Fractal Avengers
its true many classes can espace with downed 2 but thats is not always the case. some time even tho you moved away you can still be stomped by the avenger the idea behind thenanevger is not the player him self reposition or cc the avenger its more about they team responding to the anger ressing the player fast or ccing. For the coordinating part ppl tent to get blind when doing fractals so they dont see what you say and suggest in chat so coordination is hard big example ia that ppl dont wp the wisps at swampland and at the 25% phase they run like headless chickens.
I don’t find Fractal Avengers difficult to deal with, since downed #2 on every class deals with them. They’re a simple addition that adds a little depth to fractals.
What I don’t understand is how people actually get stomped by them. Maybe it’s my muscle memory from wvw, but it seems really easy not to get stomped. And yet, 2-3 times a week with pugs I see someone actually get stomped.
I could find a group, but coordinating a group of people to be on at the same time is a hassle. I only do fractals to feed my nasty wvw habit’s desire for ascended gear. I just can’t understand how after being exposed to it once anyone could actually be stomped.
Not everyone is as good as you are?
There are lots of mechanics that seem easy to me. I’ve tried a variety of methods of helping others to understand them and… well, often I’ve had more success herding actual cats. At the same time, there are some mechanics and rotations that I just can’t seem to get — I can’t really explain why, since they aren’t conceptually challenging; somehow, my brain just doesn’t want to understand.
Sometimes it’s physically impossible to avoid getting stomped. Imagine this scenario: a warrior and an ele go downed near each other at the same time. Ele goes into vapor form and escapes. Warrior then CCs his avenger, but gets immediately stomped by ele’s avenger that wasn’t CCed. Now tell me… was there any way to avoid that? Every class is given means to avoid their own avenger, but you might not be able to deal with other people’s avengers should they go downed.
Other people’s avengers may be a substantial problem, but at least as a mesmer it’s simply random whether you can avoid your own or not. When RNGsus hates you (more often than not), #2 will simply port you half a metre to the other side of the avenger and you still get stomped.

There are multiple situations in which you can not avoid being stomped. You could be blinded (maybe even in a blind field), it could be your 2nd time down in a short time, another players avenger finishes you (could even be “instant” if the other player got rezzed by you and you get downed the moment he got up), a mob stands between you and your avenger and your projectile hits the mob, you can not teleport (thief + bad floor) and more.
Also if you are going by memory, dont forget that it was impossible for elementalists to avoid being stomped till the last big patch as a new avenger spawned when their #2 skill ended. Of course now they are the class with the best change to avoid being stomped, they can avoid any number of avengers independant of the ground situation (if their cd is up).

i agree and i can relate with the struggles.
It would depend a lot on your class, your current condi’s, and whether or not you’ve been recently downed (skill cd’s).

Before the patch, when vapor form spawned a new avenger, I managed to get two teammates stomped in my place a few times

I wish I’d thought to try this. Unfortunately the people I usually do fotm with don’t down often enough for me to get 2 at the same time..

Warrior has one of the worst downed #2 skills. If a mob gets on the way, the hammer toss it will hit the mob even if the Avenger has been targeted. Easiest one should be AoE’s like Guardian or Ranger. Mesmer and Thief may have bad luck/timing press #2 as soon as they go down and appear next to the Avenger.
On other scenarios, players won’t focus the Avenger but a mob that is about to die to rally and get stomped in the attempt.
People will keep getting stomped in FotM and, sometimes, it won’t have anything to do with skill or being a good/bad player. it’s just a variable that is made to punish you when you go down and might work sometimes.
If other members of your party are getting stomped, it sounds like you were the one who failed to save them.
