FoTM Shaman Boss
The boss isn’t in line with the other bosses of its level, thats where the issue is. Its much more difficult which means, in my eyes, it needs nerfed. Just bad game design to have one boss of the same sets of dungeons that is brutal compared to the others.
That said, you could always roll a guardian makes life much easier.
you have a very good point when you say “the boss isn’t in line with other bosses.”
and I have a 30 AR Gaurdian in here, LOL
This one really can’t be glitched like most other final fights. Funny how this is the one a few people choose to complain about.
This boss is the 2nd fastest final fight in fractals, there is nothing wrong with it other than weeding out people who can’t dodge and who can’t play as a team. It’s a good gate to keep the higher level fractals free of unqualified players.
Lower the height at which the shaman flies ; offset the Y-axis so our character will be a bit closer to the bottom edge of the screen ; move the target window or make it less opaque ; display boons/conditions over the shaman rather than under the target window.
Reflect is going to be your friend on this boss.
It’s a kitten of a fight, but some things I’ve learned:
- Immob or slow him the moment he bubbles. If he gets to the human, that’s a good amount of progress undone.
- When Grubs spawn, Reflect, Reflect, Reflect. Take them out as a group before you focus on shaman again.
- When he turns to you, that’s a sign it’s time to dodge the agony arrow
There’s probably other strats, but that’s all I can think of right now. It’s a pain of a fight, but doable with a good group. That said, I’ve had several groups wipe here, and wouldn’t complain if it was softened a little.
Condition removals and cc breakers. Grawl potions and other food.
Make the other bosses harder instead, please. This boss is one of the few good things about Fractals (and in-game) for challenge-seekers.

There is no challenge here.
You stay at range so his arrow misses all the time while you strafe, and when he’s about to shield you just drop a chill and send the guardian to pull mobs in and the mesmer laysdown a feedback, time warp if the aoe is slacking.
It’s not a hard boss. It’s just a PuG destroyer because it requires a specific approach — and pugs don’t do specific or have the guarantee of a guardian to pull kitten in.
Nothing needs to be changed about his agony attack. The only problem is the lava elementals he spawns (imo)

My response is primarily philosophical because I think you are trivializing the difficulty of an encounter by claiming that skill nullifies challenge, which is incorrect.
Just because you and I and others can beat a boss doesn’t make it easy or without challenge. No matter how much you know a fight, if the fight is challenging, you slack off and you will die. That’s a part of it being challenging. I have beaten some very high level FotM Grawl bosses, and they are without a doubt challenging. Even for good teams who “know the perfect strategy and have the perfect team setup”, they have to pay close attention and not make mistakes if they are to win. Make no mistake that that is a challenge, regardless of your or my success or your or my strategy.
tl;dr: Don’t mistake a good group succeeding at an encounter as a case for that encounter not being challenging.
