Getting Scammed out of a Dungeon
I am willing to bet you are either using Map chat or GW2LFG to find your dungeon runs. And as good as the GW2LFG is for finding quick parties, they do not always end with a happy ending, as it seems you have already found out. There have been numerous threads about this happening to people. I personally have never been kicked, so I don’t really know how you feel. But some people will kick you if they feel you are not pulling your “weight” in the dungeon. To avoid this I would recommend that you find yourself a good Dungeon guild that is willing to help you, as PUG’s can often lead to unnecessary frustration, arguements and kicking from groups. There is a list of some of the Dungeon Guilds that are recruiting on this forum. You can check there to find the one you prefer.

Well as i titled the post the kicking is due to scam. A player that gets kicked 10 to 15 seconds before the final boss gets killed is not kicked due to that player not pulling his own weight. That player is kicked such that he loses his reward.
Secondly at the moment the only way other than using your guild to get a dungeon party is to go on gw2lfg or map chat and get a party. And there shouldn’t need to be more ways, that’s more than enough. The problem is abusive behavior among players. Taking a player’s dungeon reward is as good as stealing his gold. If a player spends 30 – 45 min farming gold and that gets stolen it is the same concept. Getting kicked when the boss is at 10% hp means you do not have enough time to join the group again even if it were possible. You are essentially being used to farm another players dungeon reward.
The solution cannot possibly be “Do not join a public party”. Getting your dungeon reward stolen is just as good as getting your money stolen or getting items stolen or getting your account hacked. One easy solution could be to increase the number of votes needed to kick a player from a party based on the amount of players in that party. Meaning 5 players 4 votes required, 3 players 2 votes ect. this would at least stop players from being kicked at the end of a dungeon due to simple things such as arguments or dislikes between 2-3 players.
Also i already am in a guild and as you know even making a post on gw2lfg it can take several min to fill up your party and the entire Europe/American population can see your post meaning thousands of players. Where even most guilds barely have a hundred players. Also there is a certain percentage of guild wars players that might not want to join a guild, so are we supposed to tell them to just fend for themselves and deal with their own problems ?

Screenshot the names of the people in the party the second you enter it. If they kick you at the end, report ALL OF THEM.

I do many dungeons and this has never happened to me, however i have seen it happen to others, and every time it has happened, there was a very good reason for it. The person getting kicked was awful and intentionally not pulling their weight. Not using virtues, auto-attacking and slacking off in the back, or wearing full magic find or argueing and picking fights with other players.
Just earlier I was in fotm 48 with a godawful guardian, he didnt touch his virtues and his main wep that he camped was scepter. He failed to use projectile stoppers (SOA/WOR) when required and when we got the end of dredge, kept getting killed by the ice elemental boss and screwing the teammates over trying to res him. Multiple times I asked myself whether I should kick him, but I kept saying no, we can just carry him, im on my guardian, we can do it.. but the reality was, it was essentially a 4 man party with him, he was useless. I even tried to ask him to use his virtues (politely) etc, but was ignored. He had a friend in the group (from his guild) as well, and I suspected it would cause trouble if we kicked this guy. If as you propose, we needed 4 votes to kick, we would never have been able to get rid of this idiot. In this case, my hesitation was our demise in the end, as the new build hit, he decided to leave and we couldn’t replace him due to the separate versions of the game. We ended up 4 manning ice ele and surprise it was easy peasy without him. Unfortunately we could not finish the run.
TL:DR kick feature is important. Yes people can abuse it but most of the time there’s a good reason for getting kicked. I believe alot of the time, the person at fault is oblivious to the problems they are causing in the party and never see the kick coming, even if its happened to them multiple times before. My suggestion to you is to find out exactly what it is that’s going on for you to get singled out so many times and fix it.

Did not get kicked, but after a wipe on one boss at the very end of the run our party leader quit…..and we all lost the reward.
This is why gw2 needs a good lfg like in wow, swtor, rift, nwo and any other mmo not stuck inthe dark ages.
And kicks need to be at least 3 people. Preferaly 4, with a timer lockout
Seriously can’t understand theese problems, never experienced them.
I’ve never been kicked from a dungeon party, but I usually make sure the mood of the party is good. I always join random PUG’s, and always test the waters sorta speak. I see if they are generally nice people, because I want to have fun during the run. If they sound like elitist jerks, then they probably are. Often less experienced players are the most fun to join up with.
IF you stopped arguing maybe you would not be kicked.
Yeah that’s a good point. I never argue with anyone on my team. We generally get along fine, and accept the fact that one of the players takes the role of the party leader. Follow directions, so everyone agrees on the same strategy, and there’s really nothing to argue about.
I’m surprised some players can have such different experiences from mine. Usually when I’m in a team, we’re making jokes and yelling out funny quotes the whole run.
Ill admit that the mood could be one deciding factor of the reason. But my point still stands 2 votes needed for a kick. And again , this is not a matter of pulling weight. Players do not kick you the last 15 seconds of a dungeon because they don’t like your contribution. They do it to spite you and while your out of the party they finish it either with a party of 4 players or the new added 5 sec participant. This happens when the final boss has a hp value of 5-10% meaning they don’t need a full squad to finish.
So you’ll agree its fair to give 2 players the power to kick a player in the final moments of a dungeon ? That is insanity. The reason I am posting is because i have heard of this happening to many players. This even happens when a fight occurs between 2 players. If there is no way to report abusive players, this will open opportunity for other players to do the same. How great it must be to simply kick a player in the last 15 seconds if you have an argument. You waste 40 min of their time and the kick is untraceable.
I like the idea of just tapping your print screen button in a party to have their names available. Then at least you can navigate to forums and report them there. Though this is a roundabout way to achieve something. it is still by far the most constructive solution that we have at the ready. Thanks for that
Also Cameirus.8407. You make a good point. Opening the dungeon essentially makes you the party leader. Which is the current solution i have to the problem. You cant get scammed when your the leader because the scammers get kicked too. But the point stands not one or 2 players should have absolute power over the party. If gw2 had a internal lfg as you mentioned it would be much simpler. Even if its based off their very own PvP mach up system.
swiftpaw.6397. You also make a great point. And that was a good example. Think about this: What if the guardian you were trying to help by telling him what skills to use decided to cote kick you because you were annoying him ? His guildy would surely have kicked you and you might have been in that fractal the last hour and a half and lost it all. It is also true that you wouldnt be able to kick this gaurdian if 4 votes required.. But how about if it worked like a voting system truly works meaning 3/5 voted YES, and 2/5 Voted NO meaning the player gets kicked due to winning vote.
(edited by BrownEye.3081)
Tbh it wouldnt have bothered me because both he and the guildy were so bad I felt like leaving anyway XD. Would have saved me some time if that had happened. I lost it all anyway because the baddie left right after the new build. I still stand by the 2 person kick system, it’s saved me time in the past with getting rid of people at the start of the dungeon. And I really have never seen anyone kick someone to get a friend in for the reward at the end, ever :o
Also I believe that i conduct myself in a respectful manner, and that politely asking someone to do something constructive for the team isn’t going to get me kicked. He ignored my advise and that was the end of it. I have a clean record of never being kicked (so far) from any dungeon, and I have handed out polite advice many a time. it’s either received well or ignored, but no one ever reacts so aggressively. However, if I was aggressive towards them and harassed them, and that motivated them to kick me, then I would deserve that kick regardless.
I have seen alot of people wait till the end to kick someone out of spite for being a bad player though, People like getting revenge and all that crap. They never add anyone else, the boss dies, and 4 people get the reward. My opinion on this is to kick someone the moment you know they’re bad, or deal with it through to the end.
A few weeks back i joined a fotm pug halfway through, and it appeared that the thief in the group had gotten into an argument with the other players over something silly. When I joined they quietened down and got back to business, then right at the end of jade maw the thief who had been arguing and saying passive aggressive things got kicked. When I asked why, they said it was purely because they didn’t like his attitude. He was not repalced, 4 people got the reward. There are alotta pugs out there that really like to take the spiteful path when there’s a disagreement and kick the person right at the end to untimely waste their time.
The fact you are saying it’s happened multiple times to you, (and in the span of one week) really astounds me as I’ve never seen it happen once. I have 3146 hours logged and made 2 legendaries purely by running pug dungeons.. so I’ve done a crap ton, I literally live in dungeons and I’ve never seen someone get kicked for a friend.
How do you know that’s why they are kicking you? I’m always in the party, I see the aftermath of someone getting kicked, what people say and the chatter in the party chat after the person’s kicked. But the kicked person has no clue, they cant see what’s happening in chat after that, and they don’t know whether they were replaced by just another random pug or a ‘friend’ as you claim. The people who kicked you would have to whisper you and tell you ‘hey we kicked you for a friend to take your reward.’ for you to know, wouldn’t they? The reason I mention this is because, at least based on my average of 10 hours per day pug dungeon grinding, the occurrence of someone getting kicked just for a friend and no other reason has been extremely low, in fact 0. and you say it’s happened multiple times in a week. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, I’m sure it does, but it’s not such a common occurrence.
Perhaps a real solution here would be that there is a lock function where a member cannot be kicked whilst in combat with (or having arrived at) the final boss of an instance. This would eliminate spite kicking, and people will be more motivated to get rid of poor players at the start of the instance instead of wasting time and then getting kitten ed off and kicking the liability at the end.

swiftpaw.6397 yes that’s a good point. Its the spite kicking that bothers me. The reason i tiled the post scam is due to the replaced player and to be truthful it has only happened about 2 times which isn’t that major. For the most part it is as you mentioned “spite kicking” for revenge. Its quite underhanded but it works like a charm. This happens to me more often due to arguments, because i am the first to jump in and argue a point obviously. As i know this is a bad trait to have i have never had the need to kick a player the last 10 seconds to spite him.
If i were kicked any other time during the dungeon due to arguments it would be understandable and actually more fair since now i don’t have to play another 20 min just to get kicked at the end. Thats why i also like your point of kicking a player the moment there is a problem
Your idea of not allowing kicks during final boss fight is great, more specifically it would be more useful if kicking becomes impossible when the final boss is below half hp. This would mean spite kick would become impossible unless the 4 party can totally solo the last boss. Which is less frequent.
Also if a player plays bad during the final boss fight or DC’s or any other equivalent action that would warrant a kick, that party would probably wipe and then the boss would reset enabling kick again. It is a very good idea. I like it.
Also about the way that i know i was replaced: the times that i have realized the circumstances were the same. I was whispered by a player at the start to join the party. That player not necessarily being the culprit since you have no idea who kicks you. But what happens is you get kicked when the boss is 5%. Everyone knows when you get kicked. You are bounced out of the party and the dungeon. Since your party chat disappears you see the old whisper of that player and in an attempt to get your reward you right click his name and say ‘join’ to which reply you get “Party is full”. Which obviously means you have been replaced since no1 attempts to get a better player when the final boss has 5% hp. Also i have in a case whispered a player and then he replied that someone else joined and he couldn’t give me the name since he “already finished” the dungeon. For all i know it could have been him. But that’s basically the grub.
I still think the above mentioned solution is a great idea. You do not need the kick function when the final boss is below half hp.
(edited by BrownEye.3081)
I agree with you Browneye. Not only was I kicked! I was the ONLY one pulling wieght, ressing and all that. So for those who said you were not pulling weight, you should know that to hear something like that kitten es a man off. When I tried to rejoin the party was already full (so quickly cmon). All I could do was report the guy who posted on gw2lfg since he was the one to post most likely he was in cahoots. And you are right It should tell you who kicked you, you get no reward man for a 2hr long Fractal run that’s saying something. It only happened to me once but one time is enough to get you raging.
While it has never happened to me it’s obviously a possibility.
I just find it highly improbable that it has happened in such frequency to the OP.
Never been kicked, but my block list has grown past its 50th mark. I block those that I kick so I never have to suffer their presence in any dungeon again. I’m sure all of us run dungeons for money/tokens/chests. Who on earth has time to scheme and plot “Oh let me pug a run with players I know nothing about and slot in my friends at the last moment”? If my friends were online I’d have invited them into my party right from the start. They’re in my friend list for a reason; we play well together.
As Swiftpaw mentioned, we tolerate with a lot of things that get on our nerves. Not using virtues, blocks, condition removals (everyone SHOULD bring their own and not whine to the nearest Ele or Guard), not paying attention, camping in same spot, not rezzing downed, giving attitude. A lot of times I try my best to bear with such things, and my ability to handle crap lessens as the dungeon progresses. So chances are by the time I decided to kick someone, it’d be at least past the 75% mark. Last nerve.
I like the current system. Nothing is more frustrating than a having party mate in Arah who asked if we knew what we were doing (4 DMs including me), died at Lupi P2 over 7 times, demanded we rez his pathetic kitten, and having NOBODY agree to the kick. Because the other 3 decided to give him a chance. We 4-manned the dog. Then the other 3 decided they’ve had enough when he spawned not 1, but 3 wraiths at the final boss of P3. So it’s less of a scam than a ’we’ve had enough of BS’.
This happens to me more often due to arguments, because i am the first to jump in and argue a point obviously
Well, there ya go. Cause and effect.
You must be one hell of a kitten. Yep, I even deliberately typed kitten.
I’m hardly the friendliest person to PuG with and I’ve literally never been kicked over an argument. I’ve been hounded by lag and played appallingly from the get go and haven’t been kicked.
The only reason I believe you, and many other people that make posts like this, have this problem is that you’re both 1) a bad player and 2) a kitten about how bad of a player you are. Trying to be the ‘party leader’ when someone has already assumed the mantle creates trouble, arguing at all creates trouble. You really have to ask yourself whether arguing over a certain tactic is worth starting trouble or whether its easier to just do things their way, also if you’re the one getting kicked, their way was right.
Also ignorant comments like “I’m ranged” or mentioning that you’re wearing any gear other than Berserker’s can stir up a few people in the party, but that comes down to being a leech on your team which is just point No# 1.

I believe this happens because they want to then abort the boss and sell the slot. You see people selling the slots for dungeons at the last boss sometimes and I assume this is how they get to that point… at least some of the time. Seems easier to shaft some random they don’t know than to sacrifice someone they do for a little bit of gold.
They really need to up the vote to kick to 3 people. I had a similar issue during MF happen to me – noone down the whole run, quick, no issues, just kicked so the two guilded guys could get one of theirs in for the jetpack probably . Really soured my whole experience of running dungeons and using group finder for a while.
Probably not going to be able to get rid of people with the Elitist mentality that dungeons should “only take x minutes,” “one down, you’re out,” or “not optimum build not in my party.” But since I started doing dungeons again, I’ve realized that the group of people who are Elitist or kicking people for the rewards are a small group out of the whole population – it just stings a lot when it happens to you, esp. if it’s for no fault of yours.
I’ve regularly run dungeons since launch, and of the hundreds of runs I’ve probably done up to this point, I’d say 99% of them are fine, but it’s always the crappy 1% that one always remembers. One time a guildie and I were doing a TA run with 1 pug, and 2 other dudes who happened to be in the same guild. While we were autoattacking the final tree boss to death, those two guildies systematically kicked all three of us in the end out of spite. Yes, two people kicked three others!
So I also have a big problem with the kick system. If two people want to kick you, and two people disagree, then you’re screwed. Having two people being able to overrule three others in a group is blatantly unfair.
This happened to me a few days ago – fighting at the end boss then suddenly I see a loading screen and no party. Fortunately, my revenge was more than swift, because I was the leader of the party.
It’s easy to identify these types when you join a group – so either zone in first for insurance, or find another group. I always specify that I am only looking for friendly people for my group.

Slot sellers should just go die in a fire. So far I’ve only seen people selling slots for Arah P4. 25g? Seriously? No dungeon is worth paying for.

Why are you so hostile? My friends and I went through P4 with 4 us just before (few hours ago) and sold the last slot to a very appreciative player for 10g. A lot of people both in my guild(s), and my friends list run paths either solo or as a team and will fill the empty slots with ‘leechers’ at the end. Sometimes we just decide to ‘sell’ our spot at the end of a run as well, if we decide we’d rather have gold than tokens. How is that morally wrong?
Any dungeon path is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. If someone would rather do something else and earn gold than spend x amount of time doing a dungeon path, that’s their choice.

I’m referring to those who sell slots, and after you pay, they kick you out and sell that spot. Again and again. Also, buying their way to P4 defeats the purpose of earning the title Dungeon Master.
But you’re right, where there’s demand, there’ll be supply. Kicking a legit player only to sell their slot IS immoral. But if someone advertises honestly on lfg and someone decides that the only way he can complete P4 is to pay for it, so be it. It’s a business transaction. There’ll be scheming sellers just as there’ll be suckers willing to pay to leech for credit. Those are for people unwilling to L2P anyway.

How a kick system can be implemented without requiring at least 3 people’s approval is just beyond me.
Then again, this isn’t the first time they take the lazy road with coding.
