Q:

So last night my friends and I did CoE explore for the first time and chose the front door path. This isn’t a QQ about Subject Alpha (while he is pretty hard I did like that by the end of the dungeon we actually took him down with only four in the party =D). No, my question is about how to clear the room with the lava and Evolved Destroyer troll being protected by the shield.

We had one Ranger with 1500 range. Next highest range was Engineer’s mortar elite. Finally it was me the Guardian with 1200 on scepter.

Only the Ranger and mortar could hit the Destroyer and be able to reasonably do any damage without dying. And then when you get the Destroyer down to 25% or so he starts spawning the Lava Shards or whatever and that one shots the mortar. At the end we were left with only the Ranger doing damage to it.

My issue is that this one part of the dungeon took our group over an hour to do (one of our party left during this part since it was taking way too long and he had RL stuff to take care of.) I would like to know what we were doing wrong. The one other guy we partied with had done this path before and he said “this is how the other groups are doing it.”

A:

There’s three Cryo-Lasers around the room. Put a person on each of them.

Count down – 3, 2, 1, FIRE. Everyone hits F on Fire. Then they immediately begin the jump down the floating red platforms as soon as all 3 beams are visible.

Everyone lands in the middle as the shield goes down, unloads on the boss.

Once the flame shield starts flickering back up, run/jump back up the red platforms to safety.

Protip: The red platforms will flicker red when a lava shard is about to land on them. Move if you’re on a flickering platform.

That’s what we had thought. Thanks for confirming it!

Nah put 3 people on lasers who are not ranged and use them to bring the shield down. Have 2 people with long range shoot him while it is down from the stairs.

@Fluffycalico, that is what we did last night and it took an hour. I would prefer not to sit through that boring fight again.

There is no way for anyone under 1300 or so range to hit him without taking the platforms to the middle. Not sure how much damage your ranged people are doing but it took us an hour with one ranger. Granted we forgot that the engineer could pop his mortar for extra damage in the beginning but like I said, once we hit that 25% the mortar was gone instantly.

Sync your lasers as best you can so that one firing takes the shield down.

If everyone is on their game you should be able to jump into the middle, blow up your entire skill set on him in the 5~10 seconds that he is vulnerable. with 5 people all nuking him as best they can at once it takes about 10% of his life. Repeat once per minute~ 10 minutes fight. As a greatsword guardian I run into melee and jump up and down the platform roughly 10 times to finish the fight. Leap for 1-2k damage, whirlwind for 4k damage, a burn for 2-3k, a consecrate for another 2k damage, 3 or 4 melee hits for another 2-3k damage. That’s any where between 15-20k damage on him in a combo as MELEE.

The only reason that I can think of that your member said “this is how other groups are doing it” is that their jumping skills arent quite good enough to jump in and out consistently without dying. If you’re not that good at doing jumping puzzles, vistas and the like, then you will take half an hour to do this boss because those people wont do any damage to the boss.
