Here is my melee solo since some were hating on my poor little scepter. This was definitely more difficult and seemed to only take less time since I put on knights/berserker armor instead of my ptv set. It took me a few more tries than doing it with a scepter and unfortunately I deleted the video where he just decided to walk away and reset as I hitting him. My hate deepens for those locusts….

I never knew this either for the longest time. I have Wethospu to thank for knowing that and when to dodge the grub mark.

It is very subtle and easy to miss. Every other animation tends to be this if you stay in melee range which helps to know when to dodge. He is a bit mean sometimes and does it 2x in a row.

Good job! Melee is always more impressive than ranged.

Sword is really bad dps weapon for that and he mostly uses autoattack. Plus 0/10/30/30/0 and his gear give him 2033 toughness and 1395 vitality, that’s rather tanky.

Aaaand you get blues. I know the droprate is the same as if you went with a group, but it’s still low as hell.
But great job! I havn’t actually had the chance to fight lupicus yet, so i do not know how difficult he actually is.

I see haviz he is using pretty tanky gear, makes sense since he was living through the kick. Im on my phone so i cant really tell.

Note which post of mine you’re quoting, my good man. I state the other 5 classes are inferior to warrior/guard/ele for these reasons and do not insinuate guardians have high DPS.

Mesmer would have an easier time than guard.

As I said, I’d love to be proven wrong and see the solo kill. Anyone up to the challenge?

Considering lupi is a skill check and not a dps check every class can solo him even if you did 1 damage a hit.

I wouldn’t say he’s definitely soloable as necromancer.

And why not? Really the only hard part is do i have enough endurance and how do i live through the bubble or negate it. Food can cover endo if you lack it.

Food is just 40% of vigor, I’m more concerned about his AoE life drain where you would need to summon flesh wurm but its recharge is too long to be used reliably. General lack of swiftness (warhorn plus one utility) doesn’t help either. Necro was designed like that – his high basic health pool plus death shroud compenstates for lack of defensive skill but it might be not enough for lupi which generally requires more active aproach. I know it’s rather poor proof but usually when I pug, necros are the first ones to die.

Really top thing to worry about in each phase.
Phase 1 is bugs, as a glass cannon ele they hit for 4.5-5.5K each and if you dont move correctly in meled vs lupi so you can aoe them down they can 3 shot you. Necros get more health to buffer this.
Phase 2 is the auto attack nuke you have to avoid if you leave melee range to dodge the aoes, 1 shot as a glass cannon ele.
Phase 3 is the bubble which you counter with ports or stability.

You pretty much know this since you have soloed him on your guard but i dont see much of an issue on any class killing lupi. Its just slower on some than others.

I agree with the active approach part. From my own experience as a necro, in phase 2 if lupi targets only me I won’t make it: need to dodge more often than my endurance allows. No blocks, no invulnerability skill. Just DS. Haven’t tried the 40% endurance food yet though. There might be hope if a necro were to go full PVT with 30 SR, so DS can soak up about 3 full force blows. I’m not sure if you can regenerate LF fast enough though. Possibly with D/F + A/W or something. Necro’s have it rough.

If you stay in lupi’s melee range only thing you need to dodge is AoE and his kick.

It’s pretty much what he said. The 1h are weak and I need the offhand skills to get by. I don’t even have a full set of berserkers since it’s kind of a waste on a guardian since they are fairly weak and built for survival and not power. We aren’t warriors. I could have gone with more power traits but it wouldn’t have made too much of a difference. I would have liked to put the last 20 points in Honor into Radiance to get a buff to sword and 15% more crit chance since the Honor traits I have are a bit of a waste but I need the extra hp since I know it will be a long fight and I will get hit by a kick or a swipe and that will 1 shot me. I’m also not going for a speed run or anything I’m just trying to get it done. I only put on my knight/berserker set over my ptv set because I needed to deal with the locusts and I could barely do that as is. One of the hardest parts of the solo is just figuring out a set up and strategy (especially one you are comfortable with) to get through it.

I agree a mesmer could do it and a lot faster. I was going to give it a shot but I think I’m done after this one and I’ve only used a mesmer at lupi once but it seemed viable. I was going to do full berserker gear + ruby jewels and get 25 stacks of bloodlust to make up for no power triats, sword + sword (energy), sword + focus (energy), with the build I made up (fixed link) http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcmmzmczMMganmMganm0xaGamakccRm

I was thinking about doing that too since I use focus 5 as my last resort for bubbles and a gs would be real nice for those locusts and to make it go faster. I like having it at phase 2 to deal with the red circles though and it gave me a few seconds of block to deal with the locusts at 1 to make up for the lack of power. In the end I just went with what I’m comfortable with since I figured that would give me a better shot at it.

A necro would indeed be impressive, I’ve thought about doing it but as a condition necro with only 18k health it doesn’t look like it would work out and I don’t have the resources to spend in another set just to solo this.

I might give it a try though, but phase 2 would be indeed tough, if you stay at range the shadow step will give you trouble but if you stay close the circles might kill you, we have no 3 sec invulnerable skills. Phase 3 bubble could be done with 30 points in soul reaping.

I have to be able to solo the abomination on my Mesmer before Arah will let me go at Lupi. Abomination is rather unforgiving in glass light armor. =|

Hm the thing with rangers would be grubs spawning on the pet. So not kiling the grubs then would result in giving him high stacks of empower, making the encounter quite a bit harder if you get hit. Anyone here having some good advices ? Would it be doable with a dead pet or does he still spawn grubs on them ?

As far as I know, grubs don’t spawn on pets, illus and NPC’s anymore.

During normal rotation no, but they will spawn grubs on the last one during phase change. Whatever is closest to him during the change will get a grub.
