I would love to see a solo-section, because I think there are many players out there left unrecognized, because they are not in a SC guild.
However this would need additional rule specifications and I currently have no idea how they should look like. Maybe this is a project after the site is established.

Big thanks to you that you are willing to put so much effort into this, I appreciate it!

Most solo’ers tend to not care about rules as much. Proof is in all the consumables and extra gambits they sometimes use. The way it was on gwscr was that a player could post a solo and define the rules he made for himself. Someone else could try and beat it or they could do a new one with different rules. Because of this a lot of the stuff was a bit messy and was mostly forum based. Im not really sure how you would go about this. If you make restrictive set rules the chances are many solo’ers would just keep doing solos but not post them as records.

I think if we support solos as record runs, we should use an unrestricted ruleset for it. I think having a category for something would only make sense if more than one person submits records for it. An example that should have one is a solo GL Kill, but one that might not is a solo Krait Witch kill, etc.

But yeah, those are only examples. Simply put, I don’t wish the content to be restricted to dungeons or dungeon paths only. I don’t wish for solo records to be restricted by the dungeon speedclear rulesets either. Consumables are almost necessary and actually lead to some clever tactics. I guess it’s possible to have the official solo records for popular content such as Lupi speedkills / Dungeon path solos for which weth should probably get multiple submissions of and then a somewhat hidden “misc” category for less popular content which may get only 1 submission or so.

Here is what happens when you allow anything goes solo competitions: People use every consumable in the book and then you have someone who uses poison pots or advanced skritt technology to cheese lupi and every other boss. Once you reduce the game to who can exploit the hardest, the competition is over. This is why restricted rules were created for regular dungeon runs.

This is why you leave solos up to the players discretion. There are only a few bosses that people actually compete on with solos. The rest are done purely for self gratification, showcasing etc. Anyway i think we should discuss after the baseline of restricted dungeon runs is sorted and we have a better idea of how to implement extra categories on the site.

I do think for boss solos it should absolutely be from the first point that damage is dealt, regardless of the source. Those solos of Belka where an Earth Elemental punches her and keeps her in place should really start their timers when the Earth Elemental punches her and not when the player punches her.

I think we, as a community and with the involvement of all of the key solo players, should discuss that perhaps separately. I’d want to hear thoughts from Miku, Goku (if possible), and so on.

Right, the point is that there is a reason this sort of thing was never really implemented at gwscr and that reason isn’t that cookie was lazy or that no one offered any ideas. It’s just that there isn’t a way to do it that pleases everyone. And if you fail to please Goku, as we saw when he was in Kr, he will just not participate and do his own thing. I imagine others in the boss solo community would be similar.

When it comes down to it you need to have a ruleset for solos that prohibits any consumables and/or shenanigans or you need to have it be anything goes. Or a third option is you are just explicit about what is and isn’t allow (like Dub’s old thread) and pray it pleases people.

I don’t really think guild/player profiles are necessary. A link to the guild’s page IMO is all that is needed (like you’ve already done) and if people want to learn more about that guild they can do so there. I doubt anyone will really spend a bunch of time reading about profiles and having clutter brings down a website.

IMO all that’s needed are :
1) All time records page
2) Current meta records page
3) Solo records page (split by class)
4) A forum page to post new records.
5) Rules page
6) Potential extra pages for fractals / JPs (+SAB)

Other random stuff like duo/trio/quad are kind of random IMO and don’t fit on an official website. Same with killing random champions… I don’t think it’s worth keeping on an official website and honestly I hated that GWSCR had these random things because I felt it made the website look a little bush league. If people want to do these things, go for it but I feel there’s no end to what you could post so it would end up as unbrowsable as GWSCR’s “other records” page was. I mean, I could post a record for every single enemy in the game. “fastest white rabbit” “fastest golden moa” “fastest centaur”, etc etc… to me that’s unworthy of being on a records table.

I DID like the records for SAB split by level & difficult though (and I think they could be added on a Jumping Puzzles record page, as I think those can be fun as well).

The solo page should be split very well (with paths that are impossible with a certain class or completely impossible marked that way for each class individually). Either 8 pages/tables OR a condensed table. GWSCR was all over the place and IMO it didn’t encourage people to work on solo runs.

Solo rules should be relatively free-for-all IMO except for exploits (but use of consumables in a non-exploit way should be allowed). These runs depend on these things to be entertaining. Portal consumable should only be allowed on paths that are otherwise impossible for that class.

*EDIT : Oh, and on the all-time record page (or even all pages), maybe putting the date of the record or build # would be good so people can see how old it is and so they can check what has changed since then.

Also, listing party members that don’t have a video (just put for example Mesmer without any link…) to let people see the party composition.

I honestly think the worst thing that happened to gwscr was when people started doing that map cross and jumping puzzle thing. Id prefer we stay strictly to dungeons and fractals. And dungeon/fractal bosses for solos. The plan is to use this subforum for submissions so lets avoid expanding to non dungeon/fractal related stuff.

Wethospu.6437

With proper database implementation all these things are relatively easy to do. Also all pages and categories will update automatically when database gets updated. So far the plan is:

Records page
Contains every record. On top there are options to filter data. For example

  • Maximum amount of players (solo, duo, etc.)
  • Rule set
  • Only valid records (for all-time)
  • Show dungeons
  • Show fractals
  • Show specific dungeon/fractal
  • Before date
  • Before game update

Predefined filters might be used for official categories.

Player page
A list of players. Selecting a player shows his guild, characters, records and videos.

Guild page
A list of guilds. Selecting a a guild shows its players, records and website.

Rule page
Contains current rule sets. Also links to previous rule sets.

For the record page I’m planning to add different view modes. Not exactly sure about exact implementation but some way to show additional like date, game build or even watch videos through the site.

I would like to get opinions regards ownership of records. Should records belong to guilds or players? Basically what happens to records when a player changes a guild? Consider cases

  • Guild [A] does a 5-man record. One player switches to guild [B].
  • Player does a solo record. He switches his guild.
  • Guild [A] does a 5-man record. Entire guild disbands/splits and forms a new one.
  • Guild [A] does a 5-man record. Entire group changes guild.
  • Guild [A] does a 2-man record. Those two switch guild.

Options:

  • Records transfer when a player switches guild. Causes records to be shared between multiple guilds which may get messy.
  • Records never transfer. Solo players might be screwed.
  • Record transfers if all participants switch to a same guild. Causes solo records to transfer. Allows guilds to disband and reform.
  • Record transfers to guild with most participants, priority with original guild. Same as above but not so strict.

How about this:

Solo and duo records belong to the person(s) who set them.

5 man records belong to the guild that the participants were in at the time. If the participants switch guilds the record can be changed to the new guild with consent of the old guild leader/high ranking official.

I think if the whole guild disbands, we should use the majority system and give the team record to the guild where the majority of participants went.

I would do it so that duo/solo belongs to the person/persons that did the record and 5man belongs to the guild. If a guild disbands and players switch guild, but remain active in the speedclearing community, I would change the record to the guild in which the majority of participants resides. However if they have no intention in continuing being competitive I would just keep it as the old guild. This would prevent there from being random casual guilds that never records.

I know records following players feels a bit weird since we have got used to the current system. But technically guilds don’t really have a big role in records, players do. What I’m saying that it doesn’t necessarily have to be like it used to be. For example instead of the guild name in records, tags could be added after each characters name. Then guild profile could be used to see which records members of the guild currently have.

Anyways, I will make an implementation which supports all these options so this can be decided later. Probably needs a meeting since this is quite a big thing and lots of different opinions.

The very reason of a clearly defined system is to avoid any exceptions or special cases. With multiple categories and a history of previous records we will at some point have hundreds of records. Which means any special cases may mean a lot of extra work.

Also one thing to consider is all time records since they may not be easily broken.

Not to mention cases where players from multiple guilds make a record together.

How I dealt with it, was I required proof that the leader of the original guild was ok with record credit transfer, assuming that the group wishing to transfer the record title met the other criteria (pretty much just having majority of the party members, i.e. 3/5).

Just thought I’d share that. It’s up to Wethospu and the community whether or not they wish to continue with the precedents I set.
