Fractals ruined everything....
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
First off the fractals themselves are horrible. I hate jumping, and there is way too much jumping in the fractals… I didn’t mind that jumping puzzles existed in the open world, because I didn’t have to do them, but EVERYONE has to do the fractals.
That’s weird, I don’t HAVE to do fractals.
Uhm you get pvp gear right away and free, and it’s separate from pve, except in WvW but that’s like half pve anyway so what’s with the whine?
And yes zones are dead, nothing new there. They promise to tweak older zones already.
…yes fractals have become only thing that people seem to do, and they’re super elitist about it.
Nope game doesn’t die for you if you refuse to do fractals, only if you’re a hipster that can’t play game unless you have the best possible gear on you.
There’ still plenty of stuff to do without fractals. But it’s true that something should be done with it to fix the dead zones n’ stuff.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention people are like totally discriminating against us Necroes ALL I see in Lion’s Arch is “LFM FotM NO NECROES” like seriously?!?!
Bigtime. BEING in LA is annoying now with all the LFG LFG LFG LFG. I wish there were a party channel – would be nice. Turn them all off. Im not a fan of Fractals, or how the world has evolved since the release. It feels like the final blow to an already dying server (HoD) Its dead. Everywhere but in LA. Sigh…. I thought Id never leave HoD, even after the mass exodus, but its looking to be about that time.
GrapeGatsby, I’d like to thank you for proving my point.
Being forced to group with you would truly ruin my afternoon, and I wouldn’t play a game that forced me to do that.
Valtameri, I’m only really interested in WvW, and there the thieves can kill you all day long in just a few hits. Adding a gear gap to WvW, it’s game breaking.

Totally understandable, BUT how can you know that even without gear gap, thiefs wouldn’t kill you just as well as with gear gap?
Sometimes it’s easier to blame gear gap and class imbalance rather than admit that maybe enemy had superior skills.
I see things like that all the time in FPS’s, some guy actually is good and everyone that isn’t as good starts to whine “QQ AIMBOTTER”.
The only thing Fractals dungeon has ruined is the LA map chat, other than that, stop the QQ drama queen.
They should add fractal locations throughout the world, cause I hate going into LA overflow all the time.
No, fractals really is an issue. It has taken a game where people actually played out in the world and funneled everyone in to LA where they just sit around spamming LFG and doing FOTM.
Orr is dead (ha, ha, I made a funny) now because of FOTM. All that work and it has been totally obsoleted and wasted by one dungeon.
The sad thing, this is exactly what TERA did; rather than emphasizing their open world elements (Guild vs Guild in TERA’s case, Events in Gw2’s) they funnel everyone into a gear grind in instanced dungeons.
Now, I don’t think Gw2 will deflate nearly as fast as TERA did, but Anet seems to be taking a similar turn by funneling everyone into instances and gear treamilling instead of focusing on the games strengths.
I play Dragon Nest and Vindictus for instances and I like those instance far more than Gw2. If that’s the direction they are heading, then I’m not buying any expansions… nor will any of my friends.
Nothing kills an MMO faster than being forced to play it with the other players.
Because MMOs are single-player games by default…
Nobody wants to group with necros.
Get good with necros in dungeons/fractals. Join a guild.
I had two necros in fractals earlier today – one guildie, one puggie. I personally hate them, but they still can get stuff done, so i don’t mind them really.
I actually don’t mind a gear treadmill, as long as it doesn’t affect pvp, but the stats on ascended gear are good enough to create a gear gap.
The gap is only noticeable in Fractals themselves, thanks to the Agony Resistance – but even with Agony Res you can’t ignore Agony of facetank it.
The difference between other stats compared to exotic jewelry is neglible, although yes – some sweet stat combinations are available on ascended rings. Then again, new jewelry is available via recipes dropped by dungeon bosses, like the Claw of the Howling King from AC – a new exotic piece of jewelry with new stat combo.
..and why do I have to do pve in order to get the gear I need to be effective in pvp. Is this not the number one reason why every pvper leaves every mmo on the market? PVE gear that is better than the PVP gear?
Play sPvP – no PvE required at all.
Or simply keep playing W3 – you still can gear up with badges, even get exotic gear, it just takes longer. If you love W3 but hate PvE, you can stick to W3 all the time and still lvl up, get gold, get loot, get badges.
Now, it’s a freaking nightmare. Everyone is off doing fractals. Events never have enough people. Orr is completely unplayable.
It’s a server problem. Gunnar’s Hold has most temples liberated most of the time. Arah is open ~90% of the time here. We organise guild events, reinforced by pugs, to cleanse Balthazar from time to time, or to retake Arah in the morning.
And yet Gunnar’s Hold has Fractals, too, and people running other dungeons, and people playing W3.
Honestly, I hope you’re joking. You hate an MMO that forces you to group? I LOVE an MMO that offers an incentive to group, the best gear in the game should not be attainable solo. If it is, then there is no point in grouping with other players and no point in the game even being “massively multiplayer” or even “online” for that matter. The world feels dead and stagnant if I never enjoy it with other players.
Many people actually really enjoy fractals, I’m sorry that you do not, but there really is no way to please everyone. No one is forcing you to do them.
Do you guys remember all the posts complaining about how crowded Orr was all the time and how everyone hated it? Guess Arenanet listened and got people out of Orr.

He actually has a point. To those who actually enjoy fractals and have a regular groups, this isn’t an issue. But to many who are revisiting the mid to late game again on another alt at level 60-80s – good luck in getting any Dungeon Story runs done.
Citadel of Flame, Heart of the Waves are easy enough for pick up groups that some would still volunteer, maybe Twilight Arbor as well. But for harder ones like Circle of Eternity, Arah etc – good luck finding an exploration run going.
And when you get to 80. Good luck finding Fractal Level 1 parties, cause FDS is tied to each character.
It’s a wake up call for some players I think: You need to be this tall to party with other members.
This is for pure PVE dungeon runs, mind you.
I cannot help but think this is a bad direction to take.
I LOVE an MMO that offers an incentive to group, the best gear in the game should not be attainable solo.
What a great argument for Fractal of the Mists. That’s the best reason to play MMORPG ever.
I hear there are Mists that hides a land of Pandas over there.
Then there’s Legendary weapons.
This post will be infracted cause it’s too close to the truth.
They should add fractal locations throughout the world, cause I hate going into LA overflow all the time.
Overflow is the best way to find groups for FotM. If you can’t find party members on your world’s LA, you can pick some up in overflow and likewise if you cant complete your group in overflow, go back to your world’s LA and grab party members from there. Works for all dungeons, not just FotM.
Only to lose the fractal progress when one of them disconnects out of the dungeon instance.
Perhaps I’m lucky in having a lot of positive experiences in this game so far, but… I think people are missing one of the most fundamental parts of the game – Guilds. (and for the record, I’m not even going to comment on the forced group play in an MMO. That’s just ridiculous.)
Join an active Guild. If you are looking to run dungeons, join a Dungeon guild. If you are looking for Fractals, believe it or not people are making Fractal guilds. If you are looking for a primary PvE (or PvP, or WvW) guild, guess what? Those exist too. And on top of that, there are guilds that do all of these things. Then, ask Guildmates to join you. Are you garuanteed a full party each time? No. But it does help. Go to LA, and go to the zone and just ask if anybody’s interested. You aren’t the only one – clearly other people are having this issue as well.
That won’t solve everything, I know. But joining a Guild helps a lot.
Fractals are made even worse by the fact that you have to do them with other players. Nothing kills an MMO faster than being forced to play it with the other players.
Everquest and WoW want a word with you.
Fractals are made even worse by the fact that you have to do them with other players. Nothing kills an MMO faster than being forced to play it with the other players.
If you dont want to play an RPG with other players there are plenty of options out there for you. *cough*skyrim*cough*
You know what would be better? A fractal raid!
Fractals are the best!
We need more fractal dungeons!
Ok, you guys want to play with other players? Then get ready for it.
Personally, if I am making the group, and you are a necromancer, you will not be invited. I do not want you, you will not be there. You have almost no group synergy, and have dismal DPS.
I need classes that can do knockdowns, slows, rooting, whatever CC they can pull off will be a factor in deciding if they get a group invite.
How much direct DPS can you do? Condition classes are not wanted. For the most part, direct damage classes can keep max conditions stacked on their own.
..now pardon me while I look for a third party recount program. You know, the kind Rift forbid and could do nothing to stop people from using.
Yeah, I’ll also get me one of those third party gear score programs. It will be harder to tell what people have by their appearance, so you all might want to consider that when dressing your toon.
If you’ve done the hard instance, wear that skin. Don’t be caught in some AH trash simply because it looks better.
Also my groups will have 2-3 tanks. That means guardians and warriors. If you are not a guardian or warrior, you will be spec’d for ranged.
I don’t want to hear any arguments about how there is no trinity, blah, blah, blah…. Yes there is. Put on your big boy pants, or go play in a pug, it’s not my problem that you like to be worthless.
You know what, while I’m at it, lets just make a guild. 5-Mans will be run from 6 to 10 pm server time monday through friday, every guild member will be required to farm mats for legendaries for at least 4 hours on saturday. We will start a guild currency system, DKP (dungeon kill points) guild members will ears 1 point for completing a fractal, then they can use that DKP to buy mats to make their legendaries.
On sunday we will do WvWvW, every member attending will be expected to donate 1 gold to buy seige weapons.
…alts will be allowed to attend WvWvW, but only if they are level 75+.
All guild members will be expected to use TS and vent, and to register at the website.
I’ll see all of you in game, or at least the ones that can cut it, and lets remember people, this is all about having fun

That’s what guilds are for
edit @ up – if this is what you really think about guilds you either have just bad experience with terrible guilds or never really got into one because of unbased fears.

In warcraft, I was the druid class leader for my guild for for about 8 months. I raided for over five years, and we were always in the top five guilds, for progression, on a very competitive server.
Trust me. Guilds can be much worse than anything I described.
How about being so mad that you can’t raid, because several guildies are attending an in-game funeral for another player, that you get the rest of your guild to show-up and make fun of the real life family members of the deceased.
Trust me.. the whole non-speaking event farming groups of GW2 are the greatest things ever.

Serenity Now had a sequel?
but EVERYONE has to do the fractals.
I stopped reading here…

Maybe you should look for something laid-back, more social oriented then? With more people interested in helping people and doing stuff together for fun rather than just for progression and being competitive?
“Trinity” doesn’t exist in GW? I call BS : http://imgur.com/BrgiU
This is how it starts.. And this is part of what FotM is doing to the community. Aside from lvl splitting and gear splitting, this too. Grats!
Name and the rest of the chat hidden so mods don’t remove my post.

How about you forget that game where kids roam and trolls breed. And use your brain a little..
A good guild with just a little research can yield amazing results. Take mine for example, we arent HUGE OMG PWN EVRYTHING leaders, fee’s, etc.. But we are super friendly, ALL of us are mature, average age 28, and in general have had a super good time. I myself joined them abt 5 years ago, in AION.
I am giving you the benefit of the doubt, because the structure and rant in your post does pose resemblance to trolling, and just raging…
No you don’t HAVE to do the fractals. You CAN if you want to, end of story.
“Nothing kills an MMO faster than being forced to play it with the other players”
This statement right here.. is the epitome of ridicule… So you are telling me that Counter Strike died because you HAD to team up with people to go against the other team? You are telling me that the abbreviated name for games like GW2 is: Massively Multiplayer Online is just a ruse devised by evil corporations that just want to enslave us into thinking that grouping is a good thing?
If you TRULY, with 100% conviction believe the things you posted, then my friend, I believe you have no place being in any multiplayer game, let alone any social event/gathering.
“Trinity” doesn’t exist in GW? I call BS
This has less to do with “trinity” and more to do with the FACT that warriors/guardians are currently the best classes in-game to steamroll fractals with.
To steamroll PvE with – you meant.
Its the only dungeon thats fun how can you say it ruined anythin lol.
From what I understand, the only thing Fractals has killed is Cursed Shores. Admittedly, that’s an issue if you want Karma gear because no one wants to the temple quests any more. Plus if you want map completion on those zones, life just became a little bit difficult because there are skill points, points of interest even way points that are difficult to tag on your own, even if you are a tank the world and live to tell about it Guardian. But Orr was never loved. Tolerated because people used it to grind Karma and loots but it was loathed by one and all. I doubt Cursed Shores would have died if people actually enjoyed it.
To steamroll PvE with – you meant.
Considering I pretty much quit PvE altogether on my TW bot, yes.
I’m not sure if fractals ruined anything as much as it inflamed old issues that players have been talking about since day 1 almost. Class imbalances (which become more apparent the higher you go), RNG/Grind vs. Skill in acquiring stuff, Condition vs. Direct damage, how toughness/+healing are nerfed to being trivial just so you can claim “no trinity” yet your encounters don’t equally respect the skills available, etc.
