Oh, you spent weeks leveling to 80 for no reward other than bragging rights?

Yeah, I’m going to need you to hand that over…

Taking this amount of hard work from players with no reward is NOT OK

Suggestions:

  • Title “Master of the mists”, “Fractal master”, etc for level 80s
  • Cash: Give everyone over 50 some money based on their fractal level
  • Second characters: Give everyone who leveled multiple characters in fractals a reward based on their second characters level

Depends what you call an exploit. Before January, it was completely possible to go to 80 without exploiting.

After that, all you needed was someone to open the level for you (you can decide if you’d call that an exploit or not), and you could progress without exploiting the maps or fights at all.

It’s not exploiting to run odd fractals. Stop accusing players, the players who are likely the best gw2 pve has to offer, of exploiting when you know nothing about it.

They do deserve compensation. If those folks who got compensation for their infinite gathering tools got it, why shouldn’t people who actually play the kittening game be compensated? Ridiculous.

If they had wanted to really cap fractals, they should have made it impossible to launch a level higher than 49. They never did that.

So they don’t have to punish us for progressing when they’re the ones who let it be possible. We wasted weeks of time with completely crappy rewards, and now they bash us to the ground with absolutely nothing to compensate ?

This is just a slap in the face for all players that worked really hard to reach fotm 80. What will I have to show for the countless hours, armor repair costs, crappy rewards for reaching that? Absolutely nothing. I just can’t accept this, it’s too saddening that I don’t even get to keep my lvl. I don’t think any amount of gold could ever compensate me for this. Seriously Anet, get your kitten together. Don’t punish your players for loving your game and playing all the content to its maximum. It’s bad business.

There was no ‘compensation’ for people who lost MF gear.

If they wouldn’t even compensate players who lost actual ‘items’ I doubt they’ll compensate players who will lose ‘progress’.

But I feel for you guys. Losing anything that is important to you personally hurts.

Personally, I’ll only be losing about 3 reward levels because I stopped progressing in fractals due to the bad loot.

They should give every lvl 80 fractal a tittle or anything to show off with cause just resetting them is bad. They went up that high with a lot of effort and they also showed you what the problem is of high lvl fractals. So a tittle would please the people that put effort into progression and it will not influence much ingame.

I’m not going to beat a dead horse, but I doubt even you consider this compensation. What good is choosing any stat combo when you already have a set of armor that has your best stats? I can have two sets of zerker armor instead of a MF set and zerker set? Thanks. No need for us to argue this point though, since that ship has long sailed and opinions on the comensation widely vary.

I really wonder how people feel about losing the ability to get multiple daily chests with the new account bound reward level?

This is a serious question, I’m not trolling but rather unsure. A lot of people have brought up the question of whether getting to 80 required an exploit of at least some kind and I’m curious about the truth of it.

I know that at one point it was possible to get above 50 by using various exploits to get around getting killed by agony on Maw. After that was no longer possible, what people did was have a higher level player open an odd number fractal above your level, so that you didn’t have to worry about agony from Maw but could still increase level.

So my question is, was or is there a way to reach level 80 without either exploiting oneself or enlisting the help of someone who had exploited at one point? I think the answer really matters to how we ought to view folks who are being reset down to 30.

I’m personally sitting at 48 so I’m not thrilled but I know 30 onwards are being made harder so it also wouldn’t make sense for us to jump in at at 48.

Getting around agony on maw isn’t an exploit – you just ressurect someone after the agony passes. (Res orbs, pet res etc) Back in the 35AR days (After the “nerf”) it was still the technique of choice for doing 48s.

Even if you consider that an exploit (It’s not) the players that came afterwards didn’t need to use any to level.

Lastly, there is no benefit from hitting 80 other than bragging rights (And even that was taken from us in this patch) and it’s undeniably the biggest pve challenge in game.

We deserve some form of compensation. (I’m going to do a bunch of 79s before we don’t get any any more)

I do not agree. Downgrading to 30 is not that big of a deal. I played high level fractals for the fun and the teamwork. Playing high level fractals was its own reward. I do not need special recognition to prove my self worth.

I hate the idea of a leader-board by the way. It is ridiculous.

I don’t believe anyone used a true ‘exploit’ to get to 80. ANet certainly didn’t intend for the player base to be able to reach this high of a fractal level and a dev has said that much.

Some players are just very ingenious and use creativity to be able to get further than what is intended. These tactics are very creative, but they were not abusing or glitching aspects of the game for progress so they were not exploiting.

That’s a good laugh. It was always an exploit to get to 80. This is my opinion though based on the following facts:

How Jade Maw Works:

  • At Difficulty Scale 50+, the Jade Maw’s Agony does 1172% of the player’s health. (You need 950+ AR to survive) There’s no way to avoid or mitigate this damage; everything was tried
  • Difficulty Scale 2-48 Jade Maw and below functions slightly differently than Difficulty Scale 50+.
    • 2-48 Maw will apply Agony is only applied to a player once they step past the trigger point. (Jumping from the rock) If you manage to survive this, or if you are revived by those that did, it does not re-apply.
    • 50+ Maw’s agony applies again if a player is revived within the trigger area; using a Revive Orb is a waste of time because it kills you again straight away.
  • It was not always like this though. 50+ Jade Maw used to function like 1-48 does now. Thus, players made strategies based around having at least one person surviving and then reviving the rest of their party.

The Strategies to Beat 50+

  • At first you could simply die on the edge of the floating rock leading to the Jade Maw. This was barely on the trigger area of Agony, so you could inch over and die within revive range. The party could easily get their teammate back up who then revived the rest of them.
  • This rock was moved so that this was no longer possible. However, players found out they could still revive the defeated player from afar using Search and Rescue from a Ranger. They also could have the defeated player pop a Revive Orb and then revive the rest of their party.
  • It’s also worth mentioning that a Guardian casting Binding Blade on the Jade Maw’s tentacles yielded 6-10 Reflecting Crystals depending on when it was cast. This allowed players to kill the Jade Maw in “phase 2” and skipping its second Agony. This made the Revive Orb strategy a lot less expensive.
  • The final change to 50+ Agony was that you (presumably) must survive it, as it re-applies. It’s hard to tell though since it’s impossible to survive it. (You need 950+ Agony Resistance in order to do so) However, players could grind their way to 80 by being “boosted” by someone who already has level 80. (Someone level 80 could start a Difficulty Scale 51 and completing it would boost a player with Difficulty Scale 50 to 51, thus skipping the Jade Maw entirely. Repeat this process 28 more times and presto, you’re level 80)

Was it an exploit? Probably. However, since ArenaNet intentionally tried (and failed) to make it impossible to progress past 50, it was fair game.

not everything that is beyond your skillcieling is an exploit I know I Play extraordinary good for getting to lvl 81 but still it sin’t an exploit beeing able to dodge agony attacks. organize reflects and projectile absorbs and blinds or hitting instant invul when you get hit with agony… nope it isn’t sorry guys and rez orbs aren’t exploits as well. they did hardcap fractals at 80 so they could easy hardcap it at 50 if they consider doing odd ones an exploit.. sooo hmmm let me think unless you have a dev stating that using rez orbs is an exploit… ehm your wrong guys:)

Because the moves we preformed when we skillfully dodged the agony and played together actually is invisibel for all the Players out there that haven’t done it because they just can’t understand how ppl are that good without exploiting sooo we Need to get a invisibel Thing because our skill is for them invisibel cause they know only the spam 1 champfarmtrain maybe f cause they wipe from time to time but besides that…
