FotM, Guard or Mesmer
If there’s a Revenant in your party: Mesmer
Or else: Guard
I did not use Dragonhunter. Chronomancer is always useful but guardians can give the group aegis and can heal a decent amount if no druid is present. You need it in lvl 94. Also, guardian breakstuns/shouts are so valuable, especially in random condition levels (ex lvl 64).
As a dragonhunter in fractals as well as a revenant, It honestly depends on what you are most comfortable with and your style of play.
I find that I do enjoy guardian for mid level fractals since you don’t really want to use fury 41-50 due to the instability that buffs enemies when you crit. At higher levels I’ve switched back to revenant though since their dps and team utility is no longer kitten since they can use fury.
Mesmer is always great though and you cannot go wrong with chronomancer. Reflects + alacrity
In the end they are just two totally different styles so go with whatever is more fun and comfortable to you
Before HoT it was guardian over mesmer for normal daily runs. The reason for this was mainly the ability to give aegis as well as facetanking bosses with blocks.
Now with HoT, bosses aint do damage anymore, so the main reason why you took a guard over a mesmer, is gone. This together with the strong chronomancer as well as the illusion changes (it’s been a while) makes mesmer prolly worth more than guard.
Especially for the boonstrip instability it might be better, but yeah, at the end the difference might not be that high and no one really cares about lineups at the moment anyway.
Is it guard or mesmer? Or is it mesmer and a guard if you really need it? Cause chronomancer gives out tons of quickness/alacrity as offensive buffs.

After rolling all the way to 100 as a guard, I would say go Mesmer. You have to be extra careful with a guard, as well as change up your build to minimize the amount of Retaliation you give out. That means no Vitures line, no Stand Your Ground, no GS 4, no hammer blasting on light fields, etc… Retal was the number one reason for my group getting wrecked; as the enemies would just steal if from the party and you’ll end up killing yourselves.
Ah yes, I forgot about boonstrip
Now that dragonhunter is beast… bring mesmer ;p
I used to run Guard n War the most way back when, but as I did more n more 50’s, I found running my mes far more helpful to the team, and more fun in general for myself.
Plus, almost everyone has and can run a guard already.
