I quit playing GW2 a while back when I realized that the stat set I enjoy running the most (full ascended Nomad’s) in fractals and dungeons wouldn’t cut it for the raids.

My question is, have they done anything to the raids that would allow me to participate in my favorite gear?

If it’s a matter of “switch to Sinister or Berserker, Magi, etc.” I’d rather just keep playing the MMO I’m currently playing.

Thanks.

You could probably gear up some kind of hybrid Nomad/Minstrel Chronomancer and tank provided you get enough boon duration, but I can’t imagine going fully defensive as a dps class in timed encounters leads to anything good.

It is recommended to run a nomads/minstrel chrono if you low-man content past the enrage timer. It is also useful in some group comps in raiding where it you would have the chrono lose their damage to remove the need for a healer or to add a third healer without having to drop a deepser, some places I have seen this become useful are on:

Matthias
Escort (Tower Chrono, no druid)
Cairn
Demios (Tank)

There are probably others too, but I haven’t seen it become useful anywhere else yet, and tbh you probably aren’t in a place where you would be able to clear that content considering you have never tried raiding.

I couldn’t play Football because they said that my ballet shoes weren’t appropriate footwear. Have they changed the entire sport so that I can participate because I don’t want to change my shoes? If not, I hope they fix this disgusting discrimination that prevents people otherwise shoe-d from participating.

I can only imagine what MMO it is out there that lets people get away with playing zero-skill maximum defense face tank gear and get away with it.

If I had to guess, maybe WoW’s LFR does that. Can’t say for sure though, since I quit that game a long time ago.

Even if something was changed, nobody would be able to answer this question because nomad gear cost way to much to make for very little return on investment.

Even so, I can recall that some guys had fun and upload a video of them doing the val guardian without any gear on them, so it might be doable even if your whole team sell their house for a nomad gear.

So in the end it’s likely that you’ll have more trouble finding a team that accept your fetish than trouble killing your way through the raids in nomad gear.

You can already play in any gear you want. People do raids with weird comps, 5-7 people instead of 10, and all sorts of builds. Understanding the mechanics is far, far more important than your gear.

However, for those of us who have trouble executing on the mechanics (whether because we need more practice or we’re just not as good as we think at combat)… the choice of gear can help turn a wipe into a successful near-wipe (and a near-wipe into an easy win).

Not quite.

Raids are not in a separate game than nomad gear.

Going to assume you would understand how much Toughness Nomad’s brings and thus you would likely be forced into a tanking role…or inconveniencing the rest of the group if you want to try DPSing with it.

That’s a sharp point you got here…

However, for guild wars 2 the reality is that the raid can be done whatever gear you take, it’s, sadly, the community that push players into gearing optimally. On the other hand, I can understand that the players of the community want to safely slay a boss through optimal dps instead of struggling with suboptimal gear.

Believe me at this point going for optimal gear is more important than ever, after the legendary armor got released there has been a huge influx of new/returning players in the scene which is a good thing ofc. Unfortunately it also made pugging a lot more tedious, i used to clear all wings within 3 hours b4 that, now its taking forever due to multiple fails on bosses even on basic mechanics (reflects on cairn etc,no cc on saul, no distort on sloth shakes etc). Suffice to say u will always have to carry some1 either with dps, healing,cc or distorts. If u are planning to pug succesfully atm optimal is definately the way to go. On static/guild runs ofc anything goes.

Yeah it makes sense you want the best chances to clear in a reasonable time frame. If you want to have the freedome to play what ever you like get a group get good with them the you can run w/e everyone likes. Also im curious what mmo does he play and lets him have this freedom

I honestly believe you can totally run Nomad’s on a healing/tank Chrono, If you wouldn’t mind being the tank in every encounter. Obviously, you would need to worry about boon duration, but that’s fixable in some respects. Niche uses maybe on Cairn and Matthias as a heal ele.

@OP: No, raiding hasn’t changed at all, everyone’s still toxic delusional elitist running an elaborate scheme to prevent all newbies from joining raids. There are no boss guides available, no build guides, everyone’s expecting you to have at least one bank tab full of LIs, 60k AP, do at least 50% more DPS than official qT benchmarks and be able to 3-4 man most raid bosses. Logging onto revenant (except deimos) or necro will get you kicked instantly and everyone’s gonna report you for playing a non-existent class. There’s no training raids either, you have to be running raids from the very beginning in order to be able to join (and even then your chances are extremely slim). You also have to be white male between 20 and 40, have wealthy parents and master’s degree in quantum physics.

You can certainly clear all of the raid wings in Nomad gear. You can even clear all of the raid wings with any class wearing any gear.
Anything is fine as long as the other players are willing to and capable of making up for whatever you are missing. The problem starts as soon as there are multiple players like that in the squad.

A Nomad druid wouldn’t even be that terrible. They aren’t that far off from a Magi druid. With the downside of taking aggro off the tank or forcing them into heavy toughness. This won’t matter if you are going to tank yourself, obviously.
You are also trading a lot of precision for a lot of toughness. Something a druid does not need in raids. All though, this isn’t the biggest deal either. Toughness or Precision, your damage will be low either way.
The real downside is losing 500 healing power compared to Magi for no reason at all.

I’d advise you to take Minstrel over Nomad and look for a group willing to try different stuff. Minstrel does come with a lot of toughness but makes up for some of the losses by adding a ton of boon duration instead. A might stacking Minstrel druid like that works pretty well.
All though, it doesn’t sound like that would be an option either. Since you are only going to play exactly the way you prefer or not at all.

I can only imagine what MMO it is out there that lets people get away with playing zero-skill maximum defense face tank gear and get away with it.

In their defense, in other games, being defensive has many more mechanics woven into it, and more benefit for them to play well in those encounters.

tanking endgame content in FFXIV for example is not easier in general, than doing dps or healing.

But he’s not going into a fight in that game as a BM wearing Vit,Det,Crit gears. In fact that game makes it almost literally impossible to do so and already has per-existing roles for tanks set of 3 possible tanks.

So lets make this more simple than that, please show me a well produced game where you can stack your dps in defensive gears and expect to do the hardest possible endgame raids.

you can try to make a few friends and start raiding with what you believe can work. I can tell you… if your attitude is refuse to try meta it will be a long long way before you get your first raid boss kill. the choice is yours. i am not saying your build wont work but , you need to put together a group of 10 people, dishing out a balance between support and maximised total damage output in order to counter the boss plus players able to manage each different boss mechanic well in terms of response and such. if you and your team can achieve that that’s part of the fun. if not, GO META. wont go wrong with meta its all tested and all for you
