing the door(for months), other half when gate opens at start of dungeon. No one can say which is the standard, it may be the standard for your groups.
Most of the many differnt players I have encountered, in the many months I have been farming this dungeon, have timed from magg, its a preference. Its just preferred by most people I’ve met, to time at mag blowing door, as there are usually some scragglers either selling, no prompt, dungeon entering errors, or afk. Its also not a test to see who can bugg ferrah fastest. Not every mes portals ferrah, and not everyone first up to the cut scene even knows how to bug ferrah.
If you’re going for a full accurate dungeon run time, people should start timing their video as soon as the 1st person enters the dungeon, till the last person exits and you’re back in Fireheart Rise.
So you can have your standard, ill have mine, don’t tell me its how the majority of people time their speed runs, cause its simply not true.

Something weird about your video is that you got a better time despite having much slower kills. I saw it, you didn’t even kill the slave driver in one time warp, OP’s group is much stronger DPS wise.
edit : actually, OP’s video not from gate like yours. They did have better times too if you count from gate.
Listen to Nikaido, he knows what he’s talking about.

To be honest, when counting a record, it should be counter from when the path is selected/starts, given that you didn’t glitch anything in preparation, but we need to trust people for that. We always had to trust people for records back in GW1 as well.
However, I agree that for CoF, you count the time from entering the dungeon, because the whole point of a CoF record is that it’s a farm run. It’s not like an Arah record which you will be optimizing for speed.
But, then again, since there isn’t a well established record community like there was in GW1, the standards are pretty vague… It all has to do with the fact that records here give little room for special tactics, since they’re all just linear paths that are a “run to boss, kill, run to boss…” setup. Much like EotN dungeons in GW1, but very unlike UW and FoW (and to some extent, DoA)
I agree that in theory should be counted from the dungeon pre-event since that is basically the starting place for the dungeon. However, this method has drawbacks.
Doing that means there’s more luck involved in a low time and these runners are trying to reduce variation as much as possible to be able to get a “fair” comparison. The influence of chance and luck are values deeply ingrained in GW2. The unpredictable makes competition exciting and spur the fun, endless discussions of a crazy play we all love. I like luck and this approach, but it doesn’t make speed clearing for a record any easier.
Well no one cares about how fast you can do your whole setup for a single run of path 1. Like Bright said, the point is farming it for an hour or more, so how fast your team is at getting to Ferrah and having the gate open is integral. I’d say at the very least the standard should start at the first gate opening, but even better I’d say it should go from Point X in run 1 to Point X in run 2. Preferably after the slave driver so discrepancies from having/not having TW get smoothed out.
(Also weeds out Hounds of Balthazar users )
I don’t give a kitten about the most runs in some time, i care about the fastest single run time. Thats how records have been in gw1, noone was able to continuously do 14 min uw’s (we had some 15’s in a row tho), but still the 14 was an impressive achievement.
Time should be taken from when everyone connected and is able to move till reward.

Since the two groups who have ever had the record (our guild and Shadow’s team) measure it that way, I would say that is the correct way to measure it. How a bunch of scrubs with slow times on youtube measure it is irrelevant.

Well, how do you feel about other dungeon paths? Seeing how you usually started videotaping those when the path was selected or about to be selected. I know those don’t count as records, but it’s similar.

Ugh typed a long thing that got deleted.
tldr; when strife recorded those runs the goal was to be efficient guides, not speed run records. Except for CoF1 and Lupicus where the goal was to actually break or establish a record.
Jeez, this again? I didn’t know people still cared about 2 or 3 seconds.

Yeah it’s crazy. There is a wild concept called a ‘race’ where people try to compete to do things faster than each other. Strange I know, but it’s true.
As builds, strategies and execution become more refined, the records will be broken by smaller and smaller margins. Most likely anet will buff and nerf certain things which will lead to new breakthroughs.

So the fact that the self proclaimed best youtubers (how they’re the best yet have time to make all these videos I’ll never know) measure something a certain way means that’s the best way to measure something. That’s an interesting thought because it defies logic. If the measurement and your guild were so good, why are people questioning it, hmm? Subtlety is lost on some, I guess.

Weird.
@Chopps: Who says DnT isn’t (wasn’t?, heard something of falling apart) a good guild.

Good point. I forget it was Dungeon Race 2: Stroke your kitten here.
I might upload a video with a bunch of cuts explaining builds and how we handle each part, but in a week or so we are going to widen our margin and hopefully get under 5:40. Everyone who watched the video keep in mind, that we have no voice coms as it is a guild established of players found on LFG or through friends. I put what I believed to be the best team together for our run. That being said only myself and Shadow are guaranteed in the next video.

Making videos is easy and fast, anyone can do it. As far as the measurement goes, the only people who originally cared about the record decided amongst themselves how to measure it as there is no higher authority to issue a dictate.
The real reason bads measure from magg blowing up the door is because to go faster in the initial portion requires a modicum of team work and coordination.

@Chopps: Who says DnT isn’t (wasn’t?, heard something of falling apart) a good guild.
DnT doesn’t use rangers in our speed runs so Chopps doesn’t like us. Oh well.
We did this with 5 mesmers. With Signet of Midnight, Blink, Portal and Time Warp we were able to finish it 3 minutes before we actually started, which meant we didn’t need to bother. So we went to the pub instead.
OK to all you people complaining about ‘why do people care’ or ‘only a few seconds’ well that is the whole point of it. CoF P1 has sort of become a competition in it’s own right, no one wants any sort of competition to have massive margins between the leader and 2nd place, that takes all the challenge out of it, the same thing applies here ok, so stop kittening about ‘oh only a few seconds difference’ or whatever please, go somewhere else.
