I got a question. Would it be a DPS increase to use Arcing Slice on a single target if you do not have Berserker’s Might? It does almost 2X the damage of an auto-attack I believe

If you dont have that trait you probably use a pure axe build anyway.

Try this build. Drop out Berserker’s might is a great loss, so there is no point to loss even more damage output if you run with EA in the first place.

edit: Yeah, you are right. I will edit the link. However i rewatched the guide by Nike and he also suggests 46040. Isn’t the 15% dmg bonus from Berserker’s might outweight the stat bonuses and Deep strikes?

edit: don’t forget the 10% from attack of opportunity. without mathing I’d say 64 is better but I wouldn’t feel bad running 46 when munching on candied dragon rolls.

I’m trying to not be angry about it, because I love seeing talent recognized, but I hate that so much of A nets focus is on pvp which I find totally abysmal. So even if I could be good at it (I’m not saying I actually have the capability or anything) I wouldn’t want to pvp. It’s just. Ugh.

I don’t like pvp in any game. Maybe I’m just a care bear. Bleh.

@Lilith, I’ve done PVP in the other MMO i’ve played, going all the way back to Rallos Zek in EQ (Flowers of Happiness ftw). But, I’m with you in finding the PVP in this game pretty unappealing. It’d be nice to get this kind of attention on the high end PVE side as well as the PVP, the gems were nice at the dungeon Tournament, but it’s still pretty far off from what we’re seeing here. Be nice to see an ANet hosted tournament with this style as a reward, maybe legendaries or what not like the PVP side is getting.

I find it kind of ironic that anet themselves said they dont have the resources to create armour skins which can be earned in game. Thats why they put them on the gemstore. And yet here they are creating armour skins which will only be available to 15 people. Lol.

All for the sake of esports! Its depressing that they can waste resources on their smallest community with no real gain.

I watched ToL NA and mostly do tpvp when I actually play it, and I found our dungeon tourney 10000x more interesting to watch than plebs vs plebs bunkering on points all day.

GW2 pvp isnt a spectator game. Honestly dont know why they are trying to push for it cause it will never happen.

@maha: No wonder. I couldn’t care less about what the NA team does or can do as the bunker meta is strong here. As I have said, TCG holds my interest, and I’d like to see them wrecking everything. Also I’ve heard that the Chinese is a force to reckon.

The way it is designed, it’s decent to watch, especially when there is a good game. Honestly, after following TCG in the ToL, I think they deserve all this attention at an international stage. I also notice that a PvP stream always gather more audience than a PvE stream, even if it’s a mediocre one. Human nature always leans on the competitive side. Besides, I disagree that the PvP community is the “smallest” one. Even within an elite guild like [SC], their PvP crowd is also as significant as their PvE counterpart.

The reason PvP streams gather more audiences is because anet throw free legendaries and precursors at PvP while pve has zero publicity. We drew 1500 viewers without free precursor giveaways and barely any publicity – so the interest is absolutely there. Also, “hot join pond” are you for —--ing real?

I’m not talking about the two Tourney streams. I’m just talking about the everyday Joe’s stream on twitch at anytime of the day (minus the ones with hot babes playing). There are always sizable amount of viewers on sPvP/Mistpedia tourney. Heck, even I always check out Teldo (who retires infinitely but is arguably one of the best far-point engi in game) whenever he visits sPvP.

I’ll root for you if your team join the next ToL. The way I see it, you’re just opinionated about the game mode you have no noticeable presence (or in Sandy’s words, “not an authority”). On the other hand, I still respect your point of view. Not your cup of tea? Cool. Just move on.

Personally I just don’t find GW2 PVP fun. I’ve liked it in just about every MMO I’ve played up until this one. The way they handled conditions and the downed state just don’t appeal to me. Fighting uneven fights are made even worse thanks to the downed state where you can fight a 1v2-3 and get people down but if you’re unable to finish them off they just get picked up and you’re back to fighting uneven. I’ve fought those odds and downed each team member at least once before being taken down but in the end they all survived. After having that happen to me a couple times I have just basically given up on PVP, it’s not fun to me. If they were to ever take out the downed state I might look again, but for now I find the entire game mode unappealing. And so it doesn’t sound like i’m saying “ahh it’s easy but downed state is dumb” no, I’ve gotten my face smashed too, and I have no problem when that happens, but I just find the condition system to be too much of just a matchup of cooldowns which I don’t find fun, and the downed state I think is just garbage.

I just felt a need to say something because I saw someone in map chat last night in LA saying that this game was a PVP game and if you only play for PVE you should find another game. I literally LOLed at that because if it was just a PVP game I’d have never bought it let alone played as much as I have now because that game mode is just riddled with issues as far as I’m concerned such that I’d have gone WOW/LoL or now Wildstar if I wanted the PVP. I do really miss DCUO for it’s PVP, MMO + Fighting game, it was quite interesting and a really strong core mechanic but the devs killed that game by taking out basically all the advanced play styles.

To those that enjoy it, have at it, I just find it annoying that the devs would create a style for only the top of PVP while giving PVE no where near that attention as of late. It doesn’t help that I’m already upset as someone coming into the game late that I can now not obtain some of the old PVP styles

Although my competative nature led me to join a speedclear guild i still consider it very casual as i dont have to be online at set times to practise with my team. I can play whenever I want. :P

As someone who has done it in the past. Simply because it’s fun. In other games I had looked at the PVE as the extra bit. It was me being able to take my character through some story lines of PVE for fun in between PVPing mainly. Of course for me I go back and forth between which mode I like at any time, but again GW2 is the first game where the PVP just didn’t appeal to me at all.

I have no problem with some skins only availlable in certain game modes. But I can only shake my head at this exclusive tournament winners only armor given what spoj recited from Anets official stance on the matter of armor skins.
It just shows again how much of a stepchild character pve has in GW2. At least WvW got exclusive weapon skins for season 2.

And for the revord, I play GW2 across all game modes pve, pvp and wvw. I’ll admit that I spend most of my time in pve, but that is due to the things I find lacking in pvp for example.
All you get is 3 point domination. Yes, sometimes with some cute variation, but it’s still 3 point domination at its core. The closest we have to alternate play modes are the minigames like aspect arena or keg brawl. But those are mini games, not normal pvp.
(And I know there now exists a deathmatch map…)

I think the two ideas “gw2 is a pvp game” and “anet wants gw2 to be a pvp game” are very different fundamentally. Anet, however, adores the casual pve player base because we fund their job (high five to all the excessive gem buyers, yeah!). High end pvp players help anet by being competitive and flashy and attention grabbing. So these competitive events gravitate toward that. I don’t think they really thought about a pve tournament until we brought it up here on this here forum, but they were obviously glad to support it (because it was handled professionally and in good structure, see gwscr and the way the tourney discouraged exploits and encouraged smart thoughtful play unlike.. another initiative).

The pvp tournaments are already easy to organize. The format and game makes it easy to spectate and make big.

I’m not really happy about an armor set I can’t get. I understand why they are doing it. I am glad that talent is being recognized. I think if we worked with Josh on the next tournament I think they would be open to making it big like the pvp. We just gotta propose it at the right time. Probably not now.

Ugh, there needs to be an option to turn off cutscenes in exp. Sometimes they load quick enough i can press skip or freaking slow as hell while i see people jumping around waiting for me to press skip

Exactly. Which is why it makes no sense to try and push it to be an eSport. And also why i dont understand why people solely play PvP.

I like playing PvP when I want my fix of playing against reactive enemies. If I want something which actually feels challenging ill practice my ele lupicus solo or maybe alphard. I don’t see why just because some people are willing to stomach the same four maps over and over again and bunker points they should be able to earn legendaries while there has been no pve equivalent.

I have to agree with this. In the Fractal CDI, the answer of why we can have a special fractal armor skin for people that get to super high levels in the future amounted to “we dont have a lot of artists who can do armor and they are pretty much working for the gem store 24/7 and every dev team wants them when they aren’t so probably not.” I’ll just add this to the list of things to mention next time some pve update happens and reddit/forumer says, “they never support pvp!”
