GW2 Raiding vs FF14 Raiding
ffxiv raiding, at least now, seems to be more on the wow side but with longer battles. other wise it’s not much different in terms of mechanics. Gotta get the gear (to an extent), understand your class, and understand the mechanics of the boss. Anet wants to make it so that you can have a different encounter every time given certain parameters.
Raiding is sort of the same in any game.
From what my friend tells me, FFXIV raids have much better mechanics than the fights on GW2 however he says that the raid released so far on here is actually pretty good.
I will ask him if he wants to post about it in detail for ya. One thing I can tell you now though is that on FFXIV they release content very frequently (as expected from a subscription MMO) and the content is very rewarding from what I understand… dungeons on that game don’t get their rewards nerfed by 66% xD

They kind of do.
The drops from them are effectively devalued once catch up mechanisms make it easier to get equal gear, and especially once you move onto better gear.
Can only speak for vanilla FF14.
FF14 has hard trinity, gear grind, and slower, less dynamic combat. Also drops need to be rolled on.
Raids are 8 man with 2 healers, 2 tanks, and 4 dps.
Due to having a history of more raids, mechanics are also more involved.
The old raids are casualized and become puggable.
Apart from that, raids are pretty similar.
There was no RAID in gw2 until now, i can think of lots of ppl who dont actually knows how it should work and is trying to adapt as they ruin every squad group on lfg
Depends on which raids in FFXIV you’re talking about.
First off you need to know that each class has a rotation be it for healing, DPS, or tanking. Most of these rotations are very hard to perform perfectly while raiding as there can be a large amount of movement that breaks the rotation. Next the damage difference between a perfect rotation and a sloppy one is night and day at least for damage, I’m talking 25%-50% or more.
24 man raids are easy difficulty. You still need to watch out for mechanics, but it’s very forgiving in that most of the time a single person screwing up wont wipe the group. So even though people might miss a mechanic and die they can often get a rez.
Normal raids are moderate difficulty. They have mechanics you need to pay attention to but there is a lot of leeway as far as damage the raid takes and how much DPS is required. An infrequent death here is not a huge issue.
Normal primals are easy
Hard primals are easy to moderate
Extreme Primals are moderate to hard
Savage Raids are incredibly hard. These things are tuned with 95% perfection in mind. That means 95% of the time you cannot miss a mechanic, DPS requirements are very very tight and tanks can die in a single hit if they aren’t using mitigation cooldowns at the right times along with other classes using mitigation buffs to help them. To give you an idea of how hard the latest savage content was, it took weeks and weeks for the top guilds to beat the final floor. The number guilds that have done it is probably in the dozens. The first floor miniboss was considered a major roadblock for a lot of guilds.
FFXIV offers a higher skill cap, more complex fights, well tuned fights, lots more content, and better balance.
GW2 has dodges and a lot more instant abilities and less complex/tight skill rotations(worse for hardcore players but better for casual).
I’d say GW2’s current raids are about the moderate difficulty level. They certainly aren’t anywhere near FFXIV’s savage mode stuff. I’d probably say that if it was put into FFXIV people would be pugging it.
Both have way different feels to them. FFXIV fights have a larger number of mechanics that are harder to learn initially, but once you learn them the fights aren’t really difficult to execute. GW2 so far has very simple and easy to understand mechanics, but are harder to execute without lots of practice because the fights and combat system itself are more dynamic.
Personally, I like how GW2’s feel more so far. It feels more “actiony” and like actual combat, whereas FFXIV feels somewhat like I’m memorizing a script and executing it every time. FFXIV is more proactive whereas GW2 is more reactive.
The first half of Alex Savage (FF’s current raid) feels easier than GW2’s. The first fight would be like if Vale Guardian’s 5th phase was identical to its 3rd one instead of being harder.
However, the second half of Savage feels much, much harder. I feel like GW2’s combat system has more potential to have a higher skillcap if they choose to tune it that way though. The reason FFXIV’s are harder is because the last two fights are tuned so that any mechanic being done wrong pretty much instantly wipes the entire raid, while also having huge DPS checks throughout the entire thing. It would be like if Vale Guardian had a minute less on its enrage timer, hitting a blue AoE would not only teleport you but also stun the entire raid for several seconds, if the Green AoEs dont get exactly 4 people (5 or more on it would fail the mechanic now also), it does 2x the damage it does now and also instantly enrages him, and if anyone ever attacks a guardian they aren’t attuned to it causes a minute long 80% damage down debuff to apply to the entire raid.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it depends on if that sort of extreme difficulty is something you find appealing. There is also a story mode to their raids that’s about the same difficulty as the story dungeons in this game. Currently there is no intermediate difficulty, but the next portion of the raid will most likely be changed to have one at the expense of either the story mode or the savage difficulties.
