Fractals 11 - Loot error please FIX
This is not a bug. This is a random drop from the daily rewards. The vials also have a chance to randomly drop from every creature in the zones.
So as Azelroth suggested.. Loot everything!
Isn’t he talking about the vials, not rings?

I like how the people who do the most playing/grinding are also the people who cry the hardest when they get unlucky.

The first part is regarding rings via daily chests. The second portion is obviously about vials, hence the also.
I admit with a good team it will be easy, it is just AI. However it will be really a crap if I get forced to play a ranged healing shout build.
Also I don’t find it really fair that one team can just face-roll while other team struggles. It’s kind of like Magic Find discussion. Team can perform well but they would have performed even better with resists. And in this case we are talking about getting hit 2x-4x damage.
If grinding low levels is a must then give special tokens. Make everyone do it same amount.

it’s absolutely ridiculous that progression is based on rng. on top of this the rng could give you an item you dont even want stat wise and then the item is account bound on top of it. the only alternative is to grind out 250 T6 materials to craft a piece yourself.

Loot based on RNG is dumb indeed, but is your progression really halted because you lack agony resist?
That is solved by straightening hands, using [Brain], not watching silly YT videos or being otherwise distracted from doing your job.
So you never make mistakes? Because in a tough fight it is quite big whether Agony downs you or just does some damage.
Obviously it doesn’t really matter on easy fights but that’s quite subjective.
I just wanted to leave this article here written 6 months ago by Colin Johanson about the game design. Just read it fully and tell me how it has been forgotten so quickly. This seemed like such a core design idea and now it is gone…
TLDR: “Fun impacts decisions. Every time you finish a dungeon you get tokens you can trade in for reward items that you want, rather than having a small chance of getting it as a drop, because it’s more fun to always get rewarded for finishing with something you want to have!”
Edit: A lot of people are saying that the people complaining about this are elitists or are crying because they got unlucky but it seems that ANET is in the process of pulling a bait and switch. Many of us signed up to play a game that was so clearly outlined in a manifesto and by producers letters as different and new and exciting. Now after 4 months in it turns out that things ANET said they didn’t believe in are just being added anyway. I think it is fair to criticize this, I do not feel I am being dramatic about it, I am not raging or saying I am quitting the game I am just saying that ANET should answer as to why they are taking the game off course and produce a new letter explaining the future of the game so that we can make an informed decision about continuing to play. I suspect if this were a subscription game it would be hemorrhaging users.

Slowed down? Yes.

So, now I’m a little confused.
The rings are RNG drop, as a bonus reward for going from level 10 to level 11. So, if you didn’t get a ring drop the first time you get from lvl10 to lvl 11, does that mean the rings won’t drop for you any more from lvl11-19? I read that you get the infused version at lvl 20, but is it a one time bonus drop?

The rings have a chance at dropping from the bonus reward chest DAILY. Meaning even if you missed out on 10-11 bonus ring – just do it again when it resets for another crack at it.
The ring’s have a chance to drop after level 10+ meaning from 10 and every even number after that (12, 14, 16, 18, 20 etc.)
If you have already done your daily for that day then you won’t get it – remember to wait for the reset to try again. It’s repeatable daily too.

No you can keep going to 15+ without any agony resist – not as easy as before but still very doable. Some people can go to 20+.
And rng? You can make a backpack and slot 5 agony resist infusion and a further 5 from infusing the item via the forge. The only rng in the back pack is getting one vial of condensed mist. Getting beyond 25-30 may be tricky with only one infused piece though but that depends on if there are any ways to get jewellery with agony resist.
Fun fact, just did level 20. You cannot even survive Agony with only +5 resistance. At least from the Jade Maw’s auto-application, as it auto-killed everyone else in my party except me (technically one other player could have had +10 resistance, but he was stingy with his fractal shards). We only managed to survive because when we re-entered the arena, the party-wide application left me clinging to life, and the jade maw couldn’t hit us where we’d reentered.
I’m just worried how it will affect me as a melee. Staying at max range you can quite well dodge everything (projectile travel time).

Predictable is boring.
Chance is exciting; or a big let-down.
Either way, it’s exciting when you get it. I’m glad to see them finding a position between the 3 week camps in EQ to get 1 mob to even spawn, with a low chance of dropping an item, vs. today’s panda way of handing people some lame currency for completing something. I miss the days of relying on RNG for drops.

Oh noes..I have to do lower levels to help other people…what a travesty that my leetness is hampered. Blizzard was RNG all the F’n time, you get a chance to get something nice on bosses but there was never a sure thing for your class and even if it dropped there were others there who rolled for it unless you had a point system for loot. Your guild or group should have no issue running you through a couple lower dungeons to get you the ring imo..
No one in this thread is saying that, my guild group is totally fine running people through content to get that item however what people are saying is that isn’t fun. The point of adding challenging new content is that it puts your skills to the test and if you need agony resistance to even test your skills (which all indications are you do after 20 we will personally test that this weekend when we progress to that) then you need to grind out those lower levels for an unstated % chance at an item to continue.
Fun is what this game is about for my guild (a primarily WvW guild) but on Friday when the dungeon first rolled out we had people who haven’t enjoyed PvE in years say wow this is really fun I could totally see myself doing it. However once you reach the point where you cannot progress past that point without agony resistance or agony resistance given by the back piece. Then it just turns back to farming scale 10 every day hoping people get rings. Personally I will stop doing the content and go back to what is fun for me, PvP, and just hope they roll out ascended stats on other gear before it becomes to much of a stat separation in WvW.
I think its a process, right now with the team they have this dungeon is a great start. Ive heard mostly positive things for it, there are a few who came from more elite guilds or “skillful” groups that handle things faster..but this beast doesnt please just you, it has many masters it has to appease. So unfortunately you have to live with the fact that this dungeon isnt a 10 yr old design with many different implementations..its a baby and its going to have growing pains.
This forum disgusts me. It’s ok for some events to be random items (like Karka) but it’s not ok for the FotM to be random? The entire game is one big clusterkitten of RNG.
Get over it or move on to another game. I’ll say the same regurgitated crap that people told the event folks…RNG is RNG. Run it again and again until your group gets lucky. End of story.
Agony resistance is required, not optional and shrugs, just so you know, expecially going deeper All of us must get his agony resistance ring reward as expected going deeper
Ditton, I agree this content should try to please everyone and that by changing this it is a hit to people that have already ground out this content (mainly the elitist farmers you are talking about) but I am confused, are you saying that as a PuG or causal guild group it won’t bother you to be the person who needs to run difficulty 10 twenty times to get a ring making you the one holding up your group of causal friends with limited playtime from progressing. I am ok with making the price of the ring extremely high or making it a huge gold sink as long as there is a assured method to getting it.

No, I understand just fine. No, it doesnt bother me to run it at lower level difficulties for guildees or friends, I find it fun, so helping someone out by trying to get them a ring would not bother me in the least. The issue is that abstractly there is no difference between RNG and absurd amount of currency, its all time. What you are upset at in truth is that someone has something you dont in the same amount of time, that is the difference. Its an attempt to try and keep people at lower levels, its a sad attempt..not a very good design and has been implemented with poor success before, however..like I said before..this is a baby, and its going to have growing pains. If you yell at the baby..they will just cry and lash out, instead we need to tell them what they are doing right and what we would like to see more of via operant conditioning. Hey..that fractal shop is pretty awesome, would be even better with a ring in it too so that we could all get them at the same time.

Howdy! To answer your question there are two seperate Bonus Chests. One is a daily reset at reset time the other is a special chest for hitting the X0 Levels for the first time. 10 20 30 etc.
The rings can be gotten out of any Jade Maw kill. Whether its 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 etc.
As far as i know there is no seperate daily tiers either just 1 daily chest.

I’m not even 100% sure I could have survived the Jade Maw’s agony with 10 resist. When it was cast the second time, I popped my heal, ate 3 medkits, and was standing in 2 super elixir fields with regeneration on, and I think in your healing spring too. It still managed to down me and take me to around 25% health.
I think there is nothing wrong with random drop rings beacouse u all have the same choise and chance. U all can made Back and buy or made an infusion into that back if u r not lucky for ring at lvl 10. I made back for me and now i got reristence .. no problem i just spend around 40 golds for some mats. So stop crying, the chance for drop is still there and minimal resistence u can get from the back which u can made …. easy . And on higher lvls u have higher chance to get rings. I got no problem with this.
And one more think, its no problem get 12 lvl with no resist, all u need is only good players in party and im glad that players with no skill cant go to higher lvls.

I just reached Lvl 10 today and thought i will get my ring to progress through the next stage but when i see it was agian RNG dissappointment we enter fight against Jade Maw and decided we all ran to the boss and clear the island one warrior died on the way in 2 seconds but we try to kill Jade maw with four and we did it than every one open thr chest and we commit suicide so last warrior can take his loot. Now see the Dilemma we do all the hard work and that warrior open the chest and get Red Ring and what i get another slap of RNG on my face this is now enough.
So I was wondering why I didn’t get a ring after after defeating lvl 10. I wonder did I not get it cuz my whole team got kicked out of dungeon after the 1st Time I ran lvl 10

I prefer the other option: have enough people express their disgust with the RNG so it gets changed. And it SHOULD be changed as its a pretty kitten bad way to gate progression.
6 days doing Lvl10/20 dailies , and no still no ring. Kitten RNG much? Can’t even be bothered to progress already. People i know have been getting the rings on first try/ getting multiples.
I think that it’s a good idea to force players to experience the Agony mechanic without having any resistance at least for a few levels. This way, they can truly appreciate how amazing Infusions are. That said, RNG based progression is just silly. Yes, I realize that you don’t need rings till later on, but it’s conceivable for someone to NEVER get a ring.

I seriously hope the next patch is going to fix this mess. They lose yet another customer if it does not.
In ArenaNet’s defense, you do get Fractal Relics that you can use to craft an Ascended back.

I’ve accepted the fact that i will never see the ring or a vial….
My team and me finished over 100 fractals now. We are at Level 25 and one of us still don’t have a ring and had to build a backpack and upgraded it while another one got 5 rings.
The only time agony resistent is realy needed is at Jade Maw, so most of us get downed, some of us died and one of sometimes with luck two stay alive and had to revive the others.
At the moment the backpack is the only item to keep leveling trough the dungeon if you weren’t lucky. But it’s very expensive to get it and more expensive to upgrade it.
Will do some more dailys hopefully we wil get lucky and the rings will pop at the right person and not the one who allready had his bagslot full of it.

with the backpack you don’t need the ring. There was some testing done, 5 agony resistance reduced the damage by about half. More than enough to keep it manageable, until rediculus levels.

You will need either a backpack and a ring or an infused backpack at Level 20. Agony will kick in with strength and you will offen die if you haven’t enough resistent.
They need to fix this and fast , people won’t run these dungeons for RNG through all the bugs , disconnects , game crashes without an option to return which makes you lose hours of progress with no reward and no chance on finishing. It seems like a punishment more then anything else really. Add the rings for relics or increase the chance make it a guaranteed drop. What’s the point in getting to the higher difficulty without any real reward ?
+5 agony from backpiece is enough to get you to lvl 29
i dont understand how some people praise this RNG system: it’s boring, unpredictable (obviously) and unrewarding, you may run the dungeon few times and get nothing/something useless to your build (because after you are so lucky to get a drop, you have to pray the RNG to give you something useful to your build!)
it’s not about getting guaranteed drops, nobody is asking for free loot here, it’s about having different ways to acquire those rings: they could have added them on the fractal shards vendor to lessen the pain of having to farm dailies, they did this with the old dungeons, it was the basic idea of GW2 dungeons from their manifesto, there is no real reason why they shouldnt do it with fractals too (actually it’s outstanding they havent done it yet)
after all one would probably do the daily each day anyway to get the fractal shards and especially rings for alts (given the current difficulty level system it’s unlikely that someone will want to run the lower tiers again on any alt)
and for those people loving and praising the RNG: if they added rings through vendor they could still go through RNG and not buy the rings at all (i would say that’s masochistic but to each his own..)

Except modern EQ devs (the ones that are running it now) don’t work that way. They realized a long time ago killing a named mob to watch the body poof because of RNG was and always has been a bad idea.
For example of how loot works in EQ now:

Drops 1 item 100% of the time. Has a chance to drop a spell turnin as well
So you have a 100% at an item, but a % chance at an item + spell.
Edit: And with the use of instances such as http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=5478 you will ALWAYS get a drop with no “rare spawn” as it uses a chest system that pops upon completion of the instance (1 item at the completion of the instance. When everquest has less RNG than your game there is something not right.
