Heh... Dungeons...
Definitely me. I’m not much of a raid guy, as much as I am a dungeon guy. Small teams, long paths, multiple challenges to tackle at my leisure.
What I would really like to see, though, is a randomly generated dungeon. Originally Anet attempted this with fractals, but it made them too hard to approach. I’d like to see a dungeon that makes a simple but randomly generated path from a series of different room types, with different bosses and enemies and different environments/puzzles.
Totally! Fractals are lazy cope out from actual world building.
GW2 has dungeons?
I just thought they had a bunch of empty LFG categories they should rename so the overland H.O.T. zones could use them!

Dungeons are also a lot harder to create because they’re bigger. And that’s why you only get new fractals.
Anyone else would have preferred it if anet would focus more on dungeons instead of fractals?
Not me. I like fractals better because there’s always been more variety and more interesting stories, not tied to the personal story.
(I wouldn’t mind another set of armors & weapons tho.)

And only loosely tied to the world. Granted that the stories in dungeons are pretty straightforward. Which Arah definitely wins over fractals and any other dungeon storywise.
Fractals are less interesting in the grand scope of things. It would’ve been nicer if the whole dungeon exploring happened on a higher level.
I still find it funny how Dungeons “died” with merely a nerf to their gold reward. Not much else has changed. Maybe they could update their token rewards.

I wish they didn’t nerf it. It’s hard to find a party for Caudecus’ Manor.
I need 500 tokens for my Quip.

They should have increased the token awards. Thing is, Anet explicitly doesn’t want people to run dungeons anymore. They just didn’t have the balls to cut them entirely, so they gutted their rewards to encourage people to buy HoT drive people towards fractals.

Exactly the problem. ANet pushed Fractals without supporting them. While new Fractals have been mentioned by ANet as coming, they’re ridiculously overdue, as are prestige rewards for doing them. The gold re-skin is a cop-out and the legendary backpiece should have been one of a full set of gear (perhaps multiple sets), or several prestige items, or both. This is why dungeons were still popular after Fractals launched – there wasn’t enough reward to keep people coming back.
I think ANet demonstrated the lessons they had learned in constructing instanced PvE with Fractals (from dungeons being laughably out-smarted by the players) so I was very glad to see the direction ANet was heading in with them… 2 years ago. C’mon ANet.

Path 3 is a pretty easy solo on a thief. I had to resort to it to get the tokens for Minstrel and Moot. You can put up your own ads for group members, but even with ‘lvl 80’ in the description I mostly got lvl 50’s who had no clue where to go, didn’t know the skips or how shadow refuge worked or wanted to fight the huge packs of bandits after Wahlen.
It’s unlikely since the dungeon team has been eliminated form what I’ve heard. In another thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dungeons-plummet-in-pve-content/first#post5917706
I suggested that a possible solution could be to to implement a Dungeon Mastery in the mastery system that unlocks unique content inside dungeons, unique equipment, skins and titles. The criteria to get the Mastery would be that it could only be leveled inside dungeons (some bonus if you’re running with a newbie -less than X AP, and/or under lvl 80-). CoF P1 farming must be nerfed if this or something else is ever going to be implemented to make people come back to dungeons.

It’s obvious to me that people mostly did them for the rewards anyway. Especially with speed runs, people selling them etc. It wasn’t about the dungeon experience anymore, just about the amount of gold. They didn’t explicitly changed the dungeons, you still can get pretty nice rewards from the dungeon vendor. But somehow, the gold gets cut and dungeons aren’t played anymore. It’s just hilarious how blind people are when there’s flat virtual cash involved.
It just shows what was wrong with the dungeons to begin with. In my opinion anyway.

But if we ever get new stuff that’s either fractals or dungeons, it will be fractals for that reason. :P
I have no idea whose hare-brained decision it was to dump dungeons instead of making them better. Fractals and the open world both lack the immersion factor that good world dungeons can provide.

Yeah. Maybe they nerfed dungeon rewards to reduce the amount of liquid gold gained but they could have fixed it by simply giving us more other rewards (tokens,…)
And even if we would get new fractals, i’d still prefer new dungeons. Still better than what we got now i guess? (nothing)
The dungeon team is gone… sure. But from what we have seen in the raid, Anet seems to be more than capable of designing instanced content.
I think maybe they nerfed dungeon rewards to make people stop doing them, because they wanted to get rid of the zerker meta and instead of fixing the game they just killed what promoted the zerker meta.
But guess what? Zerker meta still lives, raids are 99% zerk anyway and i’ve done pretty much everything in HoT in full zerk. Nothing changed.

My opinion is that they nerfed the gold to limit F2P people farming gold with great ease. After all you get a good team, you could dungeon farm and get more gold than what you can out of fractals because of the gold lock behind daily trash.
Fractals you have to work up your AR and reward levels. Dungeons, not so much.

That can’t be it because they could have done what they did to fractals: reduce the rewards dramatically for F2P players but not HoT players (by first reducing rewards for everyone, then giving them back via masteries). P2W FTW.
Every day a new dungeon thread.
When do people realize that dungeons will never come back. Never ever!
It’s over, don’t even think about them.
No thanks dungeons are garbage and would need a major overhaul to be fixed. Nothing fun or enjoyable about running by every mob to get to the end. It’s frustrating to see these things designed just to skip 95% of it. If they did something with dungeons they’d have to overhaul all of them and maybe make it more like the raid trash. Meaningfull trash, that is fun and has it’s own mechanics, can’t be skipped but rewards you for your effort. Like…miniboss trash. As for their current design. Hell no.
And there you just described much of the new HoT maps. /shrug
I miss them. I simply cannot understand why Anet would abandon them. Don’t get it at all.

Pretty obvious. Dungeons were intended to be challenging hardcore content and turned out to be easy-peasy, speed runable, soloable, sellable farming grounds.
So they reacted in their typical way- instead of reworking them (players gave tons of suggestions) they simply lessened their attractivness, so they can lay back in the good old “why fix a broken car that no one wants to drive anyway” way.

For sure. I’ve always loved the dungeons, then again I don’t speed run them, and I’ve done them hundreds of times and still enjoy them. Plus, the collections at least give you a little bit of incentive to keep running them.
Fractals bore the crap out of me TBH, it’s the same handful of maps just, with increasing handicaps that screw you over and make you waste more time. And raids… yeah… after getting told I don’t have the right gear to run raids by multiple groups, I don’t want to go anywhere near that elitist-fest. Honestly, I’d love to see a whole new slew of dungeons over new Fractals and Raids, but that’s just me.

.
And what was wrong with this? Instead of wasting time putting effort and resources into old content, they still could have created new dungeons with the experience they have learned from the game. It’s more the idea of abandoning dungeons as a concept totally I find bizzare. I literally cannot think of another single MMo that did this.

May be you took me wrong, may be I expressed myself wrong, but I’m totally with you. Dropping dungeons as a concept was just a poor and lazy way to handle the described situation.
If it would be too costly to revamp the existing dungeons, they could just have been honest and admit “ok, our dungeons didn’t provide the challenge/experience we intended” and further “so we decided to lower the rewards for the existing ones and to deploy a new dungeon team, working on new dungeons with all the gathered information of 3 years of GW2 in mind.”
Instead they took the lazy way.

To me fractals are what dungeons should’ve been. Fractals are pretty well-designed, hell even in my 3 years I still fall off Uncategorized. Noob/pro it doesn’t matter, you’re STILL going to fall off Uncategorized! However, dungeons should not be abandoned. They should’ve been fixed long ago.
As for raids, I’m with you. Keep that toxic nonsense out of my sight.
