I also had 1 more mace but I accidentally salvage it as it was my first fractal weapon I ever got (at my 1st 48). Nearly every one of those 103 relics are from frac 38 or 48, maybe MAYBE 5 are from something else. Yet that is all the skins I’ve gotten from all that farming. Even worse is that I don’t care about any of them. From day 1, all I’ve wanted was the dagger. Why can’t I just get a dagger skin? I would trade all those skins, even the transmuted ones, in for a dagger.

Oh I forgot to say I also spent 10 relics to get my 1st ring as well. Guess I just have the worst luck ever.

Last edit I swear :P I have about 1 full bank tab of rings and a bajillion tokens (even after giving most of my 7 alts 20 slot boxes, backpieces, and rings) but I have all the tokens and rings on my fractals mule. The stuff you see in my bank is just the stuff I hadn’t sent over yet.

I got a little better off – I got the Dagger, Pistol, Shortbow, Greatsword, Focus, 2 Rifles and another that I can’t think of right now. Less than half of those are usable on the character I got them on (Thief). The rarity of the weapons themselves is fine – the method of getting the one you actually want is not.

I agree completely. I will never use the maces, the hammers, the rifle, the focus, or the torches. The only ones I will ever use are the sword, the underwaters, and in the very odd occasion, the pistol. I don’t mind that it takes 10 48s to get a skin, what I do mind is that after all those 48s the skin I get isn’t even a skin I’ll ever use.

Looks similar to mine, except I have 3 hammers and 2 daggers, have done hundreds of 48 runs, and haven’t yet gotten the Scepter I want. Meanwhile, my friend (who wants a hammer) has gotten 3 scepters. Funny, eh?

I’m not mad and, as a matter of fact, I’m glad that it’s so hard to get the one I want. It drives me to keep trying. It gives me something to work toward in order to keep playing it (I also enjoy FotM, but it’s nice having some kind of physical goal as well). FotM rewards are so abysmal by any standards that if I could have just traded 12 skins in for what I wanted, I’d probably have been done ages ago. That it’s so hard to get what I want is a good reason for me to keep trying, and means that when I do get it, it’ll be that much sweeter.

If it wasn’t worth it to you, you wouldn’t still be doing it. As a result, even if you’re bitter that you haven’t gotten what you wanted, you’ll keep pushing for it. Now imagine when you get the dagger you want. That feeling is something you’ll remember for a long time. That’s what these skins are for, that feeling, that journey.

I’m different from you dusk, fractals has kitten me off so much that when I finally get the dagger I will probably never do a fractal ever again, even if they open up 50s and give new rewards. The design of a game shouldn’t be to infuriate the player, it should be to make them have fun, whether they want to or not.

I can safely say that all this work I’ve put into getting the fractal dagger is NOT worth this. If I could go back and not do a single fractal after getting the tokens for my 1st backpiece, I would. The only problem is I have invested all this into trying for my dagger. It’s a BIG regret but I’m already too far in to turn back now. This is the same feeling I had when going for my fused dagger. After dropping 80g and being 40g in debt, I still had NOTHING to show for it. I borrowed 20g at a time for 10 more tries at a time and got the skin token after 120g spent. I didn’t feel good I got the skin, I wasn’t happy I got the skin, I was just angry at the game for making it so kitten random with no other way to get what I thought would be cool to have. If I were to get the fractal dagger tomorrow, the 1st skin to go would be the fused one. The other weapon I have is the pact one (that I’ve had for months). The reason being isn’t that I like the look of the pact one, it’s that I knew how to get it and that I could work towards it. When I got it I was happy that all that work payed off. Also the pact dagger has a pretty good sigil on it.

The difference between these things and precursors (which still suck to get) is that precursors actually have a definite way to get. You see the price they are at on the tp, you work your way up until you have that gold, then you buy it. No rng, no disgusting rage inducing qualities that have made me stop playing for days.

Getting the fractal hammer skins was worse than getting nothing at all. When I see that skin the only thing that goes through my mind is “Gee, well there goes my chance at getting the dagger any time soon.”

I agree with you randomfightfan. The thing is, after 3 months of talking about this issue, and 4 months of infuriation trying to get the sword, I’m completely burnt and have little to no will to complain anymore.

Fractals isn’t fun, and the feeling you get when you get the weapon you want isn’t great either. Its more along the lines of “about time you stupid piece of kitten”.

I’m not happy over getting the my goal anymore, I’m just exhasted.

Okay, so you and I are different then. That’s fine, but then again, Fractals and Fractal skins were added as a means to make people like me happy and keep people like me playing, and were not meant for everyone. I think it’d be very selfish of me if I asked ANet to make all dungeon skins RNG-based because then I might actually play dungeons (to loot those rare skins), and similarly it’s very selfish of you to ask for the RNG to go away on Fractal skins. However, each of us have different things we can do; I can get the RNG rewards and work towards those and enjoy it, and you can get the Pact dagger that you know you’re working toward and enjoy that. I think that what we have now is a fair compromise.

Furthermore, random, what you’re experiencing is escalation of commitment, and you shouldn’t feel compelled to grind more if you hate it just because you’ve already tried a bunch of times. Coping with escalation of commitment is important, both IRL and in-game (I feel terrible that you did what you did for a fused weapon skin!).

well sadly I do feel compelled just cause I’ve already wasted countless hours on the crap dungeon (thought it was cool at first, then I did it 500 more times) just to get 1 skin that I thought would be awesome to have. Now it’s more along the lines of what Lanser said. I don’t have any feeling of satisfaction or accomplishment for doing this anymore, it’s more of a feeling of about freaking time.

The best irl experience I can compare this too is having my luggage lost during a flight. I am on the flight to go somewhere and enjoy myself. What happens when my luggage doesn’t come with me is a feeling of anger and disappointment. When/if my luggage ever shows up I don’t feel ecstatic that I finally have what’s mine back, I feel more like why the hell was this a certain way to begin with.

And to dusk, if you like the rng skins and I like having something to work towards, why can’t we both be happy instead of one of us being disappointed? Keep the skins rng but also use something like pristines where you can trade them in for a skin of your choice after 50 runs or something. It would take an ungodly amount of grind to get what you want with the CHANCE of getting your skin through the rng lottery. At least there would be a light at the end of the tunnel over this feeling of being trapped in dark waters without knowing which way is up.

Now I’ll put this into another irl situation. With the work you do, would you rather be paid accordingly with cash, or would you want to be paid with lottery tickets? Sure you COULD hit the jackpot and be set for life, you also could have nothing and starve. OR you could survive a comfortable life and be able to save up for your desires.

Is it too wrong to ask to be able to trade in ‘x’ number of pristine relics to get one of the fractal skins? I’m personally at over 60 pristines (just from frac 30 and 26) and I’ve only gotten the staff and greatsword skin. I really want the giant lollipop hammer to go with my outfit.

I guess I wouldn’t mind if you could trade in and get them from RNG. Just don’t reduce the prestige of the weapons is all I’m worried about. 50 pristine relics is too easy, because a player could just faceroll L10 repeatedly and get 50 pristine relics with no challenge at all. Right now, people run L48’s because the chances are better at higher levels; thus, I’d want whatever “token” is used to also encourage that same progression (otherwise Fractals fail, you infuriate everyone who grinded for the weapons, and you ruin the value of the skins entirely).

Maybe a stack of pristine relics per skin and I might consider that enough. I also wouldn’t be averse to some new kind of currency that you can’t get until L20, and get more of the higher you play, which is then converted into fractal skins in large quantities.

Whatever happens, my primary concern is that the prestige of the weapons remain. If that’s lost, then the entire value of the skins beyond just looking cool is ruined as well, and that would absolutely crush me.

I can personally say that the method of acquisition being so low RNG gives me the same feeling as OP. I like minis, and the Wintersday pet gamble made me a little sick to my stomach. That includes when I got the ones I wanted, even, I liked the process so little that it killed the enjoyment.

This is why I’ve stopped pushing on Fractals for the moment. It’s clear they will add to it later, either levels or rewards, and I’ll wait until it’s better.

+1 to being able to trade and RNG. That should pretty much always be the norm.

It’s simple: weapons do not drop anymore. Instead, a new relic drops at 20+, “Flawless Fractal Relic.” It has the exact same drop rate as any Fractal weapon at the moment, but you turn it in at the merchant in the lobby for a skin of your choice. Rarity remains, frustration partially fades.

Common sense solution right here. Shame anet will probably never implement it. If people are worried that this would make the gs less impressive, then don’t grab the gs. I’m going for the dagger, many other are going for the hammer and sword. Just go for something that not everyone would pick for their 1st token cause it’s likely those gs people wouldn’t being going back for more tokens after the hell they went through for their 1st weapon.

Looking at your pic makes me jealous. I made like 80 runs and all i can show for it is 1 mace, 1 trident and 1 gs… in 80 runs above 28, 38, 40.

You topic starter shoudl not complain, you are not at the end spectrum of bad luck there is.

I agree that RNG drops should not be removed, and that the system in which you can track progression towards a fractal skin should not be easy.

There are ways to reward those that do 40+ without providing the same reward to those lower than 40. Since we only have vials, globs, and shards of mist essence, why not create cores that drop 40+ or 50+?

This would provide a use for shard collections many long time fractal runners have and give the possiblility of spending enormous amounts of time to reach your goal. Or you could up the difficulty to a point where cores actually drop, saving you time if you have the skill to compensate.

This way, maybe you get lucky and the chest gives you the skin. Or if not, you work towards your goal instead of being stuck in limbo.

At least you are getting skins.
me? weeks now, nothing. Not even a ring. Not that I need rings, I’ve an entire bank slot full of useless heal/cond junk as it is.
That said, I got a fractal gs on my very first ever 30 run. It’s on my warrior, who I login maybe once a week for no particular reason.

I’m waiting for patch notes. I’ll check out this new molten dungeon for sure, but if when fotm gets completely ignored for another month, I’ll go put my time elsewhere.

I actually don’t mind the chance of getting a skin, since it seems to be around 10% at level 48 (those of you who do lower levels and hope so skins, the chances are truly terrible, I strongly suggest you consider doing 48 runs instead).

But a system that doesn’t allow for 7/12 skins to be the same skin would be nice. Fractal skins wouldn’t be any more rare if they could be traded 1:1, and that way people could have the skins they want.

I didn’t get a skin for the 1st month that I did fractals. I then didn’t get a skin for another month. I then got 3 skins in a week and now it’s back to about 1 skin a month of doing either 38 or 48 every day. I took a break for a little while b/c I can only be po’d at a game for so long before I just straight up quit.

And how is that a problem? That’s not a problem with the attainability of the skin, it’s a problem with the design of the dungeon and the fact players were forced to do content that they didn’t want to do to obtain a skin that isn’t available anywhere else or any other way.

In my last 120 runs I got 3 skins.
Im talking the 38’s and 48’s with I think around ten of the 26/28 dailies.
I think it’s a time thing, if I dont touch fracts for a week and then suddenly do one.. get a skin. If I do 5 back to back runs per day I see nothing for weeks.\
And yes, there is no prestige to fotm skins. It’s all ‘wow look who got lucky.’
I just want them because they are pretty T_T I’m still holding out for the skin I actually want. cmooonnnn greatswordd.
My new tatcic is to just leave fotm alone for a while and then randomly do one, it seems I have better chance at skins… be it the ones I dont want

No kidding, there isn’t. The “prestige” you’re going for isn’t what you think it is. When people look at you with w.e fractal weapon they don’t go “Ooo, that guy must be good if he has THAT skin!” No people don’t do that, what people DO though is go, “wow lucky icky d, I have 80 pristines and 80 rings, and HE’S the one who gets my weapon! Such bs…” Winning the lottery doesn’t make you good at something and it doesn’t make you special.

Someone wearing arah armor has more prestige than someone wielding fractal weapons.

OP get a lot comparing to only 103 lvl 20+ runs (will be probably less considering lvl 1-10)

only 11 like him <.< (all of them but 1 drop at 20-24…..just 1 at 38)

I didn’t ever repeat any 10s and I bought my 1st ring with pristines so my number should be 113 not 103. I didn’t get my 1st usable ring until I was level 32 fractals, meaning I put it on at lvl 33. Pretty sure I did 2 lvl 30s to get that last token. Was a long time ago, memory gets hazy u know. But that’s why I wasn’t counting it in my equation.

I’m a thief and I both pug and group up. I had 1 guildie do fotm with me as I lvld up to 48, the other 3 were pugs. As it is now, I do about 50% either full guild or a mix and match with pugs and the other 50% is full pugs. That is fractals 48 with pugs on a regular basis. No problems here.

Btw, thief is top 3 class for fotm along with mesmer and guard. There is at least 1 thing I can do as a thief that carries people through on every fractal. It really shines on dredge but there is something on every one. People don’t know this b/c they don’t trust thieves so they remain close minded. Really sad.

You really shouldn’t knock the 48 pugs. There’s usually a reason they’re up that high.

Btw, yesterday I did a 48 with a pug. I’m a glass thief and I had the highest armor level in the group. The rest were necro, ranger, mes, ele. 3 deaths total in that run. Love having ele and ranger in my group. I can keep everyone alive for a very long time just by abusing their water fields.

I missed the part where you said 20s gives better skin drop. Good for you if it’s true. I just know I didn’t get a single skin until 48 so I feel like 40s have a higher drop rate so it’s worth doing that over 20s (despite everything else doubling in numbers, doubling in dmg, and quadrupling in hp).

Btw, you seem like the kinda person who could make an awesome ‘thieves in fractals’ guide. I’d love for more people to understand the merits of thief and how play it, especially in high lvl fotm.

And afaik BEST profession at least at 40 is warrior along with guardian.
And mesmer is the most overrated profession……until Tomorrow at least.

I kinda want the weapons to still be rare and not easily obtained via pristine relics but a 1:1 trading system for people who already have skins but not the ones they want as mentioned in some posts above sounds like a pretty nice idea imo. The RNG is bit funny in someways since people usually don’t get the skin they want, for example some of my guildies get 2-3 fractal hammers but all they want is the sword, and the person wanting the actual hammer gets everything else but that.

I just want the fractal sword.

My dungeon crew and I only do fractals 26 or 28 maybe 3 times a week at most (never more than 1 a day), and all of us have gotten several skins. I really doubt that higher scale fractals would make much of a difference in end rewards. It’s just the horrible nature of the RNG-only acquisition. We’ve only been doing this for maybe a few months after they did the party fractal scale progression change.

At this point, I’m just going to wait and see if something is done about the skin reward system and just attempt only if a friend needs fractals. I did want to advance further in fractals, but I’ve come to realize that it’s artificial difficulty and not much of an actual challenge (higher hp, higher mob damage, and higher mob count). There’s other things I’d rather be doing than suffering a headache from repeating fractals too much. I’m not sure why the reward style isn’t consistent with the other reward systems in the game (RNG OR progression acquisition), but I hope it changes eventually.

are you counting 1 run as 1 poinit into your fractal frequenter? If so, that’s not how it works. 1 run is 3-4 points into that frequenter category as that achieve is 1 point per each zone you complete. If you had done 500 fractals then you should have over 400 pristines (counting any used for rings ofc). It is disgusting that you have as few as you do and even more disgusting that you don’t have a choice of which 3 you could have gotten. If you can’t even use the skin or the skin doesn’t fit with your playstyle then it is worse than getting nothing. Ok yes.. i guess 500 FF isnt 500 runs! .. its 500 / 4 = 125 Chests.. 3 skins to show for it! welcome to my luck and just the other day i was in a party and 3 of the people had a Fractal great sword. I asked how many runs they had done… i got back a reply of 30-40 lol hurts when i hear that.. but then again i’m yet to get a LW Precursor or any dyes worth more then 4G or anything worth more then 4G on the TP .. playing from the start of the game and i’ve been the most unluckiest person in GW2.. ( just guessing )

ohh and it took me 500 Ecto’s 500 Coins, 500 Shards and 500 crystals to get my 80 Clovers! is that good?.. not sure

I never will or plan to ever start farming (COF) in this game.. maybe that’s my problem??
have put in on average over 4 hours a day each day every day from launch of the game playing.

At this point I’m just waiting for a better game to come along and save my from GW2 .. I hear Homeworld maybe making a comeback

The RNG is disgusting. I wanted the fractal sword, but I ended up getting Bolt quicker. Crazy.

To make matters worse I wait for a long long time to only end up with the trident…

And Articluna.4509 .. if i got 1 skin every 20 then i should have 25 skins by now not 3 LOL again

Maybe learn to read? I got it from a “level” 26 run… I’ve done 300+ overall.

500 “fractal levels” translates to 166-125 full runs so please, that’s something most of us had completed before january patch.

Just count your pristine fractal relics VidGhost to know how many dailies you’ve done and stop complaining. 121 dailies, 6 skins, thousand+ “levels”/250+ full runs (lost track in february..) Then again, having leveled multiple toons to 40+ personal reward level range I must yet be inferior to your knowledge.

Also, I was talking to OP. I don’t care really about you VidGhost. He has double of my luck (11 for 113 dailies)

Anyway, I’ll just do few dailies now and then to get myself full stack of pristines. Will stop “farming” skins after that.

I’d like to point out that people seem to forget that daily = daily. You can do full tier and receive only 1 chest from it as long as you do all progress runs of that tier during one day. So 10→20, while not often done with 1 chest, may usually be only 2 or 3 (daily)chests. I remember when January patch came and I did 5 times f28 in row for pugs to get my guardian from f16 to f21 since guardian seemes so much more fun than ranger for higher levels. ^^
