Hi,

Fairly new player here. About 3 months in to the game and I have a few questions about fractals.

My first question is this: At what point does exotic gear just not cut it any more in fractals? I ask this because I dont have any ascended armor yet and I’m curious how many levels of fractals I can complete with just exotics. I realize there is an element of skill that comes in to play where some players may actually be able to progress farther than others even with less than optimal gear.

Secondly, Is there anyone who might be interested and has the patience to help a player who is new to fractals learn how to run through some of them. I did one the other day and it was a blast, however I didnt quite know what to do on certain parts. This was a level one fractal. I know I’m a little behind the curve but I dont want to miss out on this portion of the game. Also, i will watch you tube videos on fractals to at least give me an idea.

So, if youve got some patience and enjoy helping other players, contact me or respond to this thread and lets do some runs. I want to learn so take me under your wing. Also, any strong PVE oriented guilds that run fractals frequently that anyone know of?

spam level 9 until youre level 10 and can use the pristines to buy a ring, and then keep spamming level 9 until you have 10 ar. then spam level 19. every tier increase after that will require an extra 15 ar. (ie: 25 for level 29, 40 for 38, 55 for 40/49, 70 for 50)

Question 1: You can use exotic gear until fractal level 40. If you craft 1 ecto refinement a day you should have a full set of ascended armor when you hit level 40.

Question 2: Try to join the dungeon mentor guild [Noob] (thread stickied at the top of this forum) and see if anyone is willing to teach FotM.

Stat wise full ascended armor only adds 36 stat points total 14 main 11 to each secondary( you also get about 5% more armor but everything that 1 shoted you before still will so that’s not really relevant for PvE). The reason people say you need ascended armor for fractals is so you can get more AR without having to buy high level agony infusions. You can run lvl 50 just as easy with exotic armor as ascended as long as you have the required 70 AR from other sources.

I should add that it is cheaper to make ascended armor than it is to buy the 3 +10 infusions that you would need to get to 70 AR. I find the best value for agony infusions is to go with 2×8 and a 9 to get 25 AR then you only need 1 piece of ascended armor( 2 if you want to use you amulet for a utility infusion). This is assuming you have full ascended weapons and trinkets of course.

Edit: My point is that ascended armor is mostly a vanity item the statistical difference between it and exotic armor is small enough to be irreverent(it’s basically the equivalent of 1/2 a might stack). Weapons and trinkets however are much more beneficial but relatively easy to acquire.

What do you mean by ecto refinement? As in ascended material?

What do you mean by ecto refinement? As in ascended material?

Correct. Depending on which crafting profession you chose, when you get to level 450 the ecto refinement option becomes available (you still need to get to 500 to craft the armor though). This item can only be crafted once a day and resets after the daily reset.
