Group is skipping mobs and you die...

Yeah, you are right about it.
At least in my case – as a guardian I can assure other party members safety during skipping, if they follow me and my instructions (I always try to explain how skipping works, if I get some inexperienced people in my party). If someone lagged behind and my shouts didn’t affect him, then I usually offer a taxi run again to lead him through the hairy parts. However, it’s enough if someone will show a bad or arrogant attitude, and I will refuse to help at anything, especially skipping. I won’t even bother to res someone who dies a lot while he pretends to be a 1337 uber pro.
Being honest and modest is a key to civil treatment, be it game or RL – makes no difference to me.
Morale of the story is, skipping is team effort – like everything else in an instance, but some people (mostly those with high speed classes) see it as something members of a team should do on their own. If someone dies during skipping, its their fault just as much as the persons who died.
And yes, its very irritating to have whole party swiftness buff run through and pull everything, only to have to plow through behind them without stability and get hit by all those mobs (yes im thinking of mesmers).
Yet, about 90% of the time I have a pug group and everyone but 1 player makes it through the area alive, the guy who dies proceeds to flame the team and has quite often quit(or kicked, depending on how they acted). The worst part is that their quit can often spark off other quits…
I speed run dungeons extensively and I’ve actually never had an experience like that.
My advice is that look at user names and try to start a conversation with your group and look a their writing. Writing reflects a person’s intelligence, and naming is the essence of one’s writing skills. Group only with people of intelligence, at least enough to know how to be polite.
Also, use your blocklist. If a person sounds stupid, /block immediately. It sames a lot of headache later on.
Only time I’ve skipped and someone couldn’t make it was after the first boss in the first path of arah, some classes can’t get through that without a specific build.
I don’t pug often and even when i do i have a couple of guildies with me. our unwritten and unspoken rule is if we feel like skipping we should be prepared to escort those who died trying to skip mobs.
As for ppl that rage at their teammates, thankfully I haven’t met one of those yet. It achieves absolutely nothing and it makes a run painful. Personally kicking (sometimes one man down is easier than having someone ruining the team atmosphere) or blocking (where kicking is not possible) is probably the best idea rather then sitting through all the garbage they type on your screen
(yes im thinking of mesmers).
As a mesmer, I feel your pain, literally.

I don’t play my mes often because I LOVE mobility on my class. When I did, I’d always bring the 2 illusion stun breaker and instantly use distortion when there’s enemies nearby. That with blink would usually get me through but it wasn’t as easy as it is on most classes.

The problem I typically find is after 1 or the group has run the mobs do not reset to their original standing point, and this can make it more difficult to run with some classes.
I have guildies who are not that good at skipping (class related) and when they go first run they normally make it, but when they go after someone when they do not know where mobs will be to time specific skills they just die over and over. That 1 pug who will not run with the group and just runs ahead almost always kills the rest of the group for this reason (normal agro free path now has agro or just mobs not where you expect and hard to run by for some classes after).

Guess I will chip in. As a mesmer when skipping, my advice is to set the following skills.
Decoy (stunbreaker + invisibility), Blink (stunbreaker + teleport). If you really need it, Veil (invisibility). And if you really really need it, Mass Invisibility.
Focus 4 – Temporal Curtain -> Into the Void is great. Place it just in front of the mob. Once you gain the swiftness buff, Into the Void to pull the mob behind you.
Staff 5 – Chaos Storm. I don’t use this often but you can coat yourself with swiftness and aegis before skipping.
i use mesmer too
I die when people don t say “skip”
That is annoying….
Writing skip in chat doesn t require nor skill nor that much time.
Expecially since for glasscannons skipping is not as easy as for a tank. (i have a tank too)
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
As a frequent skipper, I have never experienced any of this. (I have also played Mesmer heavily)
Guess I don’t run with PuGs often enough.

ever since I got into a good guild, I don’t often experience this. However, since I like to recruit other good players into the guild, I do pugs every once in a while and have to suffer through this. It isn’t all the time, but most of the time when an “experienced” player (in their eyes) fails to do something, the immediately blame the team. Often, it’s best to have all first timers since they are usually the most willing to listen and learn. Some of my best groups are with newbies who are open to suggestion.

Thats a problem. And some PuGs don’t like to chat. What I do is. When I’m joining someone’s game, I will type “skip or fight”… sometimes with the mob’s name. If I’m leading, I will type “skip”. Most of the time someone will respond. But in case it is one of those silent groups, I will always assume we are skipping (since i join games that specified skipping trash) and adjust my skillsets as such.
